Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Don't know the forecast said the temp overnight would drop so it could be chilly.

It will only be end July though - although, I suppose, he has been poorly.

September, you'd probably be justified. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 01/08/2016 12:17

Well and truly raining here today Sad although they did manage to go out for 20 minutes or so first thing, no fire on yet cozie as it isn't cold enough not sure about later though as the temperature is definitely dropping.
Teddy has already miaowed at me because it has started raining and he wanted to go out Confused told him I wasn't stopping him going out.
They've had a little play then trotted off for a snooze, he does love a windowsill. Both up now as it's getting towards lunchtime - Teddy is bored with his toys because they don't move/fly on their own Grin

Any chance of getting a heated pad - or similar - for them? Cats seem to gravitate towards heat so that might be a good solution for snoozing on those 'in-between' sort of days. (I know they're only young but they've both been a bit poorly.) Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 01/08/2016 14:27

They don't seem cold cozie, in fact they're both sleeping Bobby under my bed and Teddy on the living room windowsill, not exactly the warmest parts of the house, they usually sleep on the bed in a furry blanket (well hubby's fluffy dressing gown - I had to buy him another 😀). There's an electric blanket on the bed so I'll put that on if it gets cold.

Well I do that for Seniorboy most of the year round but he's most elderly and has bad arthritis. Still............Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 01/08/2016 19:59

Teddy's been up and about this afternoon, probably not quite as active as the last 3 days but then again there's nothing flying about to chase 😀
He wanted to play but got bored with playing by himself so I had to spend the afternoon amusing him until Bobby got up.
Still eating OK even decided to have some leftover roast chicken today which he's turned his nose up at before. They've both had dinner and gone off for a snooze, think I'll pop in and put the electric blanket on if they are on the bed Smile

Ah. You're a goner. Grin

anoldiebutagoody · 01/08/2016 20:42

Put the blanket on for them now they're in here with me so I'll go and turn it off after Only Connect has finished☺. Nice warm bed for me tonight !

I leave it on regardless of Seniorboy's location. (It's only pennies and this is an old and drafty house.) But guess where I generally find him.Wink

cozietoesie · 04/08/2016 22:55

How's the lad doing?

anoldiebutagoody · 05/08/2016 20:39

Hi cozie Teddy's still really good It's lovely to see him running around like a normal kitten, full of fun.
Eating OK, no vomiting and his sneezing/calcivirus has cleared up, weighed him yesterday and he's 3.3kg so weight is steady.
He is loving the garden if the weather's good still chasing everything that flies, also he likes human company outside if Bobby's asleep, so I am often found in the garden with him rather than doing the housework😀.
He's very miserable when it's raining and unlike many kittens I've seen, he gets bored with entertaining himself and mopes around until I play with him then he runs around like a maniac- just when I've started to think he's not so well Confused .
Thought I'd leave it until Monday before speaking to the vet as it will be over a week since finishing the ABs, also I need to have a look at his gums to see how they are.
Because he's so good at the moment I am not sure what to do about the neutering -don't think I would ever forgive myself if it triggered YouKnowWhat and everything that goes with it. Apparently there is a implant that makes them sterile for 12 months but I don't know if it will settle the hormones so he doesn't wander so far, I'll have to ask.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 05/08/2016 21:08

Yep. That's one for discussion with the vet, I reckon. She has all his clinical records and can make the best judgement.

Glad he's doing well and fingers crossed for an improvement in his poor gums. Smile

cozietoesie · 05/08/2016 23:23

It occurred to me a few days ago that while the lad clearly has a fine immune system - tenderly supported by you - I might still wonder whether You Know What was losing its first impact. (If it is indeed that.) Flu, for example, is now - the real thing and not a heavy cold - still a rotten illness but if you read the reports of what it was doing to people in 1918 they fair take your breath away. Mutation and/or acquired population resistance, I guess. Anyway, just Friday night musings.

anoldiebutagoody · 06/08/2016 12:35

It would be great if it is, wouldn't it.
I am hoping that his titre may have reduced a bit, but until next blood test (scheduled for when he's under for neutering) we won't know. In the meantime he's honed his butterfly catching skills as we've had 2 cabbage whites today so far 😑

cozietoesie · 06/08/2016 12:43

Achh - who can tell? High end virology is real cutting edge/book your plane to Stockholm sort of stuff. He's a happy lad right now it sounds and doing, overall, rather better than you expected he might some months back? Sounds good to me. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 08/08/2016 19:20

Spoke to vet today to let her know that Teddy was doing well (although he was sick this morning at about 7am, probably the Metacam irritating his stomach again).
She's happy with his progress, weight was 3.3kg on Saturday, his gums are not quite as inflamed and that he is going out and about, catching flies and butterflies. So we have decided that he'll be neutered on Sat morning, go in at 8.45 and back home around 11. If everything goes to plan the cattery will be empty (they don't do routine surgery on a Saturday) and they'll have Feliway plugins etc to keep his stress levels down and minimise the risk of triggering the YouKnowWhat.
We did discuss the implant and although it's licenced for dogs it does work on cats, however there hasn't been a lot of monitoring in cats it does affect the hormones so should limit the roaming but as it's really for dogs that's not guaranteed also they don't know how long it would last maybe 12-18 mths, and we would still have to neuter him .
As we still need to sort out his teeth especially if he can't have the Metacam for very long without it irritating his stomach and she wants to examine his tummy to see if she can feel anything which is better under anaesthetic as he's completely relaxed we decided to bite the bullet. And as he sent walkabout on his own for 2 hours yesterday we have to do something quite soon.
Please could you all send lots of positive vibes this way for/on Saturday, I'll be trying to do my weekly food shopping with everything crossed which should be interesting Smile.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 08/08/2016 19:32

So she's planning a bit of a Twofer with the GA? Sounds opportune.

Difficult one for you all - but that walkabout is ......challenging. Fingers crossed for the weekend. I'm sure there will be people around here on Saturday to talk to when you're back from the shop.

anoldiebutagoody · 08/08/2016 20:37

Thanks cozie.
I'm not coming home without him (won't be buying any frozen food 😀) so will update when he's back.

cozietoesie · 08/08/2016 20:55

Good stuff. Remember to take your mobile with you so that you can call them from the store. It shouldn't be a long procedure but even so, they sometimes like to keep them around for just that little bit longer. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 08/08/2016 22:43

I will take my mobile but probably won't need it as their car park backs on to the local TESCO, I could just nip around the fence if I didn't need the car to take us home.😀
I'll drop him off, go and have a coffee, do the shopping by which time he should be awake - must remember to bring my Kindle too in case he's not ready. Vet said the actual procedure only took about 15/ 20 minutes but there's the sedation and examining his tummy and gums - even so with her wanting to be quick I would expect it to be over in 30/40 mins then he just has to wake up - so if they start at about 9 he may be awake not long after 10.
Maybe I'd better do the shopping then have the coffee Smile as we want him home back in his comfort zone asap.

All the best to you all. I'll be thinking positive thoughts on Saturday morning. Smile

Potentialmadcatlady · 08/08/2016 23:46

Just to give you a positive ( if slightly different) story.. My first foster wasn't supposed to have any anaesthetic because of a severe heart condition so neutering wasn't supposed to be on the cards for her ( indoor cat) but when she started to go into season she got so distressed that vet decided the stress of her being in season ( all the time it seemed!) was also too much for her heart so decided to neuter her even though it was high risk... ( that was a long sentence)... Q one very stressed foster Mum...dropped her off...got phone call less than an hour later- all done and ready to come home...the aesthetic or the neutering didn't phase her at all in the end..fingers crossed its the same for your wee one...

anoldiebutagoody · 09/08/2016 09:31

Do you know I reckon he understands English - little so and so isn't so good today. He was sick at 3am and 6am just the froth and probably because he wouldn't eat his supper last night. He didn't want much this morning either until I crumbled some Thrive chicken treats into it (thank you Tilly x)
I'm sure he knows there's something planned for Saturday.
It hasn't stopped him going out and chasing flies, butterflies are still asleep I think.
Will have to take his temperature when he comes back in just to check he's not running another infection .

Ouch. Let us know how he does later.
