What is your dogs unusual skill?

My dog is very good at dribbling a ball. He likes to have a toy in his mouth while he kicks a ball around the house. Sometimes he passes to one of his humans and we kick it back and forth (mostly accurate).

other dog has no skill sadly - maybe the very good look of disdain he gives the other dog if the ball comes near him

this was the AI suggested title
Dog who dribbles a ball around the house and his unimpressed companion 🤣

That is very clever, OP! My previous dog was literally a genius confirmed by a university! I could go on for days about his skills.

My current two are.......well, they are adorable. We'll leave it there, shall we. 💓

VIII · 01/06/2026 20:30

He does a very good impression of a shadow...

Tbf big dog can teleport as soon as a piece of food appears. Will be asleep on the sofa next door and a second later is standing behind you eyeing up your dinner

Mine knows to cross the road only when there are no cars coming (he stands and keeps looking both ways) and at a crossing to wait until the green man/ sound.

DDog (Dick Dog) wouldn't need to teleport he can't possibly be a whole room away from me. 😂

Hiding high value treats under my pillow as a... nice (?) surprise!

BeardySchnauzer · 01/06/2026 20:34

that's a good skill. Does he try and take himself off for walks alone now!

Mine can carry 2 tennis balls in his mouth.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 01/06/2026 20:35

My Boris is very good at marking his territory on your pillow which you only appreciate as you approach sleep. He’s also adept at barking at you to ensure you know it’s teatime, you might forget else. He’s also my bestie and pillows wash. And I now have several spares. He’s a Spanish rescue and arrived with ‘quirks’.

If your dog is a chihuahua that is very impressive!

Not to boast but my last Labrador managed 3 once 🤣. He spat one out, then another and we were astounded when the last one came out! He liked to dribble a football to but absolutely no passing!

Current lab’s special skill can only be explained with a photo… 🤣

Howls along to rag n bone man.
Always leaves pizza crusts and empty jacket potato skins in my DHs shoes, never anyone else's.

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 01/06/2026 20:44

Jumping
He's a cardigan corgi so not exactly built for jumping

He can however jump from the sofa to the dining table circumventing the chairs almost 3/4 of a meter away and about 1/2 a meter higher than the sofa so that he can climb into the shelf we keep the cat food on .....
I changed his food as he kept getting a bad stomach and we thought it was his food ffs

He's a Lab.

He is only a baby though (well ... 6 months) he might be working up to 3 to compete with @Idstillratherbepaddleboarding Labrador.

BeardySchnauzer · 01/06/2026 20:46

🤣 I wish we still had the laughing reaction

dogs are the best

my big dog howls along to the piano - he can’t help himself and even does it when he’s half asleep

We’ll need an update if he beats the current record of 3!

I've told him and he wagged his tail.

Up for the challenge!

Tarkan · 01/06/2026 20:54

He can tell the sound of a ham packet opening from the other side of the house while fast asleep and be there silently in a split second.

He can also cross his legs and make a heart shape with the gap between them.

Our dog is a tissue hunter. She seems to smell them from a distance away. She finds them from under my pillow, will pull them out from a sleeve and also pick pocket them! She is obsessed with them. She then proceeds to shred them around the house. If only she could smell truffles and we had a truffle wood near us.

Not quite sadly, he’s called Rory 🥰.

The handstand wee.

My Cavapoo only urinates when doing a hand stand - it's the weirdest thing and ive never seen any dog do it before. She literally jumps onto her front paws, bum high in the air to wee.

I think she's a freaking genius

user1471453601 · 01/06/2026 21:08

Selective deafness is my girls skill, though I suspect it's not uncommon.

When not employing this skill she knows so many words. Stay, come, wait, leave, back off, breakfast, dinner, treat, allotment, place where we dig are just some of the words.

Periodically, when it suited her, she can ignore each and every one of them

Turnitoffnonagain · 01/06/2026 21:09

Our dog can tell the time and also lip read. Not even joking.
