We have a Wire Haired Fox Terrier, so im used to "you dont see many of them, my gran had one, I had one in wheels", but today we saw a Sealyham- iv seen them in books and in Crufts but never in the flesh. We also regularly see a pair of Pharoah Hounds(gorgeous but mental) who blush when they get excited. Again never seen one in real life before they arrived.
Whats the most unusual/most uncommon dog you've seen out and about?

I grew up with wire hair fox terriers as that was my parents preferred breed. Not a fan myself tbh. Not seen any round here, it’s all labs, spaniels, a few dachshunds, etc. I have podencos - Spanish hunting breed, all rescues. Not common. We do have a larrrrrrge Great Dane nearby too.

I used to see a large Munsterlander. Beautiful dog, very well trained.

I saw a spinone at the beach the other day who was absolutely adorable, I’ve only seen them on tv and it made my day. Also rather disturbingly I’ve seen at least 3 dogs in the past couple of months that definitely had a lot of wolf in them. I saw one in Blackpool that looked pure wolf, it was gigantic, though I admit very well behaved, in public anyway. I’ve read on specialised forums that high content wolves are actually generally better behaved than low content (with a sensible owner of course, though I wonder how sensible anyone in the uk is to choose a wolf hybrid as a pet).

There’s a family opposite me that has one, and their family also owns them so they sometimes have a few there visiting. All badly behaved and very barky. I’m in a city centre so probably not the best breed to keep in a city? There’s no good walks or anywhere to let a high energy (no recall) dog off lead

I see a Leonberger walked locally. Beautiful calm big dogs.

King Charles spaniels, two of them- I hadn't seen any in years. It's all cockapoo/labradoodle/sausage dogs here.

I think they believe they ARE people.

Mine greets all guest with a prolonged growl which is her way of talking.

Soft, silly, devoted and lovely creatures.

My mum had a Sealyham 50+ years ago, she was vicious apparently but never bit my grandma who fed her home cooked food every day… There’s a spinone near me, he’s gorgeous. I met a white Hungarian Puli the other week and his owner high fived me for knowing what he was (I was obsessive about dog info as a child).

Mine is a mioritic sheepdog cross and people are always very curious and don’t know what he is (obviously I think he’s very handsome)

At my local park, a man brings three corgis for a walk. They are the only corgis I ever see. My mum loved a corgi and we had two growing up. My DSister is called Susan and she swears she was named after the Queen’s corgi. 😂

A guy local to us has deerhounds that he shows. Those are properly head turning. They are literally the size of a small pony and he told me that each dog has its own sofa all to itself and its own freezer for raw meat!

I met a Spanish Water Dog a couple of days ago. He had webbed feet but his owners said he flatly refuses to swim.

We have quite the eclectic mix at the parks near us. We regularly see a St Bernard, two Irish Wolfhounds, more than one of my neighbours owns a Chow-Chow and my personal favourite a Dandie Dinmont Terrier!

Red setters - a local family have two of them and they are the most glorious dogs. Shiny, bouncy, friendly, a bit dopey.. but somehow just so regal!

I'm in Spain with my Bedlington.
I've had a couple of people telling me that he is a Portuguese water dog.
I have seen lots of Spanish water dogs, including the most adorable litter of puppies

I love an unusual dog. Currently have a Norwich terrier and previously had a Portuguese Podengo Pequano. Norwich terriers are on the vulnerable native breed list, only about 80 born last year I think. Apart from at shows I’ve never seen another. Lots of people think he’s a Cairn including people with Cairns.

My dog’s breeder also breeds Spinones, they’re beautiful dogs.

I go to Ringcraft classes and there is a leonberger there, couple of Scottie’s and also a Cardigan Corgi. None of which you see a lot of.

It’s the sad side of Cockerpoos, etc being so popular. People aren’t buying these dogs anymore.

As a corgi servant, I feel this! I don’t think I’ve gone a day in five years without hearing ‘oooo I’ve never seen a corgi before’

I saw a valhund and a borzoi last week and it was the best day ever

My friend has a rescued Mexican Hairless and some neighbours have a Munsterlander, others have a Valhund.
An old friend used to have an Irish Water Spaniel.
We have a Beauceron now having owned a Borzoi, a Deerhound and an Irish Wolfhound, over the years.

Quite a few near us or out on various local walks that we see semi regularly
Bedlington terriers (6 owned by one family who show them)
3 Leonbergers owned by one couple (!)
Chow chow
St Bernard
Mioritic shepherd
Patterdale terrier (tbf I'm not sure if these are so unusual?)
Corgi
American Akita (seen quite a few Japanese Akitas over the years including 4 owned by friends, but never an American one)
Irish setter
Nepalese mountain dog

One of my friends has a Malinois, which have definitely nose-dived in popularity over the last twenty years.

We often bump into a Basenji which yodels fantastically and has a very judgmental face.

I haven't seen them recently but a woman near me has three Australian Cattle dogs. Not uncommon dogs elsewhere in the world but (rightfully) not popular in the UK.

I used to regularly bump into a woman with two Petit Basset Griffon Vendéens.

A dalmatian would be the next rarest.

It's mainly labradors and spaniels round here.

I met a chap out with two Tibetan Spaniels. Never seen those before: I thought they were overgrown Pekinese, and it's many many years since I encountered a Peke in real life. About 55 years; they really went out of fashion.
