Ohhh @Bupster you must be missing Bill! Now I feel guilty for harassing for Bill photos (although he is soooo handsome). He's going to be so excited to see you, although it sounds a bit ambitious to be expecting any of your nose to be left after he's done with you tbh.

In that photo with his mum she looks so unimpressed. I wonder if all dog mums have that expression (because it's one I see on mine whenever they look at their offspring...). Do they have the same white area on their chest?! It looks like they do, but I can't be sure with the angles.

Bupster · 24/07/2025 18:28

Oh I know, @LandSharksAnonymous , that photo makes me crack up every time. You can see the thought bubble: I THOUGHT HE’D GONE. And his absolute piss-taking delight. It’s glorious.

you are right, I may need to invest in spare noses…

Oh my god - the poor mama dog, she looks so tiny beside her ginormous puppy 😧Good grief. I mean I realise this was a reunion of sorts, and he wasn't that size at birth, but she looks very petite.

Thanks @Bupster I would love to be a fly on the wall when he sees you. I imagine it will bring a whole new meaning to the term velcro dog 💞

SpanielsGalore · 24/07/2025 18:54

@Bupster You just be missing Bill so much. Wonder who will be the most excited at the reunion.
His mum is gorgeous. 💖

CoubousAndTourmalet · 24/07/2025 21:15

What would you think if you were asked on an initial phone call with a behaviourist, for the KC registered name of your dog so it could be checked out on the Kennel Club database? I thought it was okay, so I gave the name, but my partner is not happy about it. Trainer found it on KC website then asked for photos but hasn't been back in touch. Is this risky? Any thoughts?

Bupster · 24/07/2025 21:20

Not sure really @CoubousAndTourmalet It might make sense if different lines are notable for different behaviour, e.g. in gundogs a field trial champion might behave differently. Would breeding lines make a difference in herding dogs? I don’t think I’d be concerned by it, she might just be curious!

OP posts:
YorkshireFelix · 24/07/2025 21:30

I wouldn’t be concerned either and I am quite paranoid! I was thinking maybe since she’s so familiar with LGD’s she might know some of the breeders in her lineage or something like that? I am such a researcher and information collector so wouldn’t think it’s unusual but maybe that’s just me.

@Bupster lovely to see Bill’s squishy face. I bet you miss him loads!

SpanielsGalore · 24/07/2025 21:53

@CoubousAndTourmalet The gundog trainer I went to asked me about P's pedigree and I sent him a photo of her 5 generation certificate. It gave him an idea of what he could expect of her.
I think if you are experienced with a particular breed, you'd naturally ask what lines a dog comes from. Just to see if you know any relatives.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 24/07/2025 22:01

Thanks @Bupster @YorkshireFelix @SpanielsGalore

Hopefully it's okay then.
I just gave the details but my partner said afterwards he felt it odd. I'm sure it's fine and was just curiosity.

No I didn't get the impression she was clued up on PMD lines at all. It was very much like with the other trainer; "where on earth did you manage to get a purebred Pyrenean?". When he met Brie he admitted surprise because apparently a lot of people claim they have x or y breed but when he sees the dog it very obviously isn't that. Maybe this was her way of checking that also. I don't know.

I think a lot of guarding breeds do have indeterminate pedigrees and a risk of being reactive so that could possibly be a factor too. PMD is one of the Gentle Giant breeds compared to some guardian dogs.

Thanks for the reassurance anyway😊

brushingboots · 24/07/2025 22:02

@CoubousAndTourmalet on the puppy thread Van was saying that her trainer asked for P's details too. I don't think it's an issue. I'm (obviously) not a trainer and people's dogs' lines intrigue me as if you're familiar with a dog from a particular line it's interesting to look back at it – so if you're a professional I can see why it would help.

Thanks. Oddly enough I've just seen that post on the puppy thread, but when I asked the question I hadn't. I guess with working gundog lines I could understand it more, as it's relevant to the training.

Maybe the breed is important with LGD. Pyreneans are definitely more benign temperament wise than Kangal, Ovcharka etc. so perhaps it makes a difference with the behavioural aspect of the work.

But yeah, clearly it's perfectly normal and my chap is just having a bit of paranoia.

Sorry to be pedantic 😳but they're not a herding dog. The herding is done by a little shaggy dog called a Pyrenean Sheepdog. The big ones need to lack the instinct to chase, it's vital, because they are left unattended with livestock from a young age. None of the LGD are herders, they only guard. It's really all they know. Guarding cats, birds and hedgehogs in Brie's case.

Much as I love having wildlife in the garden, I'll be glad when the two local hedgehogs go into hibernation and I get a break from standing outside in my pyjamas at 3am while Brie is on hogwatch 🙄

I hope you have a safe journey home to your darling squishy boy 🤗

@CoubousAndTourmalet I think normal!

@Bupster it’s B-Day! I’ll be thinking of your nose and Bill and eagerly awaiting B-updates tomorrow (I’ll give your nose an evening to recover) 😁

I was thinking last night that it’s probably a mark of what a terrible wife I am that I can go months not seeing DH, but the thought of not seeing the dogs for more than a few days makes me teary eyed 😂I’ll kid myself it’s because I can WhatsApp DH and dogs don’t have opposable thumbs

Separately, @SpanielsGalore https://www.sgrr.org.uk/rehoming-adoptions/dogs-needing-homes.html

I am starting to think there’s something in Twatdogs sire that results in his looks being particularly strong in his offspring, because if that dog is not a half-brother of twatdog I’ll be very surprised!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 25/07/2025 06:59

Okay, thanks @LandSharksAnonymous
I shall reassure my partner.
Brie is very much a Daddy's girl these days 🙄

SpanielsGalore · 25/07/2025 09:50

@LandSharksAnonymous Oh look at his little face. 🥰 Needs to be an only dog though. Wonder if they'd take 3 spaniels in exchange. 🤔😂
If the write up is true, he sounds like a typical young, boisterous dog.

LandSharksAnonymous · 25/07/2025 09:53

@SpanielsGalore yep, that’s what I thought! Bought by someone who thought they were getting the sort of Goldie you see videos of on YouTube who didn’t realise it doesn’t really work like that…

Oh you wouldn’t get rid of your rabble for him! Although he is very tempting😍He’s a handsome blighter though and I’m sure he will find a good home. But I did nearly keel over in shock, in one of the photos he looks so similar to twatdog I thought it was him for a moment…

Stare Staring GIF

Has anyone else ever had a conversation with someone, about dog ownership, that left you half horrified and half blinking dumbly at them.

Just got back from a walk where someone asked me about the girls, and I explained they were relatives (great-grandma, grandma and mum of my current breeding girl who was at home with a litter + twatface who is her son), and they said to me ‘so is he the father of your latest litter? That must make it easy.’

When I said ‘no, he’s her son so he wouldn’t be the father of the current litter’ they just looked a bit surprised.

I’ve met some odd ducks in my time (the perils of dog ownership, I guess - lots of odd ducks who ask odd questions), but never someone who genuinely seemed surprised that dog incest was not a thing.

YorkshireFelix · 25/07/2025 17:18

@LandSharksAnonymous what on earth 😂😂😂😂😂😂

@YorkshireFelix Same! Every single day! Strongly recommend a bottle of mane and tail conditioner and a fine comb. And also some acceptance that you may not get every single one of them out at once and that you will be picking them out of his fur every day, without fail, until winter comes and the seeds are replaced with mud globules. I sit on the sofa fiddling with pupsy of an evening to get them out – it's quite therapeutic.

LandSharksAnonymous · 25/07/2025 17:27

@YorkshireFelix I was genuinely dumbstruck. It took several moments for me to process!

What happened to V?! How is it only on his ears but not his head 😂did he just drag one ear through it then the other?!

YorkshireFelix · 25/07/2025 17:33

He’s never had them this bad before! We went down to the field and he shot after a cat over the other side and disappeared into the undergrowth for ages… His ears are so fine and fluffy compared to the rest of his coat so maybe that’s why. It makes me feel sick when they are all clustered together like that for some reason 🤢

YorkshireFelix · 25/07/2025 18:01

@brushingboots weirdly I was looking at that somewhere recently and couldn’t remember why it had jumped out at me and know I know why!! Should have bought some!

CoubousAndTourmalet · 25/07/2025 23:12

Oh poor Vinny! I hope you got it all out @YorkshireFelix
