Advice on neighbours dog…neglected.

Neighbour has lived next door for 2 years. Had this dog for last 14 months.

I’m home all day and never seen him be walked or played with.

Living in outside wooden kennel which is covered in his poo and has hardly any water.

Desperate for attention when I walk by him but shaking on approach.

Thr dog warden is not interested - not her job as it’s not lost or causing a nuisance!

RSPCA say as long as he has shelter and water it’s ok.

He’s been outside all this time during all the heatwaves and winter.

I want to rescue him and give him a home and love and the life he deserves.

What can I do?

If You post the address I'll rescue him

I won’t be giving the address out nor stealing him in the dead of night.

It will have to be all above board.

I have to live here.

I absolutely loathe people who mistreat the elderly young and animals and anyone else defenceless. I’ve no advice to give. Having dealt with the RSPCA in similar circumstances, I was gobsmacked at their response.

The problem is if I offer them money for this dog, they will probably go and buy a new puppy with it…

How do you know that? Sounds like a big assumption.

Why post on here if you’re not willing to accept any advice or help?

Have you actually reported this to 101? Have you actually knocked on their door and spoken to them?

There’s a dog on the line here. I don’t feel it’s being treated with the urgency it requires tbh.

Have you read the thread?!

The fact is, OP is being incredibly diligent and doing her best. The sorts of people who abuse animals are the sort who turn violent or aggressive easily. OP would be an absolute idiot to put herself or her family (and indeed DC if she has any) on the line for this. OP has already said, several times, her neighbours have form for being difficult.

These sorts of people always go out and buy a new puppy. It's one of the reasons why charities don't go around knocking on doors (despite what people in this thread have previously suggested) offering to take dogs - because as soon as we (and yes, I include myself in this) help one dog, the family just go and buy another from some puppy farmer and abuse that one instead. It's literally a never ending cycle.

OP has posted asking for advice and help. She's had it and that is why she is proceeding carefully - because people more experienced than her in handling these situations have made her aware of the risks of the types of intervention that others have suggested including suggestions that, should her neighbours report to the police, would result in time served.

Everyone is billy big bollocks when it's not their safety, or their families safety, on the line. 🙄

Thank you xx

This is the case explained much more succinctly than I have done!

I have got the dogs best interests at heart which is why I will not be taking advice from someone like you with your accusatory tone!

Obviously there is a risk of that but I find it unlikely. Given they haven't given him any attention I can't see why they would want another one unless they are breeding from him. I don't think it's a good reason not to try.

Any update on this poor baby?? 😞

@DoodleSquad. Not necessarily.

  • They could be first time dog owners who didn't realise what having a dog entails and don't what to repeat the experience.
  • You've already offered to take the dog. If they had given him to you free of charge, they might still have decided to purchase another dog.
  • If the dog remains in this situation much longer, he will die. They may still buy another dog.

The quickest way to ease his suffering is to let someone offer to buy him. Otherwise, you are going to find a dead dog in that kennel in the very near future.

Not at all a given. They might be highly relieved to not have the hassle of a dog any more. This dog desperately needs help. That's a 100% certainty.
