SadSad
My dcat have been looked after by friends for some long time because our situation demanded it and came back weighing 6.8 kgs.
He had steady weight loss and was doing so well with starting to play and jump about more and reaching rear end to clean finally without rolling over. All the nasty knots in fur were all gone and he was looking so good and well.

Then he stopped eating drinking or doing anythong really. I booked an appt at vet but the day before taking him in whilst I was out, dc text to say he was eating his usual biscuits yay! So I called in to cancel appt.

Expected it could take some time to recuperate but I didnt see any eating. As they share bowls and no way of separating that i I could see I kept close eye.
I thought at one time dehydrated so syringed water to rehydrate which worked and he was behaving more normally but obvs still revovering. I suspect though that no food eaten and taken back to vets as so worried about him.
He never had any ailments at all and always been a darling and fit as a flea.
What worries me desperately is that he had a strange smell about him that I couldnt place. Like chemicals I noticed it early on and was stupid I think nnot to be suspiciius straight away. I have linked that in my head with this now thinking maybebhe drank from the loo with chemical in it!!!!!!!! Vet kept him for bloods/x-ray/poss op but very soft abdo so not thinking its tumour or blockage. Vet noticed yellowing and I already thought gums looking quite pale. Whats happened and so worried hes gonna die Sad SadSad
Sorry is so long. Didnt wanna drip feed or have anything misinterpreted

Oh, struggling tonight ad now feeling responsible having triggered dcat going into starvation mode althoufh vet saying that scan view of liver not not consistent with HL. Shoild we just bring hime and force feed. How awful woukd that be though? Kivers regenerate so well but just poor dcat suffering. Hope someine is aroubd this time on a saturday!

Oh, Shriek, I've been watching your thread, even though I haven't commented.

You must be going through a terrible time, but from your posts, it doesn't seem as if you did anything to trigger DCat going into starvation mode.

Take the vets' advice on whether you should bring him home and force feed. If he's so unwell that all they can provide is palliative care, I am sure they will let you know, and give you the option of having him home with you during that time.

Love and strength for you and DCat from the Mantra household.

Shriek · 17/12/2016 20:55

Thank you for posting Mantra. I hadnt realised that cats go into starvation mode so quickly and simple change of diet can be all it takes especially when more than onedcat making it difficult to see whos eating what .

Appaeently not uncommon when obese especially. Sad

I do reallyappreciate hearing from you with support

I wish I knew what to say. I can only sympathise - I know the agony of not knowing what is best. You must be guided by your vet - I hope they are as lovely (and good at people, as well as animals) as mine was.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/12/2016 20:59

Oh Shriek, please don't blame yourself. I agree with Mantra (as usual), take your vets' advice on how to proceed, they are in the best place to guide you.

Love and positive thoughts from Harry and I Flowers

How is he today?

Shriek · 18/12/2016 14:37

Dear dear poor precious dcat has parted from us today Flowers

DC has brought body away with us to bury with a past dear soul.

Was so hard of course as dcat was still head-butting for more strokes and purring. I guess best memories not suffering.

Huge blow to DC so very sad.

Wonderful staff for animals and their humans Flowers

Oh no I'm so sorry to read your update. RIP puss Flowers

Shriek · 18/12/2016 18:11

Thank you so much. There's a little dcat shaped hole running chasing and curled up around the place. More especially in our hearts.

This should never have happened poor love.

Anyone with an overweight dcat has to be sooo careful. I even posted on a thread about exactly this. It happens so easily.

Oh poor love and DC xxx

Your wishes are so gratefully received and to have others with me on this moat horrible of roller-coaster journeys xxx

So sorry for your loss Flowers

RubbishMantra · 18/12/2016 18:26

I am sorry. I was so hoping for a turnaround. You gave him the best care, and ensured he didn't suffer.

When the time's right, a rose bush or tree planted in memory of him may be a comfort. I have found it so, with loss.

Shriek · 18/12/2016 18:40

Thank you xx

DC wants to keep a whisker and be able to set it inside something somehow. Any ideas?

Yes the vet said about burying ashes under a plant but its looking more likea burial and not currently in situation to grow plant on top of burial site (dont mean to be misleading here just cannot reveal our circumstances)

Lovely to hear from you all thank you x

Personally I'd tell DC he'll need his whiskers in heaven but if they're adamant then what about in a locket?

Meemolly · 18/12/2016 20:06

So sorry. We lost our cat in similar (kidney) circumstances about a month ago, right down to the head butts and strokes just before she went. I'm so sorry I was rooting for Dcat to pull through.
Sorry for your loss.

alotlikeChristmas16 · 18/12/2016 20:17

Sorry for your loss, i just read the thread, very sad. I'm shocked all this happened when changing the food, I'll be more careful about changing my cats' food I had no idea this could happen.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 18/12/2016 20:31

So sorry to hear that puss did not pull through. We felt the same when we lost our puss to leukaemia - although she'd collapsed, she was still purring and head butting to her last breath. We were devastated.

Take a whisker - you can buy lovely wooden hearts that can be engraved with names, dates etc but they have a clear window inside for some fur or a whisker. Our lovely vet took paw prints for us, trimmed some whiskers and fur too (but she took the time to give us a clip of each different colour so we'd remember all the shades of tabby she was). We had puss cremated, and her ashes sit next to a photo and clay model of her.

Thinking of you.

PineappleExpress · 18/12/2016 22:11

I'm so sorry Shriek Sad

torthecatlady · 18/12/2016 23:20

I'm sorry :( I had everything crossed for your dcat.

Shriek · 19/12/2016 22:48

Clay model of her

How lovely. Where did you get that done ?

Thank you so much everyone xx
