Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Yes if I can a curfew is a good idea but I'd feel bad having to stop Bobby going out too, because he adores him and will definitely follow him once he gets the knack of the catflap.
It's sleep time now after all the running around Smile.

I meant to ask - how's Bobby doing? ( I seem to recall that he was a bit snuffly, recently.)

anoldiebutagoody · 22/08/2016 21:53

He's fine, his sneezing cleared up pretty quickly.
He's a big cat now around 6kg and solid muscle. I'm so glad he's such a softy with humans and will let you do anything or I'd be in big trouble Smile.
He really is a lovely boy, purrs at the drop of a hat, likes to sit on you (regardless of the fact you have a laptop on your lap) and lets Teddy snuggle up with him, even though they've only been together since they came to us. Teddy was in the house at the rescue but Bobby was in one of the pens so they'd never met.

Awwww! That is such a sweet picture of your two handsome boys! S sleeeeeeepy! You really shouldn't make them run around all day!!! Wink

Glad to hear they're both doing so well, that's really good to hear. How's Teddy's weight these days?

Love the ladybird toy. I'm hoping Tilly doesn't take up the boys' habit of hunting all flying things, as we now have a beehive at the bottom of the garden and I don't want to know the consequences of cat v bee - I doubt it would be pretty! I'm sure she's been out more since we got them, and I'm not sure she really believes they could hurt her. Only time will tell.

Didn't realise you got the two of them together - how old is Bobby? It's so lovely seeing them together, I know you've said before how Teddy ignores you if Bobby is around - heartbreaking but lovely at the same time!

Hope they have a good day today. I left Tilly outside, but I suspect it's going to pour again today so she'll be moaning about that this evening. Luckily for me DP will be home long before me, so he can listen to her complaints!

Hi Time.
Yes we lost our last "old boy" last year so in January we were looking in the rescue centres for 2 kittens. I called the Cats Action Trust and they only had 2 young kittens a grey 8weeks) a tabby (6weeks) but lots between 6 and 12 months. So we said we'd go to see the little ones, when we got there they asked if we'd like to have a tour to see all the cats before week g the littles -of course we said yes!
When we went into the main unit there were 5 or 6 under 12months but Bobby just loves people and jumped up to say hello straight away, he was lying on top of one of the cat trees and the other cats were walking all over him but he just stayed there getting strokes from my hubby. After we had seen Teddy (who is mine) husband wanted Bobby, so we never saw the little Tabby 😀 So Bobby was 10 months when we had him in January and Teddy was 2 months - they are 18 months and 10 months now.
Teddy lost a bit of weight when he was sick so went down to 3 kilos he seems to have put that back on but I've not weighed him recently. Don't think he's going to very big unless we get to the bottom of this illness as he's constantly fighting something so doesn't thrive.
Hope Tilly gets bored with the bees, the first day Teddy went out he caught a bee who promptly stung him in his mouth -the ended up looking like a hamster on one side of his face😂 it didn't stop him chasing them but he's not been stung since.
It's been a lovely day today sunshine nonstop so Teddy's been having a grand time and is now stretched out on my bed fast asleep - 3 days now with no meds and all OK.
Hope the weather brightens up for you and Tilly and she can enjoy the bees 😘

Well it seems as though Tilly took the story about Teddy and the bee to heart: she spent the entire time DP and I were out checking the hive yesterday moaning at us to stop being so stupid and leave them alone! She has a particular tone she uses with us when she thinks we're being dangerously naughty kittens (when we're in the burn, or too close to fire) and that's what she emitted last night. I fear we'll get this treatment every time we go to the hive. And she'll be moaning that we never learn. Hey ho!

Hope all's well with the boys. Is Teddy still of the medicine? Hope they're both still enjoying the weather and chasing whatever they find outside. Our weather's been nice the last couple of days, but it won't last longer that making us feel that we're having an Indian summer, and then the rain will return. I can guarantee it!

Love the story about how you got the boys. Unfortunately Tilly wasn't a rescue. The day after my last cat died DP asked if I wanted a cat here, then, when I said yes, asked why I'd not mentioned getting a cat sooner (as my last one had lived with my mother, many, many miles away). I said I couldn't have done that, as it would have seemed like I was replacing Ellie whilst she was still alive; a betrayal. (She was definitely my cat, but I wouldn't have moved her up as it would have been cruel to both her and my mother.)

It took a good few months to find a kitten. A friend who works for the CPL said they were getting some kittens over from Lewis, but they never materialised. And I heard about another kitten, but she had been taken by the time I rang. It was when I was at the vets with my rabbit that I say an advert selling kittens, so I rang on the spot and we went the next day to get her. There were two, Tilly and her rather shy brother. I'd probably have gone for him, but DP thought we should get the one with a more outward personality so we got Tilly (and tbf the brother ended up staying with his parents, which was probably better for him).

She moaned the whole journey home. I was worried I couldn't put her in a quiet room by herself (only feasible room was where the rabbit lived, and I didn't want to upset her more than I had to). Shouldn't have worried. She jumped up and inspected one sofa, then jumped on the other, curled up and went to sleep. She was home! Friend came round 15 mins later and was convinced I'd had Tilly days, not minutes. I slept on the sofa that night with her, (I say "slept" - she spent the night alternating between leaping around the room and onto me for a cuddle and a purr, not much sleeping happened!!!) but I probably didn't have to. She settled in so quickly, and has ruled the roost ever since!!!

anoldiebutagoody · 25/08/2016 17:53

Obviously it was meant that Tilly made her home with you, and you to become her slaves. I can just imagine if Tilly was human she'd be rolling her eyes every time you are at the hive ☺but at least she's not trying to catch the bees.
We've had dry warm weather today but c!ouch and it's just started raining so they are both in for dinner.
Teddy's still off the antacids and eating well (when he can spare the time and there's nothing more interesting happening) no vomiting so far.
I hadn't noticed any difference in his behaviour with the implant(supposed to get a surge of testosterone) but he's definitely getting braver and more curious. Yesterday he was up on the conservatory roof but today he went all out and was on the top of the main roof, good job we live in a bungalow,!
He was quite happy looking over the the peak of the roof and examining the top of the boiler flue.
Bless him Bobby was on the garage roof watching him like an anxious parent and I was in the garden having heart failure😀, needless to say Teddy came back down when he was ready as though it was nothing .
So whilst he's not roaming further in distance it looks like the testosterone may be making him roam vertically.

I'd be in bits if ours did that.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/08/2016 21:17

You did make me laugh, yesterday, with the latest exploits of Teddy! I could see you all out there: you, panicking, but not wanting to alarm Teddy; Bonby wondering what his brother was getting up to this time, and hoping you didn't blame him for not taking better care of him, and the boy himself having a whale of a time and wondering what all the stress was about! He's no doubt hoping the birds fly into his mouth up there!

Tilly can't get onto the roof of the house, but she does climb the sheds and polytunnels, adding a free combi ventilation and hydration to system to the latter by use of her claws! It's usually ok, but I do stress in the winter when they're covered with snow and ice!

Lovely photo of the entrepid explorer. Neighbour's will be wondering at your new weather-vane!

anoldiebutagoody · 26/08/2016 22:18

As you can tell he seems to be feeling pretty good at the moment.
You just about summed up yesterday afternoon, Time 😀 it wasn't quite as bad today until 2 magpies decided to take up residence on our TV aerial and taunt him.
He came running across the roof chattering at them, I expected him to try to get up the pole, but when they didn't fly away he decided that retreat was the beter part of valour (as there were two of them) so he came back down.

Oldie - read the post you wrote on the 27th July. Exactly one month ago. Would the you who wrote that ever have believed you'd be having heart-in-mouth moments only four weeks later caused by Teddy climbing his Everest? You can't say now you aren't giving him a good life!!!!!

Bet you were, at the very least, a wee bit proud of his climbing exploits, even if you rather he hadn't discovered his head for heights! I'm looking forward to the photos of your Christmas tree, I suspect there may be one or two additional decorations!

anoldiebutagoody · 29/08/2016 22:35

Little so and so had me concerned again today. It's been a lovely day today, sunny and warm and as usual Teddy loved it out in the garden
He had breakfast then some more food at 10am, then didn't see him until 2.30 for "lunch", after that he was in our garden for a while then next door so normal behaviour. After about 3. he wasn't around, at 5pm I called him, tried rattling the treats tin and using Bobby's bell both usually get some response, but nothing.
He casually walked in just after 9pm shouting for food, so I think I can safely say that the testosterone has kicked in and he now likes to "wander" 😔 but at least he found his way home in the dark, and we are in a relatively quiet area.
He's now pacing around looking for an opportunity to go out again, but we're all locked up - I have a feeling it won't be long before he follows Bobby out through the cat flap.
He has just this minute fallen asleep in his favourite paper bag after playing☺.

How's he been this last week? Kept thinking I'd checked in recently, but obviously not. Sorry! Have been thinking about him.

Any more late night stop-outs? They do like to keep us worried, don't they? Though tbf 9 is rather early. It's when Tilly stays out til 3 or 4 in the morning that stresses me. I really don't sleep properly til she comes in (and luckily she tends to announce her arrival, but then again I always say hi to her when I get in so that's fair. And it does mean I can go and close the window, and have a few hours deep sleep!) Luckily this only happens a few times a year, generally high summer when there's no real darkness, but it does worry me. Not only because we're on a main road (there's a garden and parking in between, but it's a 60 mph road so dangerous) but there are also predators even bigger and more ferocious than her nearby (otters and mink). Not that she's worried by any of that, but I am!

How Teddy's stomach doing? Still off the medication? And how's Bobby? Hope he's managing not to go wandering too!

x

Oh well I guess I knew it wouldn't last - 14 days without any meds but he was sick this morning and now he does want to eat, exactly the same as before.
Just our luck that Lisa is on holiday this week, so I'm waiting for another vet to phone me back.
Hoping I can pick up an antiemetic and more antacids for him rather than stress him with a visit, I can monitor his temp and give a little Metacam if needed until Lisa is back.
In himself he's fine, running about in and out to the garden and playing with Bobby, so I'm pretty sure his temperature is OK at the moment. He has this sad look about him when he's got a high temp and not feeling well.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 05/09/2016 10:40

He's had 14 days of good health and building up his system.

And having fun. Smile

I'm disappointed but not taken aback by the news. Also - remember that even if he's back to normal, he's going to likely have the odd sick/be off his food. See how it goes for a few days. It may just be a blip.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/09/2016 10:57

Whoops - I shouldn't have asked. Sorry!!!!!

As Cozie says, though, he's had 14 days of wellness and that has to be a good sign. Plus if he has no temperature and is still looking happy (and causing mischief) he's not doing too badly. Any more weather-vane impressions recently?

Random thought - are you sure he's been sick because of the usual problems and not for any other reason? T's sick fairly often and I've given up worrying - she's fine in herself and the reason's usually obvious (hairball, dead mouse, grass). Just thought I'd throw that out there as I'm sure you just assume it's the usual (as I would too) and there's a chance it's not.

Anyway, sorry to hear he's under the weather but glad to hear he's still enjoying himself. x

anoldiebutagoody · 05/09/2016 11:02

Yes he's had 24 days if we count the days he was on antacids when he was fine.
He's just had half a bowl of food ☺and I've given him an antacid as this was what Lisa recommended to see if we can control the acid straight away rather than wait until he has the high temperature.
I'll keep a close eye on him and see what the vet says later.

OP posts:
TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/09/2016 11:05

Oh, it's obviously BECAUSE Lisa's away that he's done this. You do know this, right?

I mean, this is causing you maximum stress with minimal input from him. Which means you're on high alert, and more likely to pander to his every whim, whilst he's running around having fun with Bobby!!!!!!

Well done, Teddy, for eating breakfast! Am most impressed!!!

anoldiebutagoody · 05/09/2016 11:16

Hi Time, I think we were posting at the same time😃
In himself he's fine, even though it's foggy and damp here he's out looking for something to chase. This is how it usually starts but I get what you're saying I could be assuming it's the same thing, Lisa and I discussed this and as the antacids won't do him any harm she felt it was better to give them to him as a possible preventative measure.
At least he's had something to eat today, so maybe the sickness feeling isn't too bad and the antacid might help.
It's weird that over the last 3 days his appetite has soared, almost as though he was building himself up (shouldn't be worms as he was wormed on 28th Aug) he was getting through 1.5 chicken breasts an 3 or 4 pouches of food so at least he has that in reserve if his appetite wanes.

OP posts:
anoldiebutagoody · 05/09/2016 19:51

Just a quick update - Spoke to vet a little while ago, explained the ongoing treatment/situation and he's agreed to try the anti emetic and antacids until Lisa comes back(she's off for 10 days :-0 ) or any adverse change in Teddy.
They don't normally use tablet form anti emetics so he's had to order them and they'll be in on Wed, it's just antacids til then.
Teddy's had some more chicken wetted with water and some Purina sensitive pouch food so still eating at the moment. To his disgust I took his temperature this afternoon and it's 39 so that's normal, however normal for Teddy seems to be mid 38s so it is a tad high for him I'll keep an eye on it.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 05/09/2016 20:15

He's a growing boy and has had the implant. I know that you'll keep a close eye on him but the temperature may not be a problem these days.

anoldiebutagoody · 05/09/2016 22:51

Thanks cozie , fingers crossed the rise in temperature is due to the implant/growing up and this is his new "normal"
I think the antacids are helping, he's had a bit more food this evening and is currently trying to cuddle up to Bobby on the chair next to me.
He can't have any more antacids until the morning so we'll have to see how it goes overnight, hopefully the existing one will still be active.

OP posts:
anoldiebutagoody · 06/09/2016 22:45

Wasn't sick this morning but no interest in food at all no matter what I tried him with. Well that's not really correct, he is interested only to sniff it and turn away.
Temp slightly up on yesterday, so when he ate a little raw mince I gave him a half dose of Metacam to try to stop it going higher and hey presto he's eating again, about 3/4 of a bowl of chicken at 6 pm and another full bowl just now at 10.30.
Picking up the antiemetic tomorrow and some more antacids to tied us over until Lisa is back.
