Weaning cat off Felix onto natures menu country hunter

Anyone with any advice my cat seems pretty much addicted to Felix. I've researched cat food and with help from threads on here have decided to use natures menu country hunter. They advise giving the cat 2 bowls one with the Felix and one with some country hunter and to take it slowly until he starts eating the country hunter. Anyone have any idea why they don't advise just mixing it in with the Felix and gradually increasing the amount? Should have asked them on the phone and now can't get through to them.

Also has anyone successfully got their cat off Felix onto a better quality food?

How are you getting on?

cozietoesie · 09/03/2016 21:58

My old boy won't eat much else (apart from his meat at lunch and various 'snacks') so I'm a little despondent about it. Seniorboy has to have meds with his pouch food and is also entirely capable of going on hunger strike - which at his age is not good - so I'm pretty well stuck I fear.

He is now on 2 pouches of country hunter a day and he gets a half tray of applaws pate before I go to bed. He is looking great on it and his poo is much smaller and less smelly Grin.

Well done! Smile

PolpoPolpo · 10/03/2016 07:42

Sorry to ask a daft question but why were you weaning him off Felix? What's better about the Country Hunter brand?

SunsetDream · 10/03/2016 08:28

Much (much, much) higher meat content, no fillers (cereals/ grain/ wheat etc.), better quality food for healthier animal Smile

Daftaboutthecat - I'm glad you are seeing the positive differences. We really noticed a change for the better!

hollinhurst84 · 10/03/2016 10:13

Mine likes the country hunter one when he's not on raw Smile

Daftaboutthecat · 10/03/2016 17:22

Sunset it is unbelievable the difference it makes now to overhaul my own diet!!
Cozie to be honest I wouldn't have overly pushed it if he wasn't for it happy cat is the main thing especially when they are older and on meds.
Hollin do you prepare your own raw food I'm tempted to replace one of the pouches with raw but was going to use the natures menu frozen. Have you tried it?

PolpoPolpo · 10/03/2016 18:11

Well I'm sold. Thanks for enlightening me Sunset and Daftaboutthecat.

cozietoesie · 10/03/2016 18:22

I'm sorely tempted, I must admit. Smile And to be fair, there have been a fair number of pouches that have found their way to other recipients over the years - the remainder wouldn't go to waste even if Seniorboy turned his nose up at a couple.

SunsetDream · 10/03/2016 19:03

I know what you mean about our own diet!

I keep eyeing up the frozen nuggets of raw... (I initially said I wouldn't do raw... But seeing the change a better diet has made has made me think...)

cozietoesie · 10/03/2016 19:09

Well I've ordered some.

We'll see. Smile

good luck cozie and polpo hope they like them 😀

hollinhurst84 · 10/03/2016 22:13

Nope I haven't used it. I just give chunks/mince and a supplement called Felini complete

cozietoesie · 16/03/2016 11:53

Just arrived. We'll see later. Smile

Daftaboutthecat · 16/03/2016 13:39

Good luck cozie the advice on their website for introducing it in a second bowl alongside the existing food is excellent. I just put a spoonful in another bowl first day he didn't even look at it so don't be disheartened he very quickly took to it.

I hope so - but this is the cat that oftentimes only grudgingly eats roast chicken.

Daftaboutthecat · 16/03/2016 15:20

Grin think you may need lots of luck

I'll try to time it right - eg when he's hungry for his breakfast or overnight nosh. His feeding point is going to look like a cruise-ship buffet! Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/03/2016 21:08

Well you can't expect senior boy to eat chicken not wrapped in pancetta.

Dammit he has standards

Daftaboutthecat · 16/03/2016 21:36

Has he tried some cozie?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 16/03/2016 22:51

Nah - I wimped out under his glazed Felix look. Grin I'm going to leave half a pouch at his feeding station tonight to see what happens overnight, though.

cozietoesie · 17/03/2016 09:13

That half pouch was finished by breakfast time this morning - which is a first! I shall have to see whether he continues to eat it because it's the longevity of appeal of Felix which has been the real crunch over the years.

(My cc is weeping gently in a corner of the room. Grin)
