All aboard Podsquad, it's Pod thread number 4.

In case you were wondering:

  • What is this (surprisingly) long-running thread about? A unique lunatic rescue Podenco, known as Pod. Featuring his pals, Stanley, GentleHowl, BabyPod, GentleBounce, Fastest and Princess and many more.
  • What makes you so special that you get your own thread? See above

Seriously, if anyone is considering getting a teenage/rescued/sight-hound/Podenco/all of the above and has NO idea what they're doing, please enjoy the previous instalments from the day we brought him home, to now, six months later. Posts will oscillate wildly from euphoric to mental breakdown and back again.

Here is thread No. 3 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5248472-they-love-a-bit-of-him-podlife?page=1

Here is thread No. 2 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5197068-the-pod-cast?page=39&reply=141216881

And thread No. 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/thedoghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Pic of the handsome prick in question.

Oh, gross gross gross! I had to fish a human turd out of our old dog's mouth a few years ago - he was on a very strict diet for pancreatitis, so when I saw him pick something up, I had to remove it instantly. When I saw/smelt what it was, I was spectacularly sick in the bushes, and I have carried anti-bac wipes in my dog walking bag ever since. I had to go home with my hand out of the car window (passenger, luckily!).

I literally retched about every ten seconds til i got home, I couldn't help it it was totally automatic

Fortunately, second hand rug. Which was binned with much haste.

FeralWoman · 09/10/2025 13:55

How’s the hand today @HangingOver? Back to smelling normal or still contemplating amputation?

@WiddlinDiddlin That was a small mercy.

DancingFerret · 09/10/2025 17:12

We brought our boat over to Yarmouth to take advantage of this lovely Indian Summer weather and I've just met a Podenco in real life - a lovely red girl called Anna strolling along the marina wall with her owner. He was really impressed when I asked if she was a Podenco.😅

So the Forbidden Snack hasn't gone down well.

He's been pooping water every couple of hours since yesterday and he vomited 5 times during the night. Not in handy puddles either, more like walking and vomming a line of slime all through the downstairs of the house. Urgh.

He's had an anti sickness jab and has some special paste.

Seems surprisingly chipper under the circs.

Oh yuck. That’s gross. Maybe he’ll remember that for the next time he thinks a human turd is a snack. Probably not though. I hope that the injection helps him.

Ellmau · 10/10/2025 19:55

Poor Pod, and poor you.

Ellmau · 10/10/2025 21:01

I've just had a horrible thought - if it was a homeless person's poo, might it have had drugs in it and that might be what's made Pod sick?

HangingOver · 12/10/2025 12:37

We're off to the emergency. They say they might need to admit him at this stage as he's stopped eating and drinking and still pooping water. He's not vomiting but not for lack of trying, he must have eaten so much grass by now.

Oh no, all fingers crossed xx

Sending lots of love and good wishes to you both and Pod. Let us know how he is when you can.

FeralWoman · 12/10/2025 13:34

Oh no. I hope that some fluids via IV will help him feel better.

I wonder if maybe he did accidentally ingest some illegal drugs?

WiddlinDiddlin · 12/10/2025 14:32

Oh no... Podface! Fingers and toes x'd!

LadyGrillingSole · 12/10/2025 14:36

Oh no, Hanging, your poor boy!

Sending love and recovery vibes.

Ellmau · 12/10/2025 14:49

Oh no, fingers crossed for you.

HangingOver · 12/10/2025 14:51

He's been admitted for fluid, bloods and pain relief. They said they see how he is and he may need a CT to check the wet wipes or whatever it was haven't cause a blockage in his tummy.

I'm so tired and worried 😢

eggandonion · 12/10/2025 16:49

BruceLeTerror · 12/10/2025 17:09

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 12/10/2025 17:10

Sending get well thoughts for Pod and hugs for you.

HangingOver · 12/10/2025 17:39

The lovely vet rang and said his blood work looks ok (apart from the slightly raised white count that always shows on his bloods) but he's still vomiting so they'll probably keep him in a couple of days. He's had lots of fluids and paracetamol.

Ellmau · 12/10/2025 17:50

That sounds like good news. I hope he feels better soon.
