SadSad
My dcat have been looked after by friends for some long time because our situation demanded it and came back weighing 6.8 kgs.
He had steady weight loss and was doing so well with starting to play and jump about more and reaching rear end to clean finally without rolling over. All the nasty knots in fur were all gone and he was looking so good and well.

Then he stopped eating drinking or doing anythong really. I booked an appt at vet but the day before taking him in whilst I was out, dc text to say he was eating his usual biscuits yay! So I called in to cancel appt.

Expected it could take some time to recuperate but I didnt see any eating. As they share bowls and no way of separating that i I could see I kept close eye.
I thought at one time dehydrated so syringed water to rehydrate which worked and he was behaving more normally but obvs still revovering. I suspect though that no food eaten and taken back to vets as so worried about him.
He never had any ailments at all and always been a darling and fit as a flea.
What worries me desperately is that he had a strange smell about him that I couldnt place. Like chemicals I noticed it early on and was stupid I think nnot to be suspiciius straight away. I have linked that in my head with this now thinking maybebhe drank from the loo with chemical in it!!!!!!!! Vet kept him for bloods/x-ray/poss op but very soft abdo so not thinking its tumour or blockage. Vet noticed yellowing and I already thought gums looking quite pale. Whats happened and so worried hes gonna die Sad SadSad
Sorry is so long. Didnt wanna drip feed or have anything misinterpreted

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/12/2016 18:09

That's a good sign, fingers crossed x

cozietoesie · 08/12/2016 18:16

Good luck to the lad. Keep us in touch with developments?

Shriek · 08/12/2016 19:57

Had expected update now, and just to say cant thank you all enough for posting here with your support.

The vet is hoping that eating will continue after appetite stimulant worn off. Problem is with liver and gall bladder which steroids and AB's treating cant remember what its called. Something beginning with 'c' .

Lowering of jaundice wasnt confirmed but I can keep giving meds at home! Which i know he'll be so much happier with. Then he'll have to have repeated bloods for reducing jaundice and hope he continues eating.

So pleased he is coming home tomorrow Smile

Oh, so glad he's coming home!

Please don't beat yourself up for him being ill - you're obviously a loving owner. Cake

Shriek · 08/12/2016 20:35

Thank you. Yes I cant wait to be cuddling him again and to hear him purring in my arms!

I am not sure whether I am right in thinking that this doesnt mean out of the woods because that all depends on whether the liver recovers or even if there some kind of gall bladder blockage that would need op.

Day at a time and lots of loving I reckon.

Day at a time and lots of loving sounds good. Smile

Vinorosso74 · 08/12/2016 20:50

Pleased he's doing okay and coming home. Have they done a scan/ultrasound to see if there's any blockage?
So, I'll give you the short version of the problem Vinocat had. She had a stone in her bile duct causing her cholangitis/cholanghepatitis. She had surgery to remove the stone, gallbladder and clean out the bile duct which was distended. She had a condition called triaditis so also had pancreatitis and IBD. As I said yesterday she's still with us now aged 14. Our vets did have to refer us to a specialist to do the surgery who I would recommend (hopefully you won't need this).

Shriek · 08/12/2016 20:58

Thanks cosie Smile

Quite similar experience there then Vino so glad to hear your happy outcome in the end!

Yes abdo scan and xray done and no mention of blockage which is great then as they would have said that then. This condition seems to normally have inderlyin g issue like yours had

Shriek · 08/12/2016 23:15

Hepaticlipidosis is very fitting with symptoms rather than other one but I think things will become much clearer when I have face to face tomorro.

EleanorAbernathy · 09/12/2016 01:19

Great to hear he's coming home! The steroids should stimulate his appetite and he'll hopefully perk up soon! :)

Shriek · 09/12/2016 14:34

He's home!!! Yay!! Cuddling and purring (and thats just me!)

He's wobbly but peed already so thats good. Just anxiously awaitimg interest in food and water or will have to go back in. Been given more appetit stimulants steroids amd AB's for 8 more days plus going bak for further bloods next week. Or before if any concerns.

Please be well brave puddy-tat xx

cozietoesie · 09/12/2016 15:55

Have you got him something special to tempt the appetite? Smile

Shriek · 09/12/2016 16:12

Yesbi surely did. Gathered together lots of favourite wet foods plus the usual dry food that he'd been on. Nothing... until they gave apetite stimulant and then wolfed down dry biscuits. So dry biscuits it is. Feel like I am continually putting food in his path so he changes direction. Buthe just been given a thorough washing by other dcat who takes his nursing duties very seriously! Aw bless!

Shriek · 09/12/2016 18:26

O
He's eating!!
Phew phew phew!!!
Oh gawd lounge is covered in dishes of water and dry food as aparently turned nose up at everything wet that normally are his favourites @ vets

But in preparing eve's for for others (this evenings menu is basically tripeall round) suddenly loudly shouting cat appears round corner and will not pipe down despite all offers of different dry food or further water. Making very clear signs for tripe so rushed through prepping a portion for shouty dcat and he hoovering it up (hoping not sick now!!)

Again, phew

OP posts:
Shriek · 09/12/2016 18:31

Other, also very greedy, dcat normally first for food has hung back til his patient had his fill and now hoovering up a delightful selection of offering - cat buffet!
