Ladies of the Litter! Petition for Celia Hammond in trouble

Evening all

Celia Hammond the animal charity has, for years, run a superb centre for Londoners, human and otherwise, that gives free medical treatment and rescue services for cats and dogs. But the local council has shut all their parking bays, which means that people staggering with cat baskets and injured dogs who can't walk can no longer make it to the centre as there's nowhere sensible to park.

This Change petition begs the council's mayor to reconsider. I don't know why it's in German either, but it does work.

signed and shared on facebook surely theres some proviso in the disabled discrimination act that says full acces to buildings is in the law shutting the parking bays would stop people accesssing the centre might be worth looking into that angle good luck i hope they get reinstated

We have two CHAT kitties and they have enriched our lives enormously.
They'd want to put their paw prints to this petition too!

Thanks for this everyone. Keep them coming.

Dido, if CHAT cats could also sign we'd have no problem reaching our target:)

MrsBertMacklin · 03/05/2015 11:24

Signed - TCN, what solutions are being requested of the councillor? I can see some very short stay on-street bays on Streetview. Are these the available bays mentioned in the petition?

If the Council knew they were shutting the car park down and presumably, the developer benefitting from this has a Section 106 agreement with the Council that sees them putting something (funds or facilities) back into the community in return for the 'suck' on resources that they're making, it's nuts that they've not extended the stay times on those bays / put funding aside to make more bays on side streets.

thecatneuterer · 03/05/2015 15:36

MrsBert - what we are requesting (since our fight to keep the car park failed) is a lot more parking bays all along Barking Road and also shifting the bus stop down a bit.

There used to be a lot more parking all along the length of the road but they made it all into double yellow lines about a year before they closed the car park. If we could have that back again it would be something, although of course nothing will really compensate for losing the car park.

The Council consider that the posh flats they are building on the car park is putting something back into the community.

Perhaps Celia could bring every new tenant a rescue cat as a moving-in present?

It's a thought:) In a similar vein I'm a landlord, and while I don't force my tenants to adopt a CHAT cat as a condition of their tenancy, I have certainly managed to 'persuade' quite a few Grin
