Ladies of the Litter! Petition for Celia Hammond in trouble

Evening all

Celia Hammond the animal charity has, for years, run a superb centre for Londoners, human and otherwise, that gives free medical treatment and rescue services for cats and dogs. But the local council has shut all their parking bays, which means that people staggering with cat baskets and injured dogs who can't walk can no longer make it to the centre as there's nowhere sensible to park.

This Change petition begs the council's mayor to reconsider. I don't know why it's in German either, but it does work.

It is certainly causing us huge problems. And Fluffy moving premises really isn't an option. The original building is quite large, with three flats upstairs for vet accommodation.

We have just extended massively at the back and upwards - creating more operating theatres and cat accommodation. We have also bought an old factory at the back of the alley (which Balfour Beatty kindly put a new roof on for us for free as part of their Olympic legacy commitment to the community), which we are using for storage and more cat accommodation, and have a long lease on the old nightclub next door, which we have made into large walk-in pens for cats waiting for homing.

To find all that somewhere else would be just about impossible and certainly not affordable.

All we need is some parking.

What recent political representations have CHAT and the community made, TCN? This may be a good time to get some politicians down there to be seen with the animals, I think - election and all - if people can move quickly for a photo op.

PS - the strategy here is to blame the council officials for 'pulling the wool over the councillors' eyes'. It's highly unlikely that there was any wool-pulling of course but needs must when the devil drives. CHAT need to resurrect the issue fast.

Cozie we haven't stopped with this - including lots of meetings with the Council and local govt reps, protests (featured in the local paper) etc. It's what has taken up most of Celia's time for the last few months.
