What breed mix would you put this chap as?

Recently adopted pup, 2 years old thereabouts.

Lab cross... something by all accounts.

We have just sent off for DNA testing, but I'm curious as to what others would guess at?

He's a big chap, around 39kg. With a white flash on his chest and a little on his paws.

Could be 3/4 lab based on how labby he looks. You can never tell with mixes though. A friend has a DNA confirmed mix of cocker spaniel and Jack Russell who looks like neither parent.

Do let us know when the DNA comes back.

Results are in!

Retriever cross Fox Hound in the main.

Labrador x pointer

Agree with this.

MabelAnderson · 08/07/2026 23:12

Oh ! Hound ! Interesting.

AlwaysRightISwear · 09/07/2026 00:18

Half lab no surprise. I wouldn't have guessed quarter foxhound but I think I can see it in him now.

MarchionessVonSausage · 09/07/2026 01:13

How interesting! I wouldn't have picked that!

I was about to agree with everyone who said lab x weimaraner 😁

AngryBeyondWords03 · 09/07/2026 01:25

I would of said
Lab / Kane Korso

FourCatMama · 09/07/2026 03:52

Part Lab and part Catahoula

FourCatMama · 09/07/2026 03:57

Well a Catahoula is a Louisiana hound dog so I was partially right!

Civilservant · 09/07/2026 12:00

What fun! Thank you for the results!

Menohaze · 09/07/2026 12:05

Please tell me there is chihuahua in there somewhere 😂

He's absolutely gorgeous.

I wouldn't use a slip lead on a puller because yes, they're punitive. I'd rather stick with a harness or in extreme cases a head harness, and take the time to work on lead behaviour.

Slip leads are great for working gundogs who are fully trained and can't wear a collar when working, but I would never use one as a training tool

Agree with this point re slip leads. We have working dogs - slip leads are invaluable for us, but don’t work for untrained dogs. The training has to be in place first, nothing worse than seeing someone yanking on one. The dog stays to heel with or without the lead - it’s just a precaution and to ensure they are safe.

Doh 😳 keep up you stupid woman!

Gardenisablooming · 09/07/2026 16:25

Op what testing company did you use ?we got a lurcher who's now 9 months and 20 kg and still growing. Bit dubious on the suggested mix..

I had thought so too! He has quite a solid head/face and droopy lip.

We used Wisdom. Took a couple of weeks as it gets sent to the States I think. Said dog was a little 🤔 at my swab attempts but it clearly worked.

I initially paid for just the basic breed detection bit, but when the results arrived I was too intrigued and paid extra for the health screening, behavioural traits etc bit too.

labrador and Great Dane cross. Bred Labradors all my life and I think it’s a Labrador Dane

MandyMotherOfBrian · 09/07/2026 16:59

Yep, that makes perfect sense, although admit I didn't see it back at the beginning.
I have fostered both a Foxhound and a Harrier for a short while (for a local rescue), both lovely lads. Has he jumped the fence yet? 😲😁

RVectensian · 10/07/2026 18:51

Ha, no he hasn't actually tried to, or done a runner anywhere...yet!

Wow, almost the same as our oldboy Lab x Pointer!

CelticSilver · 10/07/2026 20:13

I had a collie x labrador who looked like that.

LadyLolaRuben · 10/07/2026 20:27

Yes as another poster has said, he's got the build and posture of a pointer mixed with lab. Beautiful 😍

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 10/07/2026 20:32

Lab something. Good looking dog.
