Didn't realise we were that close to the end of part 3. 😂

I have never watched Star Wars 😬
I think I watched Indiana Jones when I was a child

No he definitely won’t have learned his lesson! I just wish people wouldn’t discard food on the floor and I’m sure I saw him snaffle bread crusts out of a bush at one point!

Struckbylightning · 23/07/2026 17:10

I have got really behind on this thread but enjoyed catching up. Sorry for all the poorly doggos and humans.
Congrats on the good job news.
Jealous that some people have had cool weather. I am still melting most days and the garden is looking totally exhausted.
Totally shocked that some people have not seen Star Wars. I think you may be breaking some kind of law. Star Wars is wonderful. As is Indiana Jones. But at heart for me it is always Star Trek. I am an unashamed Trekkie, I watch it on repeat and it makes the world seem a little bit better.
I had a horrible walk yesterday. Went along the canal and Merry was swarmed by wasps. I don’t think she was stung, but she was totally freaked out and I was really worried because I think (not sure) she might be allergic to stings. Anyway, there was one burrowing it’s way into her fur. I was trying to get it off, but she kept snapping at me. In the end I threw her ball in the canal so I think that got rid of the wasp. I don’t blame her for snapping, she was freaked out but for some reason it made me very sad and I blubbed. Pathetic.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/07/2026 08:50

@Silverbirchleaf Perhaps! He certainly used to be quite nice to look at - bit old now!

@VanGoSunflowers you get some points for Indiana Jones...I suppose.

Poor Pablo. I guess that's the labrador retriever genes in him - just can't help himself!

@Struckbylightning finally someone who has seen what I have seen!! Glad to have another fan here. Between this and the nut's in cake situation I was starting to worry I was the outcast 😀I have to confess I have never watched Star Trek though...

Oh I'm sorry! That sounds like a really crap walk. And I can completely understand why you might have blubbed and it's not pathetic at all! I've done the same. It's always hard not to take it personally if they get a bit sharp, particularly when they're scared as you always hope they'll just be scared and come to you like a child might...at least that's what I always find myself thinking!

How is she now? Is she a bit better?

Hope everyone had okay morning walks! Was really muggy here again, which I am sure is contributing to my not feeling 100%. It's due to get up to 30 next week...at this point I am rather sick of the sun! bring on nice crisp, cold, autumn walks.

SpanielsGalore · 24/07/2026 11:30

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks Never have I ever watched an Indiana Jones film.
I have however watched a few Star Trek ones, but we're talking William Shatner era.

@VanGoSunflowers I hope Pablo is feeling better today. Not that he felt poorly, but it sounds better than saying I hope his poo has firmed up.

@Struckbylightning Sorry you had an awful walk. Poor Merry being swarmed by wasps. It was a good idea to throw her ball in the canal. Not sure I would have thought of that in the panic of the moment.
Of course being snapped at made you sad. There's absolutely no shame or embarrassment to be had in crying. It's a perfectly natural reaction to an emotional situation. No one likes to think their usually lovely natured dog will snap at them. Merry actually showed great restraint by only snapping. She could just as easily have bitten you if she'd wanted to.
I hope you have recovered from the incident and are both feeling better now.

K's coat arrived and had it's first wearing last night after her swim in the estuary. I was a little worried it was too long at the front, but I let her into the garden and she raced around and jumped the wall, so it definitely doesn't restrict her movement.
As you can see, she was suitably impressed with it. 😂

@Struckbylightning Im so sorry, that sounds awful! I’d have totally panicked in that situation and well done for your quick thinking! Hope you’re ok today. I’ve cried over Pablo’s behaviour many times, it shows you care!

@SpanielsGalore ha that made me smile, he’s completely fine now and the poos are firm 😂 your picture of K has absolutely melted my heart, she’s beyond adorable!

Ive woken up feeling pretty crappy this morning. Feels like a cold but with a very heavy, very tired feeling so maybe I’ve got what you had @TheHungryHungryLandsharks

Cute picture. Which one did you get ?

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/07/2026 16:34

@SpanielsGalore Not Indiana Jones either!!!

Not sure I can cope with the lack of Harrison Ford (30 years ago) appreciation on this thread.

K looks utterly adorable, and so tiny! She really has a beautiful face - not sure I would ever be able to tell her off if she was naughty, I'd just go 'ohhh' and melt.

@VanGoSunflowers that sounds exactly like what I've had! I also had a bit of a headache at the front of my head. I also kept thinking I had shrugged it off, but it kept coming back a few hours later...hope you feel better soon!

VanGoSunflowers · 24/07/2026 17:25

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks are you feeling better now? I slept for 2 hours this afternoon!
Also very grumpy as I’ve just opened my payslip
and HMRC have taken an extra £600 in tax from me this month for reasons only known to them so I am currently on hold to them and have been for half an hour. Being ill and grumpy is not a great combination.

SpanielsGalore · 24/07/2026 17:31

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks I've just looked up HF on IMDB. Of all his films, I think I have only watched 3 - Witness, What Lies Beneath and Blade Runner 2049. Witness was the only one I watched by my own choosing.

K is absolutely adorable. Even when she's being a little shit. Her size definitely works in her favour. Everyone thinks she is cute.

@Silverbirchleaf It's the Lucky Paws one, that Tizwozliz recommended.

@VanGoSunflowers Hope you feel better soon. 💐
ETA - What utter bastards! I hope you get it back promptly, which won't help you this month at all.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 24/07/2026 18:24

@VanGoSunflowers A bit, but not 100% Well enough I'll do three dog walks today (at a very very slow pace) and work but I've not left the sofa otherwise.

Have they sorted it out yet?! That's a huge whack to just take from you!

I worked yesterday and today and really shouldn't have. I've been incredibly short fused! 🙁And somehow being ill makes me even more desperate for an argument...not sure how it works!

@SpanielsGalore everyone thinks she's cute, because she is cute! 😃

To be fair, I've only watched Air Force One, Star Wars and Indiana Jones so I've never seen Blade Runner which I think most of the population have! 😳So far this week I've watched/had on in the background, all 9 Star Wars films 7-9 were as shocking as I remembered, all Indiana Jones' films, and I'm currently on Harry Potter film 1. Really hoping I perk up soon as the dogs are starting to stare at me instead of the TV...never a good sign

VanGoSunflowers · 24/07/2026 19:36

I was on hold to HMRC for an hour. I received my yearly bonus three months ago and for some reason, even though every pay I’ve had since then has been ‘normal’ they decided I was going to earn silly money this year and so taxed me accordingly. They’ve changed it back and I’ll get it back next month but not ideal with the summer holidays upon us.

On the plus side, not sure if the tax rage gave me a new lease of life but have just been able to take Pablo out for an hour! @TheHungryHungryLandsharks i know what you mean about wanting an argument, I had to try very hard to be polite to the HMRC call centre person. After all it wasn’t his fault! Hope you’re back to 100% soon.

@SpanielsGalore I think you’ve watched more HF films than me!

Silverbirchleaf · 24/07/2026 20:58

Confession time. I haven’t watched all the HP films either. I have been to the HP exhibition at Leavesden which was fascinating. One reason we went though, was because side dh used to work at the site when it was owned by Rolls Royce. At the time it had an airstrip and produced helicopter engines.

VanGoSunflowers · 25/07/2026 08:25

@Silverbirchleaf I have watched all the HP films more than I’d care to admit! I love the Leavesden tour. DS wants to go back there over the summer. I remember thinking even non HP fans would enjoy it.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 25/07/2026 10:29

@VanGoSunflowers it's odd, isn't it? I'm sure when you're sick you're meant to not want to argue...or do anything. 😂

That's really irritating timing for them to have taken that money!! But at least you'll get it back!

@Silverbirchleaf I have to say the helicopter engines would have interested me more! I love films, but TV type tours not so much - but that's mostly because I don't like people and crowds, so something like the Leavesden tour is not my idea of fun!

It's really hot here today. Garden was showing 22 at 09:00 which sounds about right. Satan has come over because my parents are taking DDs off somewhere exciting with DH, which was meant to give me some peace to try and get back to 100%...but Satan is being Satan. Tip tap tip tap on the stone floors. I know it'll sound a bit crazy, but I am 99.9% sure she is doing it on purpose as every time I look at her she's staring at me looking ridiculously pleased.

Silverbirchleaf · 25/07/2026 11:15

It’s not an organised tour as such, apart from a couple of presentations at the beginning. As I said, I’m not really into HP, but it’s fascinating in a ‘how films are made’ way, so you see the sets, special effects, stunts etc. .

VanGoSunflowers · 25/07/2026 11:56

I feel slightly more human today. Well, feels just like a normal average cold so this morning’s walk wasn’t an ordeal.

Does anyone else’s dog present their arsehole to you to request assistance in removing a blade of grass? Sweet and horrifying in equal measure.

SpanielsGalore · 25/07/2026 12:05

@VanGoSunflowers Yes. 😂 I take it as a sign of what a good bond we have and that they trust me enough to come and ask for help.
It's also the reason I keep vinyl gloves in my dog walking bag.

No Dog just squats on bum and does a bum shuffle trying to get it out.

SpanielsGalore · 26/07/2026 10:46

Morning All.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It's raining here. Hopefully it will help with the wildfire in the Cairngorms. We're being advised to keep windows and doors closed from this distance. I can't smell it here, but DS says Aberdeen is smokey.

Sunday weigh in and both dogs are at perfect weights. P is 12.4kg and K is 8.9kg.
I haven't weighed myself yet, but I can assure you it will be far from perfect. 😂

P met two labradors on her walk last night and had a run around with them, which is totally out of character for her. Unfortunately she was limping a bit afterwards, so I think we'll do a couple of days of on lead walks.

K is not impressed with her new coat, but I'm sure she'll get used to it. She's dry within 30 minutes and doesn't shiver for hours. And she looks very cosy, snuggled up in it after a walk.

I messed up ordering it in purple. I was so convinced it would be too big, I bought it in P's colour. She's always had purple leads, collars and harnesses. (She's named in honour of Prince, so it had to be purple. No, she's not called Princess.)

So now I have to choose a different colour for her or I'll always be getting mixed up as to whose is whose. I might message the company about sizing too. Her weight fits M, but her length is XL.

Silverbirchleaf · 26/07/2026 13:54

@SpanielsGalore Love that she was named after Prince.

Went over to Whitstable this morning and swam, well bobbed about, in the sea. It was lovely. Now sitting in the garden. Warmer than expected. Missed the rain that came earlier. According to a SE Water letter we received, we had no rain in July!

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 27/07/2026 10:08

@SpanielsGalore I hadn't even twigged there was a fire near you as the press has been so full of the reports about the Europe fires! Hope your DS and you (and Dogs) are okay!!!

I'm always so surprised by how tiny K is, even though I've seen photos of her!!

Ohhh bless P. I think labs just give off 'good vibes' like cockers and goldens tbh. Just happy dogs that couldn't have a bad bone if they tried.

@Silverbirchleaf I'm starting to wonder if it will ever rain again! Was meant to rain here yesterday but we got nothing, and the lawn isn't just brown...it's dead. One of my neighbours has been watering his lawn and it's so obvious that's what he's doing as his lawn is bright green compared to everyone elses!

Tippy Tappy Paws finally left at about 10pm last night. I think I have PTSD from her tippy-tapping.

Silverbirchleaf · 27/07/2026 11:35

I know I keep mentioning agility so here’s a quick snap I took this morning. Didn’t realise the ‘phone was on ‘portrait’ mode, hence background is slightly blurred. Dog waiting his turn and watching the others.

Beyond Adolescence - part 4
Silverbirchleaf · 27/07/2026 11:41

I feel guilty about watering the plants. I have been good and using washing up water for the pots in the back, but have been filling up watering cans for the front, but not watering that often ( which is why it’s looking pretty pathetic and not lush).

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 28/07/2026 08:34

@Silverbirchleaf DDog looks very interested and slightly impatient! I'm getting a sense he was thinking 'get out my way, I want a go.'

I've been watering my plants and refilling the bird bath as the birds/wildlife need it and the shade the plants provide is good for smaller things like hedgehogs as it keeps the ground cool on their pads...but definitely draw the line at watering my lawn!

My new parasol is arriving today - just in time to be set up for working in the garden in the hot weather! Very excited 😁

SpanielsGalore · 28/07/2026 12:53

@Silverbirchleaf My DD is named after Prince too. Fortunately she likes her name and its origin. And you'd need to be a superfan to get the connection, so no one comments on it.

@TheHungryHungryLandsharks The fire is about 50 miles from me and 30 miles from DS. It's amazing how far the smoke travels. It was off the coast of Norway yesterday.

I hope you enjoy sitting outside under your new parasol. I put one up for the dogs when we had some sun, but they all avoided it like the plague.

It's been raining here for the past few days, so I haven't needed to water anything. At least the grass is greening up a bit.

I'm taking P to the vets this afternoon. She's not weight bearing on her bad leg. She's not particularly limping when she walks, but when she stands still it's hovering above the floor.
