Seniorboy had residual flu so became a little snuffly in later life when his immune system wasn't doing so well. Keep an eye out for mucus (eyes, nose) being produced. (Their eyes tend to have some 'sleep' in at the best of times, so you're looking for more than normal production.)

Lanaorana2 · 09/05/2017 23:06

Mr C snores like a drain. Wheezes like a creaky door in the wind, etc. It's middle-age apparently. :)

Obviously the first time he ever sneezed I rang the vet in floods but apparently 2 or 3 times a day sneezing is ok. Same goes for coughing. Mind you, you know Olli best. Droopy eyelid is a sign that all may not be right, either.

Um, I think the loud sniff might be speech, a la Lady Bracknell. Is he a disapproving type?

Ollivander84 · 09/05/2017 23:19

Oh you should have seen the sneezing when he came to me! He sneezed constantly, shook his head, green snot everywhere. Eventually I said to the vet "pretend he's yours. What would you do?"
I suspected a pocket of infection as she did. She scoped him. Then rang me to say "um. Did you know he has a tooth embedded in his nose? Because a) OW and b) poor sod"
Tooth removed, no more snot!

He does often sniff at me and I get sneezed at when he's really cross Grin
Eyes a tiny bit funny as usual but that's residual from the wandering tooth

Oh yes L, MCat's ma main man and keeper! I think it's mainly because he can't open tins of food himself. Little M gone up to the bedroom I share with them for a snooze. Like Ollie, he also makes a "Pffft" huffy noise through his nose when perplexed/displeased, O. Grin

I hope Mr.C. keeping a watchful and caring eye on you L.

Oh Ollivander am very much thinking of you and hope that all goes well. Ollie will be fine. Grumpy, perhaps, but he's a cat. Goes with the territory.
I have to get crazycat in the box by myself for her trip to the vets. I am NOT looking forward to this! Has anyone else got tips for taking them on public transport? I'm not exactly looking forward to it!

Lanaorana2 · 10/05/2017 12:36

Massive good luck Ollivander, hope it doesn't hurt too much afterwards. Ollie will ignore you when you come home out of sheer love :)

Eliza oh GOD :) Right, I've done this - Mr C mewed all the way in the manner of one possessed - I felt like the kidnapper of Madeliene McCann. It'll be fine tho'.:)

  1. Get the basket out now to allow time for adjustment. Check basket clasps actually work. Do not wear dry-clean only clothes.
  2. Newspaper and old jumper that smells of you in bottom of basket. 3. Put pack of dreamies in each coat pocket.
  3. Extra pack in handbag.
  4. Fiver as bribe for bus driver/minicab man.
  5. 20 min before departure, seize beloved pet and drop back legs first into carrier, clasps on, in one easy step.
  6. Repeat as necessary until you are very late and covered in blood.
  7. Receive adoration from strangers on public transport/test your embarrassment threshold to the max when the little love shoves a paw out and slashes a kindly old lady.
  8. Vet
10. Insert tin of gin and tonic into pocket for journey home.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/05/2017 12:47

All the best Ollivander - I hope that it goes well (I note you use 'was' above and talk of a long story - I hope that all is going as planned and you haven't had an emergency). And all the best to Ollie too. He'll be grumpy, but fine.

Lanaorana - you missed

cozietoesie · 10/05/2017 12:48

I recall taking Oneago back home using virtually every form of transport known. He was generally fine - turn up for the books - as long as (and this seemed to be important) I gave him sufficient warning to allow him to primp and proffer his 'best side' for any cameras/fans. Grin

Soubriquet · 10/05/2017 12:49

I think toots has found a nest SadSadSad

There was a tiny naked little chick on my patio this morning. Eyes still closed, guts hanging out so long dead.

Apart from the small hole where it's insides were outside, there was no other injury.

So I'm hoping another bird had the baby and dropped its dinner instead of toots finding a nest.

cozietoesie · 10/05/2017 12:52

Most of the fledgling predation in my gardens has been from big birds - and mainly from magpies. Do you have any of those nearby?

Soubriquet · 10/05/2017 12:56

Have some crows/rooks/ravens

Can't remember which is which and there are a couple of magpies around

It's mostly pigeons, starlings, blackbirds and sparrows here.

It's just the fact this chick was intact and had no real injury bar this little wound where it had come open. Surely if it was the cat I would have found it more mauled or even eaten?

cozietoesie · 10/05/2017 13:02

In my experience, many/most of them die after a cat attack - from shock if nothing else. That sounds like a bird attack though.

Soubriquet · 10/05/2017 13:12

I'll have to keep an eye out

Meanwhile she is loving this warm weather

Can you see her? Grin

After doing a bit of sunbathing and facewashing, the small catbed became a toy!

Thank you all so much Smile Lana especially...
she/we did ok. It's tiring isn't it?
The box was fine (had left it out since she got back in Fri) but she still miaowed and tried to be sick en route to the vet. Who is completely happy and says he as a vet has had the same issue in reverse ie takes DC and DGC to the GP either too much or too little - and I as a 'human vet' have brought her unnecessarily ie if she is eating something then that's absolutely fine and I needn't worry. Relief. Am off this afternoon and she and I are enjoying the sunshine - I'll get a picture of one of the thread's favourite calicos!!!

TheCatOfAthenry · 10/05/2017 14:30

Enjoying some primo catnip...

Ollivander84 · 10/05/2017 15:21

I'm home. Have been shouted at and chirruped and head butted and trailed round after
There's a long story but my disc bulge has increased by 50% and I'm as planned for surgery tomorrow
