Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Well he hasn't been sick again but still not eating enough, just a couple of mouthfuls for breakfast and lunch - although he has just had half a small dish of chicken .
I took his temperature earlier and it's normal (37.9) so I think it's probably irritation in his stomach. I'll see what he's like tomorrow and if he's still not eating I'll ring the vet maybe he can have some more antacids .
He's been in the garden all afternoon as usual so isn't moping around like he does when he has a temperature.
We'll just see how he is tomorrow -maybe this is how it will be going forward and he'll have some days when he's off his food.

What's the weather been like with you?

anoldiebutagoody · 09/08/2016 21:11

Hi cozie It's been sunny all day. Clouded over at about 6pm and a bit cooler now so they are both cuddled up on hubby's fluffy dressing gown (well it's not his any more I had to buy him another one as Teddy'd taken a liking to it Smile) on the bed.
Forecast is rain tomorrow so Teddy'll not want to go out so much as there won't be anything flying about to chase.

I'd put the electric blanket on then. He's still a bit poorly after all - and he can choose not to use it if he doesn't like it. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 09/08/2016 22:19

He's asleep in front of the TV at the moment. after trying to help with my paperwork, but I'll put it on for him overnight and tomorrow if its rainy/chilly Smile

What a handsome chap he is. Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/08/2016 22:34

He certainly looks very comfortable up there! Such a handsome lad! He'll need lots of rest after doing all the paperwork for you!

Has it been very hot today? I know on Friday Tilly ate nothing but a mouse til 16:00. I was at home all day and wasn't pestered for food til then. Think it was a combination of being out lots and being hot (not that that lasted - we had storms over the weekend!)

Glad the Thrive treats are helping! Tilly recommends the whitefish ones now (though they smell horrible to humans!).

Hope Teddy gets his appetite back tomorrow. How's Bobby doing?

cozietoesie · 09/08/2016 22:50

....ate nothing but a mouse....

Oh My. Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 09/08/2016 22:50

Hi Time
Bobby's fine he's asleep on the bed at the moment, he'll be up shortly and off out after supper Smile.
It's been sunny here and breezy, warm but not really hot because of the wind, hopefully Teddy will eat a bit more tomorrow - I might try him with some fish I have in the freezer now Tilly's reminded me and fingers crossed he won't be too sick in the morning.
He did eat some of Bobby's dry food after he was sick at 3am which is available all the time.

What can I say? She's a fiercesome huntress! And tbf the reason DP was happy with me getting a cat was to keep the local rodent population down and his plants safe.

Strangely, the eating of mice and other wild things doesn't usually fill her tummy, she views them as more of a hors d'oevres...

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/08/2016 23:10

Glad to hear Bobby's ok. Hope he enjoys his midnight wanderings.

Paws crossed Teddy eats something more tomorrow. But you were right, earlier, he will know there's something afoot for Sat...

cozietoesie · 09/08/2016 23:20

A real mouser is an awesome sight, indeed. Such concentration.

Even Seniorboy has a few notches on his belt - from his youngest days - although, be warned, he would nowadays barely twitch a whisker if a mouse marching band went past in full regalia. Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 10/08/2016 12:46

Teddy's still not eating and it's the vet's day off back tomorrow. He has literally turned his nose up at everything I've tried chicken, fish, wet food, dry food, Applaws tinned chicken breast he won't even eat the Thrive treats today.
Still wants to play and run around outside though the rain is cramping his style on that bit.
Anyway as vet isn't there until tomorrow I have just given his nibs some of the Royal Canin Convalescence food by syringe. He was not impressed but at least he has something in his tummy now and a little liquid too, I'll give him another lot later on if he still won't eat.
He's going to the loo OK but very reduced amounts because his intake is so much less - if he hadn't gone this morning I would have taken him in to see one of the other vets in case it was something else.
He's asleep on the living room windowsill at the moment even though there' a lovely warm bed for him Confused I even put the electric blanket on.

I've found that a good trick is to lie on the bed yourself with a book/mag or a movie on if you have a suitable device. You often find that you'll quickly have a 'companion' stretched out alongside you.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 10/08/2016 22:01

How's he feeling this evening?

anoldiebutagoody · 11/08/2016 10:33

Hi Time.
He didn't eat any dinner or supper yesterday but I did manage to get some more of the convalescent food down him about 7pm.
I was sitting on one of our recliner chair last night and he came to sit between my legs, something he hasn't done since he first came here- it's almost as though he knows I'm trying to help him, bless him.
He was sick again this morning which I expected and not interested in food. He's a bit quieter, he did go out to have a look round but I think his energy reserves are low .
I have a call in to the vet so just waiting for her to ring me back. She is pulling out all the stops for him as when I spoke to the receptionist this morning I mentioned that he was coming in on Saturday morning to me neutered and she said " he won't be getting neutered on Saturday morning they don't do that on a Saturday, it must be next week" so I told her that Lisa (vet) had suggested Saturday herself as it's a special case and she then saw it in the diary Smile.
I think Lisa may want to see him today so will update later.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 11/08/2016 10:59

Poor baby! I'd take the going out for a nosy as a good sign, though - means he wants to be doing more than just lying down feeling miserable for himself, even if he doesn't really have the energy for it.

Hope Lisa has some good ideas, and he's still ok for the operation tomorrow. Tell him from me he needs to get some food in his belly!

Hope Bobby's doing ok too. x

cozietoesie · 11/08/2016 13:04

It's very difficult for you - even though you knew this was likely to be a long haul. Every thing he does will have your antenna flapping even though, with an 'ordinary' cat, you'd likely be saying to yourself, 'Oh he's not hungry today' or 'He's having a quiet day' etc etc. I'd be guided by the vet on the clinical aspects and try to keep your spirits up otherwise.

Saturday will be big for you but I think the vet is still minded to proceed? At least it will all be over by the end of that day and you can focus on him and his future life. Looking back at some of your previous posts, I bet you didn't always think he'd make it this far?

cozietoesie · 11/08/2016 13:05

antennae

anoldiebutagoody · 11/08/2016 18:59

We're just back from the vet, she squeezed us in to her last appointment.
He has lost weight 3kg now instead of 3.3kg but 2 days with little to no food would probably do that.
As you say cozie this is probably going to be his norm until he can fight off whatever it is and Lisa confirmed that, if it wasn't for the high Coronavirus titre she'd give him a longish course of steroids but if we did that it would probably boost the Coronavirus too and trigger the FIP - so that's out. Anyway his temperature was up to 39.7 so she gave him Metacam, anti sickness & antacid by injection.
I did some research on the implant and had a chat with Lisa about it
, everything I read in relation to cats said there were no side effects apart from a number of males being infertile once the implant stopped working and she agreed that she wasn't aware of any side effects and it wouldn't have any adverse effect on the Coronavirus. As it would give us 12 -15 months to build him up, after chatting with her we decided that it was less stressful than the neutering so she did the implant too. She looked at his gums/teeth and reckons the two top teeth will fall out as one of the two bottom ones already has and where it has gone the gum is getting better so the sooner that happens the better.
He was a very brave boy and only hissed a bit when she did the implant (with a bl**dy big needle ) but hissed and snarled ears back when she gave him the other mixed injection. She was really upset about his reaction and had to have a cuddle before we came home, even put him up on the windowsill to have a look out because she remembered he liked the windowsill last time he was there.
Since we've been home he's had a dish of chicken, a drink of water and is currently deciding whether to go out or have some more food☺
As he was so good following the last course of ABs I suggested I keep a diary of how he is and what meds he's on to see what helps him most. She did say that he could have up to a 6week course of Ronaxan and if he had to have it more regularly she'd rather that than Metacam. So Teddy's now doing a diary, maybe he should have a blog 😂

OP posts:
TimeIhadaNameChange · 11/08/2016 19:45

Of COURSE Teddy should have his own blog. What a brilliant idea! I know someone who will follow it (if she can fit it into her busy schedule of eating, snoozing, hunting, climbing trees and playing with her new catnip mouse! Smile

Sorry to hear he wasn't too thrilled with Lisa attention's today, but he wasn't too badly behaved (compared to HRH's scratching our vet's face!). It sounds like Lisa (and you) have a good plan in place.

Hope his teeth fall out soon and his gums get better quickly. And that all the injections kick in and do what they're meant to be doing.

Don't forget to post the blog address!!!!!

cozietoesie · 11/08/2016 20:28

It sounds as if the vet has become rather attached to him? Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 11/08/2016 20:28

He's nearly back to his cheeky self, he's just having some more chicken after his nap on the windowsill Smile.
Sounds funny saying hope his teeth fall out soon but I do too.
Weather's supposed to be nice over the weekend so hopefully he'll be back to chasing flying things then.
Hope it's nice with you so Tilly can continue keeping the rodent population in check.

anoldiebutagoody · 11/08/2016 20:53

Hi cozie

Yes think she has a soft spot for him, she calls him handsome and lovely boy - last time we were there he was sat in the window and she asked to take a photo of him to go on there website as we were in one of their new "cat friendly" rooms Smile.
Just have a 4/5 weeks with his hormones coursing - implant sometimes causes a rush of testosterone before it gradually reduces over a few months, really looking forward to it Grin

OP posts:
TimeIhadaNameChange · 11/08/2016 21:00

Glad to hear he's nearly back to normal. Think he knew what you had planned for Sat and was trying to avoid it! Good luck with the hormone surge. Let's hope it doesn't mean he goes and makes a nuisance of himself with the ladies!

Weather here has been awful this week. At least the weekend's storms have stopped, but we've been left with heavy, persistent rain. Not the best for rodent hunting, it has to be said. But hopefully it will clear up for the weekend and I won't be moaned at constantly.

Love to the boys, x
