Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Can you keep them in at night?

anoldiebutagoody · 11/08/2016 22:25

Only Bobby goes out at night because Teddy doesn't use the catflap yet.
If Teddy follows him out I will lock it at night so they'll both have to stay in - Bobby won't like it but he can usually be distracted. The only problem we'll have is them playing all night and keeping us awakeSmile

If you're in the UK, we're coming into Autumn soon so - hopefully - a bit of rain and bluster plus a good fire/radiator etc inside will help them both to remember the attractions of inside the house. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 12/08/2016 13:09

Yes we're in Wales cozie so get our fair share of rain😂.
Teddy's a bit quiet today, has been out to have a look around but didn't stay long as it's overcast and breezy today, so is curled up on the living room carpet amongst all his toys.
He's eaten 2.5 bowls of food since he got up so that side of things is OK, he just has the antacids from today onwards so we'll see how that goes. Lisa said she's on duty today and tomorrow so to ring if he wasn't making progress and to update her on Monday.

As I mentioned - the attractions of inside the house. Cats are eminently sensible. Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 13/08/2016 10:09

Well Teddy's still eating and no sickness so it looks like the antacids are doing the job. He ate another 2.5 bowls of food yesterday plus I went out to lunch and saves them some fish .
He was meowing for food this morning and ate his usual bowlful, now he's out with Bobby looking for something to stalk. The sun is coming out or at least trying to so there may be some flying things around soon😀.
I wonder if giving him the antacid each day ongoing would be enough to sort out the tummy problems until his immune system gets up to speed if it ever does. I suppose it depends on whether his temperature rise was because of the inflammation from the acid or some other reason I must ask Lisa on Monday.
He really is a clever kitten, I went out for lunch yesterday and once I'd changed my clothes ready to go I came into the living room to tell him I was going out and bent down to stroke him and he ran away from me thinking I was taking him to the vet. He'd been fine all morning letting me pick him up and stroke him but he must have realised I'd changed ready to go out - I didn't think they noticed things like that.

Well done Teddy. All that yummy food. Smile

Oh - and they can notice clothing etc. I'm more used to having my sartorial choices judged by a dog (sheepdogs notice everything) but cats do as well if they're bright 'uns and care enough about you. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/08/2016 13:04

That's great news! Very pleased to hear he's been munching his food again. And nice to hear that the sun came out and he and Bobby got to chase some flying things once more. Those poor butterflies!

Wee, too, saw some sun this morning. Blue sky and everything! I even went out mid-cuppa to let the hens out as they've had such a miserable week I felt guilty that they were still cooped up. Needless to say it didn't last, though it's still dry-ish.

Not in the least bit surprised that Teddy noticed your change of clothes, he's a clever lad! He was no doubt most relieved that you left without him. Hope the boys appreciated the fish you brought them home.

Tilly discovered a great way to get me out of bed: chase an imaginary mouse around the bedroom! At least, I'm pretty sure it was imaginary since there's no sign of a real one, dead or alive, anywhere. She then thought she needed to kill her catnip one again.

Hope the lads are still enjoying the day, and still munching! Happy days!!!

cozietoesie · 13/08/2016 13:23

Ha! ....imaginary mouse....

Do you live in an older house? Grin

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/08/2016 21:57

Not that old, no, but I suppose that, what with the number of rodents who have been slaughtered here, a ghost or two isn't out the question...

Prefer being woken up to Tilly chasing an imaginary /ghostly mouse than a real one. I don't really mind mice dead or alive, but not very first thing in the morning!!!!

cozietoesie · 13/08/2016 23:52

I didn't think I had any here when I first moved in - until I smelled the smell and discovered a dead one underneath a kist in the hall where, presumably, it had fled to escape from The Lodger. And then there were the escapades when The Lodger last visited.......

I'd assume you probably have them, frankly. (If it had been an older house, I'd have said it was a dead cert.)

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/08/2016 09:33

I honestly doubt there are any mice living in the house of their own accord. I don't think they're that stupid!

We do get mice in the house, brought in by You Know Who! And I assumed that's what she'd done on Saturday (since I'd got up earlier to open the window for her) but no, 'twas just an imaginary one. But it got me out of bed to provide breakfast!

anoldiebutagoody · 15/08/2016 10:51

Glad we don't have many mice around here we seem to have lots of shrews which our other boys used to catch. These two are still preoccupied with all things flying at the moment though the birds seem to have vacated their nests in our trees -so cats are visiting next door's garden instead, good job they like cats😃.
Teddy's still eating well, no sickness and has plenty of energy so the antacids seem to be working, haven't seen any obvious signs of the testosterone surge, maybe staying out a little longer in the day.
Lovely and sunny here today, a bit windy but that didn't put Teddy off he was shouting to go out this morning, almost couldn't spare the time to eat but his stomach won in the end 😀

I hope it continues for him, he deserves a rest from it all now.

Your vets worked really hard for him.

anoldiebutagoody · 17/08/2016 09:50

Teddy's still doing well, eating, active and no sickness☺
Spoke to vet yesterday as she wanted an update, she was happy with his recovery. I asked about the possibility of just using the antacids ongoing , she said that she hasn't used antacids long term on any cats as they are usually prescribed for elderly cats with kidney problems so the time is limited. Saying that she's not averse to using them as they have less side effects than stronger meds.
However no meds are better -so we are going to give the antacids for another 5 days then stop them to see how he is. If he starts to be sick again or off colour I'll check his temperature and we'll start up the antacids again .
Bless him he 's trying so hard to be a healthy kitten ❤

cozietoesie · 17/08/2016 10:15

It's a real difficult one. She may not have trialled the long term use - and you would really want his own system to be dealing with things - but then his system has a lot on its plate at the moment so maybe it needs more help than usual.

He's doing well so far. Much better than you might have thought a few months back, eh?

anoldiebutagoody · 17/08/2016 12:29

Absolutely cozie, we'll play it by ear, for a little kitten he has a lot of fight, you can almost see how much he wants to live a long life, so whatever support he needs I'll give him until he gives up the fight.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 17/08/2016 12:40

He's not showing any signs of that at the moment? If it really is You Know What, I think he's doing wonderfully well. Remember, it would be very very serious if it was that, but it's not a certain death sentence. The vet is certainly behind him as well. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/08/2016 15:53

Not even months back - it was only three weeks ago that you were upset about his quality of life, and now look at him. The local flying things don't stand a chance! I feel for him having to decide on munching or going out - can't you give him a takeaway so he can eat whilst hunting???

We have plenty of mice, shrews, voles and rats, though HRH isn't so keen on the last. We also have lots of birds who come down to eat the hen food too, so she gets lots of variety. And we get lots of variety in the bits we get to clean up from the carpet. Aren't we lucky!

So pleased to hear Teddy's doing so well. He definitely does want to fight. I hope the good weather continues so he can do lots of running outside (though probably best to warn the local flying things!).

anoldiebutagoody · 17/08/2016 21:59

Yes Time it's amazing what 3 weeks can do, that's what I mean by him bouncing back.
As for food versus outside they've already dined alfresco but I draw the line on service in my nightie, don't want to traumatise the neighbours Grin
And I'm not sure we have any takeaways open in the day around here.
They all seem to like to give us the challenge of identifying remains, my previous boys never ate whole (whatever it was) they always left entrails, birds foot/claw or tail of their last meal-think they called it sharing !
I think Teddy might become a hunter, they are both looking at a new ladybird toy and even though he's the smallest it's Teddy who's patting it and trying to eat it😀

How's the lad this weekend?

anoldiebutagoody · 22/08/2016 12:07

Hi cozie
He's been really good, eating well and lots of energy when it's dry out - he really doesn't like miserable weather and tends to sleep a lot more, I think he's bored as Bobby's asleep because he's been out during the night.
I haven't noticed any significant difference because of the implant, which is supposed to cause a surge in testosterone for up to a month before tailing off to nothing.
He had his last antacid on Saturday and was fine yesterday, no sickness this morning and eating fine. We'll just have to see how the rest of the week goes, Lisa said to monitor his temperature if he shows any adverse signs, restart the antacids / give him Metacam and give her a ring.
I'm keeping everything crossed☺

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 22/08/2016 13:58

Good signs then. Smile

Has he shown any inclination to roam?

anoldiebutagoody · 22/08/2016 16:46

He does love to be outside but only seems to go into next door so far, but of course he doesn't go out at night yet. I won't be showing him how the catflap works for another 3 weeks, I'm just hoping he doesn't work it out by following Bobby out one night. I locked him out by mistake yesterday in the rain and only realised when hubby saw a vey wet Teddy looking in the French doors. I dried him off and it hasn't put him off going out in the rain as he's just come back in and demanded more food. He's now tearing around like a maniac between the kitchen, living room and hall 😀 .

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 22/08/2016 19:07

I'd see if you can give him a curfew permanently, I think. If it is You Know What, even if he beats it, he's likely going to have a slightly suspect immune system for a good long time.

Well done him so far, though. Smile
