All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Pic of the handsome prick in question.

Your house must feel quiet and empty. Fingers crossed for the best boy to be home soon.

Pashazade · 12/10/2025 18:38

Oh Hanging I’m sorry to hear this, keep everything crossed for a speedy recovery.

FeralWoman · 12/10/2025 19:17

Are they going to X-ray or scan him to check for any blockages?

HangingOver · 13/10/2025 06:52

I think they were just watching for the time being. He said no news is good news and he's ringing at 7am-ish. So naturally I woke up at 4.30.

Hope everything's OK. Thinking of you and Pod. x

FeralWoman · 13/10/2025 08:14

Any update yet? I hope Pod managed to get some sleep. Poor boy. I’m guessing that the house is far too quiet and a bit empty without him.

MaxandMoritz · 13/10/2025 08:36

Hope the vet has been in touch and Pod has had a good night.

So many of the distressing things that happen to our dogs are caused by thoughtless( or worse) humans.

My hound had stomach surgery to remove a plastic ball she'd swallowed at a secure field where, in spite of reminders, some owners don't bother to remove their dogs' toys.

She also had to have her stomach emptied by the emergency vet when she overdosed on her deliciously flavoured thyroid pills. The thoughtless human in this case was me😧when I left a new pack within her reach and went out for a couple of hours.

Pod's is less clear cut. Really hope he's on the mend.

spiderlight · 13/10/2025 09:28

Oh God - only just catching up with this. I hope you get good news soon. Poor lamb.

HangingOver · 13/10/2025 18:44

Pod is home! And he's eating his dinner. So happy 😁

Scampuss · 13/10/2025 18:46

Fabulous news.

FeralWoman · 13/10/2025 18:50

That’s great news! What was wrong with him? Infection or blockage that naturally passed or something else?

He’s a bit of a worry isn’t he?

HangingOver · 13/10/2025 18:52

To quote the fabulous camp vet: we had a meeting, and we think it's because he ate shit

rainbowruthie · 13/10/2025 18:54

Yay! Such good news

Ellmau · 13/10/2025 18:55

Bad Pod. Glad he's home, and hope, but somehow doubt, he's learnt his lesson re the poo eating :)

HangingOver · 13/10/2025 19:16

He's had his biscuits, done a poo and is now absolutely sparko

Brilliant clinical judgement Grin

spiderlight · 13/10/2025 20:00

Yay - so glad he's ok! Your vet sounds brilliant 😆

mydogisthebest · 13/10/2025 20:04

So pleased to hear Pod is ok.

eggandonion · 13/10/2025 20:27

I hope the vet advised him strongly not to do that again.
I'm glad he's safe home.

Pashazade · 13/10/2025 20:56

Hurrah! Glad he’s home.

NotISaidTheCat · 14/10/2025 08:58

Lovely Pod! So glad he's home.

You know, I bet the vets see loads of dogs who they barely remember from visit to visit.

I don't think Pod is one of those dogs. 🤣

HangingOver · 15/10/2025 16:40

Bad news.

He was perfectly alright yesterday, totally his old self. Overnight he went downhill stopped eating and drinking and I phoned the vets today. Once we got there he was totally fine, all happy and waggy and cadging treats off the staff. I went in and said sorry for wasting your time but he's suddenly happy and hungry again. The vet felt his tummy and then took him away for a bit. His two colleagues and him all agreed they can now feel something. They did a rectalexam and there was blood. He's been admitted for an urgent CT and possibly surgery if needed. I'm in absolute bits.

Poor old sausage and poor you. I hope he's just blocked up by a baby wipe. He seemed to be doing so well.

MaxandMoritz · 15/10/2025 17:04

Oh no! The two of you have really been through the mill.

Hope all's well soon.
