SadSad
My dcat have been looked after by friends for some long time because our situation demanded it and came back weighing 6.8 kgs.
He had steady weight loss and was doing so well with starting to play and jump about more and reaching rear end to clean finally without rolling over. All the nasty knots in fur were all gone and he was looking so good and well.

Then he stopped eating drinking or doing anythong really. I booked an appt at vet but the day before taking him in whilst I was out, dc text to say he was eating his usual biscuits yay! So I called in to cancel appt.

Expected it could take some time to recuperate but I didnt see any eating. As they share bowls and no way of separating that i I could see I kept close eye.
I thought at one time dehydrated so syringed water to rehydrate which worked and he was behaving more normally but obvs still revovering. I suspect though that no food eaten and taken back to vets as so worried about him.
He never had any ailments at all and always been a darling and fit as a flea.
What worries me desperately is that he had a strange smell about him that I couldnt place. Like chemicals I noticed it early on and was stupid I think nnot to be suspiciius straight away. I have linked that in my head with this now thinking maybebhe drank from the loo with chemical in it!!!!!!!! Vet kept him for bloods/x-ray/poss op but very soft abdo so not thinking its tumour or blockage. Vet noticed yellowing and I already thought gums looking quite pale. Whats happened and so worried hes gonna die Sad SadSad
Sorry is so long. Didnt wanna drip feed or have anything misinterpreted

But he's fine and healthy as far as you can see? And he was the one you saw drinking from the toilet?

Remember that your other lad's problems, while worrying for you, may be absolutely nothing to do with anything done by you and yours.

Weedsnseeds1 · 12/12/2016 22:43

See bless doctor cat! Other cats problems are unlikely to be caused by descaler. It's an acid, so worst case scenario there would be chemical burns to mouth or throat, not liver problems. Don't blame yourself. Hope you get better news tomorrow.

Shriek · 13/12/2016 17:30

Other nurse dcat is absolutely fine and in rude health thankfully and yes it was him that drank from loo.

Poorly dcat being reassessed at 24 hrs on iv fluids. Report this morning said bright and just about to be offered food again. So waiting to hear again now whether food being given.

Finding it hard myself to deal with my part in this which has caused him to go into starvation mode. I just am completely ignorant when it comes to obese animals! And working out calories Sad

I doubt that you had much, if anything, to do with it, Shriek. You said yourself that his weight loss had been 'steady'.

However, here is some guidance for anyone reading.

Try this. If you contact the pet food manufacturer they will give you calorie content of your chosen food. You need to weigh accurately. Ask the vet for ideal weight for the cat and get some advice there as well. There is a special qualification for feline friendly vet nurses too. My OH's nice is qualified so can ask her for some advice if that would help?

Weedsnseeds1 · 13/12/2016 18:01

Completely the wrong link, sorry!

Hi all. Spoke to vet earlier and she presenting as a lot happier in herself but only licked food not interested indry food at all. Vets more concerned about keeping fluids going and keeping stable and comfortable.
Yes there was definitely a steady weight loss and concurrently steady increase in activity but I am used to them eating lots of different foods and think in my ingorance of dieting pushed him jist that bit too far by dropping in other food types when in rretrospext think nowbthat I shoikd have kept strictly to the biscuit used previously Sad at least until weight back to normal. poor poor dcat what a horrible time he's had for a long time. Please let him live xxx

I feel for you as when ours was ill I was v worried too. Hoping for some good news tomorrow.
Only my own cat's experience really but as she has IBD she has to stick to a hypoallergenic diet. They weren't too worried about what she was eating at first but wanted to switch only when her appetite was back so offered anything tempting just to get her appetite back.
Please don't blame yourself for any of this. You are most definitely not at fault and you clearly love your cats.

Shriek · 14/12/2016 15:06

At hospital with dcat with scan scheduled depending on what seen could have exploratory op tommoz or not brought round again after and pts

Weedsnseeds1 · 14/12/2016 15:23

Vinorosso74 · 14/12/2016 16:16

Oh no Sad. Everything crossed here.

Shriek · 14/12/2016 17:14

Said they would call again during sedation if scan showed v poor chance and pts being next option. Not jeard anything as yet and really hoping that old adage is fitting (no news...)

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 14/12/2016 17:25

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/12/2016 18:45

I'm keeping everything crossed for him x

TheSilveryPussycat · 14/12/2016 19:02

Me too...

Shriek · 14/12/2016 19:20

Scanned again and nothing awful seen. Happily the sedative given him the munchies so has eaten some wet cat food.

No op tomorrow. Continue with AB's steroids anti-sickness tabs and some vits too, continue iv fluids and pain relief and just hope for more eating an progress. Thank you for thoughts

Vinorosso74 · 14/12/2016 20:55
