My beautiful cat is missing

Just that, really Sad

She's a house cat and just have got out without me noticing when I let the dogs out, normally not a problem, but I must not have seen her before I shut the door and now she's gone. I'm
Not even sure how long she's been out, and I feel awful.

I've had a wander round the streets, but it got too dark and meant the house was shut up, anyway. I'm now sitting with the back door open and the kitchen light on.

Please tell me she'll be ok and come back, even if you don't believe it Sad

Our indoor cat went missing for 3 days last year. For some reason someone caught her and took her to the local rspca centre even though she was fine. She'd literally been there the whole 3 days.

NoMoreUsernames · 19/01/2018 18:54

My friend just got her cat back after 3 weeks!, it was an indoor cat too. She put posters up all over her local area and someone contacted her. He was a bit thin but otherwise well. I've heard putting their litter tray outside the door can help. Hope you get her back soon Flowers.

mimibunz · 19/01/2018 18:54

She will be fine. Put out posters and call your local shelter. Also let your vet know. Did you mention if she is microchipped? Cats have a great sense of smell and hearing so go out every so often, 15 mins, and call her and shake a bag of treats. Do you live in the city? Country? Call for her in the tone of voice you normally use, not a big shout. Let us know when she returns! Flowers

Also, when she returns you might want to consider getting a leash and spending time with her outside so she can sniff the neighbourhood. This will help her if she escapes again.

MsMims · 19/01/2018 19:04

If she’s a house cat she’s likely to be very close by but scared and hiding. Try to thoroughly check the area nearest to your house under bushes/ shrubs/ between wheelie bins asap.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 19/01/2018 19:05

I'm sure she will come back. Cats are the smartest critters alive! She may find somewhere else cosy in the intsrim, just to make you sweat. But she will return. As surely as Tatiana is a spammy fanny! Fingers crossed

I live in a small town. I keep calling her at the front and back doors and I'll put her litter tray outside now.
She is chipped and I've been online to make sure my details were up to date.
I'll try to find somewhere to make up some posters tomorrow, although I don't really want to leave the house and for her to not be able to get in and think I don't want her anymore.
I really hope nobody has taken her in. She's a bit fat and has beautifully soft fur, so it's obvious she's not a stray, but she's a bit of an attention whore and will go to anyone for a good belly scratch!
Thanks for the reassurance!

She'll come back. Leroy did this... fucked off for 4 hours, came home drenched. God alone knows what he was up to! I sat in the kitchen with the door open too. Fingers crossed for you.

KarmaStar · 19/01/2018 19:15

Hi OP
I hope she is home soon,is she speyed?
Try hanging her bed or an unwashed blanket on the washing line, the scent will help her find her way home.
Try your local cats protection and vets and police station.
Hopefully she will wander in and expect her dinner oblivious of your heartache and worry!
Good luck 🐱

We get quite a few cats in the garden, I'm pretty sure they would get to any food before she had a chance to sniff it. She also only eats dry biscuits weirdo, would they work?
She just sleeps on my bed, so there are no blankets that smell like her. Would the dogs' blankets work in the same way?

Oh im so sorry! What a worry!! I've heard that emptying the contents of your hoover at the back of your garden can help cause it's smells just like the inside of your house!!!

Keep calling her / rattling her food

I home she comes home safe quickly!!! Naughty kitty!!

I only have one set of bedding Blush and it's currently in the tumble dryer.
I've put a dog blanket and one from the sofa, that she's almost definitely slept on since its last wash, on the fence, her litter box is outside with the lid off and a full bowl of food by the back door.
Local emergency vets have her description in case she is brought in.
Unfortunately, she is ridiculously fussy and won't touch anything like tuna or wet cat food. I've tried so many different things and she's just not interested unless it's dry Iams, or the dog biscuits - some dog biscuits are in the bowl outside, just in case!

Really hope he comes back soon. Sounds like you’re doing everything you can tonight.

prettymess · 19/01/2018 20:03

Have you got a local Facebook group for your town? On ours we get a lot of people post about missing cats.

PineappleExpress · 19/01/2018 20:13

I don't really know anyone except my two next door neighbours. One set is asleep and the others have said they'll keep an eye out. We have so many skinny scraggy cats round here, I can't imagine anyone would think she needed taking in.
She's pretty quiet when she cries, because she's a princess who seems to rule this house, and isn't used to crying for much, if anything, so I doubt I'd hear her. I'm staying downstairs all night so I can leave the back door open. It's a bit chilly, but I know I wouldn't sleep anyway.

What a silly kitty, @DancesWithOtters! All the trees are bare, so I had a quick look up and down the street, and I couldn't see her. She's not a particularly talented jumper or climber princess, so I'd be amazed if she ended up in one

I hadn't thought of that, @prettymess. I'll have a look now. Thanks.
And thanks to everyone else for your help FlowersFlowers

She'll be back. She's probably having a little explore, now she's managed to get out. Make sure that you keep nice and warm yourself, if you're going to leave the back door open. Give her IAMS bag a good shake out the back.
