I don't think anyone's begun a new thread yet?

Hope you don't mind Cozie. Smile Newboy's Fairy God(cat)mothers love hearing about his progress.

Olli has such a loving heart - he wouldn't deny Balls a warm bed and a hot meal on a freezing night. He might deny him you, though.

Lanaorana2 · 01/12/2017 12:13

How goes it in this chilly time of ours? Not that N's noticed. in his LWT :)

This headcold is appalling - day 6 of pyrotechnic symptoms, can barely talk - had to cancel an appt but they refused to take my call because 'This is a Ladies Only clinic, Sir.' :)

Tenderly swaddled Mr C in cashmere at 3am when it was arctic, got bitten. He's gangsta about the chill.

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 17:14

We have a tom cat that lives near us. A couple of us are trying to catch him, but what next? None of the cat rescues will say they will take him in. Local thugs try to set their dogs on him. I was so upset when it started snowing. He was a house pet who was abandoned when his owners moved (before I moved into the area).

Now he's semi feral again. Loves children, but scared and wary of adults. The best promise I've had is to neuter and release him (unless cat rescue place happens to have a free space at the same time).

I can't take him in because he needs to be the only cat (at least at first - he's used to his tom cat fighting ways).

It's so sad Sad

Ollivander84 · 01/12/2017 17:16

Will cats protection trap and neuter? Anyone with stables or farms you know? They could take him as a feral once neutered then

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 17:16

And I don't want him rerelease because he'll just be a target again. He was soaking wet the other week because someone threw water over him. It's too cold for him to be wet.

I've built up trust to get close to him, but he's wary of the trap I borrowed from cp.

Ollivander84 · 01/12/2017 17:17

What area are you in? Vaguely. Someone might be able to recommend something

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 17:19

They said that I would have to trap him (he's wary and they don't have the man power to keep coming out) but have lent me a trap.

Either they or another local rescue will neuter him, but unless they have space at that exact moment in time, they would just rerelease. But he's not a feral cat and he will be returned to be a nuisance and the local idiots notice him and target him. I don't want to have to return him.

Leeds

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2017 18:01

Oh god that's awful.

Neutering turns them into softies. Properly introduced to another cat it could work out.

All the squabbles in our multicat house came from the females, the males were laid back "thanks for the food gotta nap now" types.

Any combination of male/female was ok. Female/female was proper handbags at dawn.

Weedsnseeds1 · 01/12/2017 18:02

If he likes children, does anyone have a cat savvy child who can literally and restrain him?
Then shed set up as outdoor shelter?

Lanaorana2 · 01/12/2017 18:06

Oh dear, that's grim. He needs a home. Heartbreaking about him loving kids. Can you feed him at least?

Lanaorana2 · 01/12/2017 18:07

Sometimes if you offer a donation when the rescue people take him in they will keep him.

NewStartAgainReallyThisTime · 01/12/2017 19:40

Offering a donation is a really good idea. We do put food down (it's how I've built trust), but it's hit and miss if he gets or another cat. My sons can pick him up and you can tell he would be a real softy (with humans). Doing this, we nearly got him into a holder, but we messed up, so he got wary again and as soon as he sees the holder, he runs which was why I got the trap to try a different way.

If I didn't have my cat, I think I could entice him in and he'd never leave again (although I would take him to the vet on the offchance he has a chip and belongs to someone other than the people who left him behind iyswim), but he's a tom and very territorial and she is very, very wary of him.

I am so desperate to find him a home.

cozietoesie · 01/12/2017 20:30

He refused breakfast again today. Maybe all this lying in his LWT has altered his calorific needs and he's self-regulating?

Lanaorana2 · 01/12/2017 21:29

Yes, must be it, it's a massive breakthrough. He must be getting some deep kip in there. Knows you are outside to protect him, nice new house, can finally relax.

Mind you, once a gobbler... erm, perhaps I might mention that Newboy could be on course to stay a delightfully appreciative, experimental and discriminating gourmet for some years, however.

At the risk of sounding indelicate, starting 2018 by seeing his keenness for seeking out nutritional opportunities as a hobby, occupation or pastime could be of assistance :) Possibly:)

How is your cold Cozie?

cozietoesie · 01/12/2017 21:34

I'm still a bit stuffed but recovering gradually.

Interestingly. he ate all the breakfast CH after his tea. (I'd put it back down, CH not getting quite as tired as other foods.) He seems to prefer to eat in the evening nowadays. Go figure..........

Lanaorana2 · 01/12/2017 21:43

That sounds good news too, take it easy.

So he hasn't actually missed a meal? :)

They let you know what they want, menu requirements, sitting times etc changing daily. Hey ho.

BrokeAndBad · 02/12/2017 10:32

Is he just finally now feeling more secure knowing the food will still be there iyswim?

It must be a good sign though, that and the fact he lets himself go into a deep sleep too now

Sorry I normally just lurk away, love reading everyone's updates, NB, MrC, Ollie, Ollies friends and Asbo Blush

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/12/2017 10:58

Asbo does that, ignores breakfast for last nights dried bits.

He may have had a live snack overnight.

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 13:32

Now there's something that hadn't occurred to me. Grin

Ollivander84 · 02/12/2017 13:44

I need to do ollies eye drops but he's sat on my chest which strikes me as slightly risky

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 14:22

At least he's abandoned his NEWT for you. Smile

Ollivander84 · 02/12/2017 14:24

He's back in it Grin

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 14:25

Ah. Grin

cozietoesie · 02/12/2017 14:29

I just gave Newboy two of his Emotion Inducing meaty snacks and he came through to the bedroom, mouthed some imprecation and then went back to his room. About the best I can take out of it is that he wanted MORE.
