Evening all, this is a new thread all about gorgeous Heidi, following on from the thread started by Gatekeeper.

We answered her thread call to give this tiny kitty a new home and we drove from Devon to Durham and back in 24hours to do so...

Now Heidi is settling well at our place after being looked after perfectly by Gatekeeper, and this thread is all about the new life of a very little and brave cat with the bushiest tale known to catkind!

If anyone can link to the original thread it would be much appreciated :)

@overnightangel thanks lovely. I'm a bit more calm now. Heidi isn't fussed bless her, she's rolling round in the floor yowling as usual with her toys Grin

Yeah we will find a way. PPs and a couple of mates have experienced this, only 1 animal had to be PTS because of it but they were about 16 so there were probably other issues at play. So that's good.

I think the main cost will be getting the actual diagnosis done then after that, hopefully the cost of the medication won't be so bad. Definitely going to take PPs advice on that too.

Poor little love though - you just know someone took her to a vet, found out about the murmur then literally just dumped her on their way home from the surgeryAngry

I just don't get it but my suspicions about why someone had dumped this gorgeous little cat after litter training and socialising her with nothing were confirmed this morning.

It's ok though because we have her now. I still believe she was sent to us for a reason and this must be why. Some weird twist of fate meaning we would do whatever it took to look after her and if that's a cardiologist then so be it.

I'm glad she's with us.

Oh poor little cat, that must have been a horrible shock for you StewPots.

I've no experience of this myself but will keep my fingers crossed that after the initial expense, it isn't too costly for ongoing medication.

StewPots · 13/12/2017 21:48

@Horsemad thank you :) we are going to stay positive. Poor little kitty :( extra cuddles tonight even if she does keep me up for half of it Grin

StewPots, our cat has a heart murmur due to cardiomyopathy. I think it is probably grade 4 but I'm not sure. He has never had any symptoms or problems (yet). I can't remember what investigations he had, but I think it was an X ray. He is on benazacare every day and a low dose aspirin every 3 days. It costs about £20 per month, but our is covered by insurance as he was 6 months when it was found. He is now over 9 and has never got any worse. I know he probably won't have a very long life but he is the happiest, loveliest cat.

StewPots · 13/12/2017 22:35

@poisonedbypen thank you and that matches up with what PPs have said about monthly costs after initial diagnosis.

£20 a month is what I probably spend on sandwiches in Sainsbury's on my way to work sometimes so I shall forgo them and make my own or get DH or DD to when I'm on back to back to back 12 hour shifts! Grin

I’m just glad Heidi is lucky enough to be with such lovely people who will care for her . Great to hear she’s still nashing about and playing as normal, that’s a good sign, I’m sure she’ll take whatever is to come in her stride.

overnightangel · 13/12/2017 23:04

Sorry, “nashing” is a local word that means running about, forget I’m not texting my friends at time!!
Horrendous to think how anyone could dump such a poor creature, luckily she’s had 2 lovely people at opposite end of the country look after her since then,
Please Keep us updated @stupots 🙂 and take care

Gatekeeper · 14/12/2017 13:30

@StewPots Glad to hear she’s still as full of beans as ever!!

Vinorosso74 · 14/12/2017 21:51

Just catching up on Heidi. What a shock but like you say it does seem likely she was dumped when they found out about her heart. People can be heartless. No doubt they went and bought another kitten.....
Anyway, she is loved and being well cared for now which is way more than she had. It seems heart problems are quite common for all these Mumsnet cats.

Thanks all Smileyeah was shocked yesterday but I've decided it doesn't matter, we love this little cat to bits so much we would do anything. I still reckon Harry sent her to us and now I know why, he knew we would help her and love her :) that sounds twee as hell but that's what I'm thinking :)

I also felt really sad and shocked for a few days, but then realised that Fatty was her usual self and we got into a routine with the meds. And life carries on exactly as before. I will just make sure I cherish the time I have her. Be it months or years.

fourpawswhite · 16/12/2017 10:19

I'm usually a dog person but the thread in litter tray can anyone give this sweet girl a home was just lovely. Epic drive from Devon to Durham to give the cat a home. Nomination for kindest award.

fourpawswhite · 16/12/2017 10:20

Blushwrong thread. No idea how I did that!! Shall redo. Sorry.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/12/2017 10:41

^ I think you got the right thread.

We are all crossing fingers for little Heidi. The fact that she isn't overtly poorly is promising I gather...

SteelyPip · 16/12/2017 15:26

Would you consider a fundraising page? I know I'd love to chuck a fiver in. Flowers

overnightangel · 16/12/2017 21:56

@Gatekeeper there would never still be a Heidi if you hadn’t done you’ve no reason to feel guilty , you were the one that gave this amazing little lady a chance of of a new life!!
There were lots of people on the original thread , I second a justgiving.
❤️

Want2beme · 16/12/2017 23:57

SteelyPip I'd like to do that too.

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/12/2017 22:18

I'd be happy to contribute too.

EachandEveryone · 17/12/2017 23:20

Me too

StewPots · 18/12/2017 08:34

Morning all, sorry been a manic few days with work and Xmas parties!

Aww that's very kind of you all but honestly it's fine, we will be ok :) I do love the kindness of MNetters though!

Heidi is fine and dandy, she's been eating chicken again and is currently prowling the top floor no doubt boxing DH in the face to get up for work! Grin
