Help please poorly kitten

My 6mth old kitten (Teddy) has been vomiting white frothy liquid since Sat night. Took him to vet yesterday (because I was concerned about the stuff DH had put on the lawn last week) she examined him and did bloods but apart from slightly raised temperature everything was normal. She gave him an injection to help the nausea and he tried to eat a tiny bit of fish last night.
He was sick again last night but nothing since the only thing is he's still not interested in food. He is drinking a little and weeing so that's good but he is sleeping a lot and looking very sorry for himself.
Is there anything I can do/get him to help his tummy and tempt him to eat. Tried steamed fish and chicken and all his favorites but no interest so far.
We (Teddy and me) would be very grateful for any ideas. Thanks Here he is a week or so ago x

Little tyke ate nearly a bowl full of wet and dry at tea time , much more than he ate earlier, then they both went to bed 😁

That'll be him at 3.5kg then!

Hope the boys are actually snoozing and not just plotting their next move!

cozietoesie · 14/07/2016 20:49

Well done Teddy. Smile

Didn't you have a suspicion that he might be getting something 'on the hoof'?

anoldiebutagoody · 15/07/2016 11:09

Raining here again today so Teddy and Bobby have taken up residence on my bed.
Teddy ate half a bowl of food this morning and some dry so not too bad.
Expect it will be a sleepy day as neither of them want to go out😃

cozietoesie · 15/07/2016 11:20

Sounds good. Smile (I'm assuming no vomit?)

When are you due to take his temperature again?

TimeIhadaNameChange · 15/07/2016 11:33

What do you mean "my bed"?????? Just because they allow to you sleep there doesn't make it yours!

Glad to hear he's done some good munching today. Hope they both enjoy their snooze, and get to go outside later, once the rain stops.

Yes I should know better Time, given the contortions I have to be in to get some space when Teddy's on the bed, for a little kitten he takes up a lot of space 😀.
He's still OK , no vomiting at all even though we've stopped the antacids. He's seems to want to eat but then gets distracted or bored, also I am so seeing if his teeth are bothering him, he can't seem to be able to get at the food unless it's in a heap, once he licks it flat he can't pick it up ( so I have to heap it back up for him and he eats again), so I wondered if the front of his mouth is sore.
His top and bottom teeth at the front of his mouth look like they are coming out, the gums are dark red like a bruise and they did bleed at one point (cue another set of bloods for clotting tests-all OK) vet put it down to the calcivirus, which it probably is.
It wasn't stopping him eating but he was on Metacam at that time. It's a couple of weeks since we stopped the Metacam so maybe they're hurting now. It's just the little teeth at the very front, his canines are fine, he crunches dry food no problem once it's in his mouth.
I'll mention it to the vet tomorrow after I've weighed him.
In himself he's really good, loving playing with anything that makes a noise, at the moment my living room is littered with brown paper packaging because it makes a lovely noise when he pounces on it and it's great to hide under or for mum to hide the feather toy under for pouncing practice 😁

Don't worry, you'll learn! DP still likes to pretend he has ownership of things, but he knows fine well he doesn't really. Tilly is currently in the process of acquiring 'his' footstool - it's been there for ages but she's only recently shown an interest in it and now thinks it's the best place ever for snoozing on. Got a lovely shot of DP twisted sideways trying to watch the footie, but, being unable to use her (now) pawstool, having to sit parallel to the tv so he could put his feet somewhere. Tee hee!

How did it go with the vet yesterday? Did you take Teddy in, or was it just a phone consult? Had his weight increased at all? Hope you manage to sort out his teeth with not too much hassle.

Good to hear he's sounding so well in himself. Lovely to hear he now has a playroom, can well imagine the mess on the floor. Sounds similar to us, only our house is currently full of large cardboard boxes (none of which can be thrown out as they're too much fun to hide in!).

Looking forward to hearing what the vet had to say.

x

cozietoesie · 19/07/2016 13:32

Yes indeed.

anoldiebutagoody · 19/07/2016 22:49

😂 Thanks Time My DH already knows his place he's been banished to the spare room since Teddy had his OP in case he kicked or later on him at night - Teddy sleeps on his side of the bed albeit at the bottom😁 Told DH he can come back when Teddy's better which he's OK with ( says I snore anyway 😙, the cats don't complain !)
Spoke with vet this afternoon about his teeth, who said to give him a low dose of Metacam for two days, providing it doesn't make him vomit, then if it helps him eating, every other day for a week - she did say that if the teeth were lose she'd take them out when he was under anaesthetic being neutered.
Given him one dose at 6pm so will see if he improves at supper .

It never rains but it pours in this house, poor Bobby looks like he has hayfever, he's sneezing then rubbing his nose like it's itching and one of his eyes is crying, bless him.
I thought it might be the calcivirus rearing its head again but his gums look the same and it's different kind of sneezing - mentioned it to the vet but because of how stressed he was on his last visit to the vet I said I'd keep an eye on him and hopefully the pollen count will reduce in the next few days so he should get better. If it is the calcivirus I'll just have to cross my fingers that Teddy doesn't get worse again.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 21/07/2016 09:21

Sounds like you and the boys have your DH very well trained. Am impressed! I suspect the mention of your snoring is just him trying to save face, though, to make it seem as though it is his choice to sleep in the spare room. Just smile and nod!

How's Teddy doing on the Metacam? Is it helping at all? And how's Bobby's hayfever? Poor boy, he has my sympathy, I know exactly how he feels. Are they suffering in the heat at all? We've not had it too bad up here (and Tilly prefers the heat to the rain, anyway, as she 'can't' go out when it's wet).

Thought of you last night, btw - actually got a cuddle with Tilly for once! Only because I was still sat on her sofa when she wanted it and refused to move as Holby was on (Scotland, it's on late here) so she thought she's sit on my lap instead. She was v unimpressed when I wanted to get up to go to the loo and bed, though. Think she wants some training tips from your boys!

anoldiebutagoody · 21/07/2016 10:42

Yes DH is a good one, knows his place Smile.
Teddy's been fine on the Metacam, no vomiting, I think it is helping his teeth/ gums as he's chewing his toys more when he plays. Not so sure he's eating any more than he was before, wish he was putting on some weight. I am glad he's not losing it but he's half the size Bobby was when he came and only 6 weeks younger - if his paws weren't so big I'd say he was going to be a small cat but they are huge compared to the rest of him, I'll weigh him in a bit to see if he's still the same. He's still bright as a button loving the garden, chasing the flies and following Bobby-i'm though they both found it a bit hot on Tuesday and retired to the bedroom where it was cool.

Bobby's still sneezing and it's starting to get a bit like the calcivirus was, it's cooler today and not so muggy so I 'll see if he improves as the pollen count isn't so high, trouble is the good weather has meant the grass all around here is quite long so if he's in the middle of that he'll get the pollen anyway. Hopefully the gardener we all use will be around to cut it today or tomorrow.
Glad you got a cuddle from Tilly even if it was begrudged- Teddy came for a snuggle this morning when he heard the alarm clock and I got 10 mins purring, then Bobby came home and off he went Sad.

cozietoesie · 21/07/2016 10:48

Well it sounds as if he's having a good life. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 25/07/2016 20:31

Oh b*gger it looks like it was Calcivirus Bobby had, he's much better now, but poor Teddy has started sneezing.
I can only hope he's built up some antibodies to it (as Bobby seems to have done) and it doesn't last 4/5 weeks like the last time. He's not meant to be neutered is he Confused .
Other than the sneezing he's eating better when he has the Metacam but every other day doesn't work, he needs it for two days then a day off. The other way he was back having trouble eating on the third day , even so I weighed him today and he's 0.1 kg heavier than when we started. I know it's not much but it's in the right direction ☺
May give the vet a ring tomorrow to see if she thinks he should have some antibiotics in case his gums get infected given they're already not very good.We did have some good results last time with Ronaxan but it's not easy to give as it can burn their throats if it gets stuck.

cozietoesie · 25/07/2016 20:35

Achh. Let us know what the vet says.

I can't give my own lad oral ABs - it has to be an injection. Your vet may not be a fan, though.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/07/2016 11:32

Oh eeeeeek! Sorry to hear that. It never rains but it pours, eh?

Are getting him more antibiotics? Hope he takes them like the good boy he is if so.

Got another sort-of-cuddle from Tilly, though coming on to my lap again so soonwas obviously too much so I had to position the cushions on top of me so she could curl up on one of them, and then wiggle the others underneath so I could get up to go to bed without disturbing her too much! She was funny the other day though - sat on "DP's" footstool as he came over she stretched her paw out to the matching chair as if to point out that was hers as well! DP sat on the sofa (and I on the floor, naturally!). Then the next day he was sat on the chair reading a football fictures poster which was lying on the stool. When T realised his attention was so deeply focussed on the stool she jumped up so that he actually had something to concentrate on! DP was not amused!

Hope the boys aren't suffering too much in the heat. We've been having rain, and lots of it. T is unimpressed!

anoldiebutagoody · 26/07/2016 19:50

Vet agreed that it would be best to have some more antibiotics, given his underlying problems so he has another weeks supply. Fingers crossed that will be enough to keep any infection at bay.H e was good as gold taking the pills this evening bless him.
He's a bit quiet today (apart from sneezing), but it's rained all day and he likes the sunshine, even Bobby's inside.
Still eating OK, no vomiting and vet was OK with the 2 days on one day off for the Metacam as it will also help with any temperature rise the calcivirus causes.
I am wondering if we are just delaying the inevitable but while he's still having more good days than bad I can't have him PTS, he's such a lovely boy .(I'm crying just typing this.)
But when I see how much energy Bobby has compared to Teddy there's no comparison and I so want Teddy to have the same life & energy. Not very likely when he keeps getting poorly Sad.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 26/07/2016 19:51

He's doing OK, I think - considering everything. No need to cry. Smile

anoldiebutagoody · 26/07/2016 20:18

I know but I keep wondering if it's fair on him that he has to go through illness after illness. He deserves to have such a good life and I can't make that happen.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 26/07/2016 20:24

Give it longer, he's had a rough start but viruses do take ages to get over.

cozietoesie · 26/07/2016 20:29

You'd got to remember as well that he's a different cat to Bobby and likely a very different character. I'd never judge any other cat by comparison with The Lodger - who is not only a big strapping hulk but struts his stuff around everywhere as if he owned the world. Wink

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/07/2016 20:45

But he IS having a good life!

He has Bobby, his bestest friend to follow around and snuggle with, and you and your DP to give him everything he desires. Honestly, he wants for nowt.

Is he happy? I get the feeling he is, and that's the main thing.

I know I go on about my lot too much, but he reminds me of one of my old guineas, who, when he was a few months old had a severe ear infection. I was away at the time, and when I saw him I thought I was taking him to the vets to be pts. He was so, so weak, and despite the antibiotics for a few weeks couldn't manage to get out of one carry box as the lip was too high at 1 cm.

He survived (outlived his brothers) and although he was never 'right' he was the happiest wee lad you could meet. He was hyperactive, ran in circles and in a world of his own. He loved nothing better than escaping wherever he was so he could cause chaos elsewhere!

What I'm tying to say is that he was ill, and if you compared his life to that of his brothers you'd have pitied him, but actually he was happy as he was. Please stop comparing Teddy and Bobby but judge Teddy by himself (if that makes sense).

And if he's happy, which it sounds like he is, than you should be too!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 26/07/2016 20:47

Or what Cozie said.

anoldiebutagoody · 26/07/2016 20:51

Yes I know you're right I shouldn't compare.
I just feel so sorry that he's had such a lousy life so far, and even though I'm doing everything I can for him he's not really improving and may be suffering, though not in pain as we're controlling that.
I'm willing to do whatever's needed for as long as needed and I suppose he doesn't know any different.
So is a mediocre life, with various illnesses, for however long he has better than nothing ?, given he knows no different I suppose it is Smile
