So I’m a man. I live with my little French bulldog who is my absolute world. He’s 6 years old. From a puppy he’s always slept on my bed and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So I met a girl. We get on great but unfortunately she thinks dogs shouldn’t be allowed on the furniture or sleep on the bed. We haven’t spent a night together as I won’t leave my dog to stay at hers and she won’t sleep at mine because my dog sleeps with me. I can’t see this relationship going anywhere and she says I’m being unreasonable putting my dog before her needs. I’ll always put my dog before any relationship. AIBU?

@tollouse I don't really care/mind if people have their doggos in the bedroom at night, but I just wouldn't like it as I would be worried about getting disturbed/having my sleep fractured. I had my cat in there when she was much younger, and she was a pain in the arse! 😆 Climbing all over me and DH at 6am. Like feck off pussington, I'm tryna sleeeeeeeeeep!..

Well, I didn't purposely set a low bar. All of the above described folk seemed fine at first.

And yes IME if there's a dog in the room and you have sex they tend to leave.

But I also think it is a bit odd to be bothered about a dog seeing you have sex..I doubt they'd be traumatised by it or hold it against you.

I still wouldn't want an animal watching me though. I'd get stage fright! 😂

🤣🤣I guess I must get a bit more carried away!
They've never watched IME, just continue to sleep or go out of the room🤣

We are built to deal with each other’s germs. We also wipe our arses and cover them for bed

Some people just can't wipe properly. Skid marks. On sheets. In underpants. Wiping doesn't clean properly yet most people only wipe after a poo when really, it needs a wash. There will always be some left behind. Sweet dreams Grin

My ex shat the bed after a boozy night out.
I am pretty sure there is some famous MN thread about "poo crumbs".

I don't understand this either.
If a child or pet for example got poo on a surface you'd not just wipe with a dry cloth or tissue, you'd actually clean it?
Getting 'caught short' is inevitable sometimes but for the most part if I've had a poo I'll shower or wash.
Some folk seem to think it is fine to walk about with clinkers.

Haha I remember that thread! 'DH's poo crumbs'!

Shat himself after a boozy night out?!

I'm not afraid to admit I like my wine, I've drank far too much more than once but never have I even come close to sh1tting myself!

To be fair, he was absolutely mortified. It was one of those things that we never spoke about again.

Your gf is right, I wouldn’t even live with a dog in the house. I can smell them and some are a nuisance.

I agree. I couldn't live around a dog either. Smell makes me gag

BatchCookBabe · 02/04/2025 22:55

If I never hear the phrase 'poo crumbs' again it will be too soon! 😬

You are being unreasonable purely for calling your dog a fur baby!

My partners have to want to be around dogs as I compete work and spend a lot of time with dogs.

Wow. This post morphed into something unexpected.

It's not really about the dog per se, it's about having shared interests and working out where you're prepared to compromise. If your dog is as important to you as it sounds, then you need to find a partner who shares that passion, or who loves you for it and can live with it. Being an animal lover was certainly high on my list of desirable qualities, or certainly someone who really got it. Remember my grandmother saying that to me! Based on what you've said here, I'd say your mismatched...

There are lots of dog obsessive son this site, but most people will not date a man who expects the dog to sleep in the same bed as them. Most people won’t date someone whose pet will forever be more important to them.

In your opinion, how do you think you know what 'most' people will think or do??

Clue: you don't

I am 100% on your side. As a matter of fact, you can come over to my house and spend the night with your Frenchie at my house if you want! 😆 I have a Frenchie too that also sleeps with me and will never not be allowed to sleep in my bed. Any man who doesn’t like that or has issues with that can go date someone else. And I’ll take it a step further, if he wants me to stay the night at his house AND doesn’t allow my dog to be in his bed too he can find a new girl to bring over.

I don't mind dogs but I would certainly be completely put off a man that used "furbaby" for a dog (or a man who posted on Mumsnet)

Or someone who must be that bored they're strolling through threads that are nearly a year old.

There will, of course, be some women saying men are welcome. There always is. Sigh.

PS Did you know there is a Dadsnet?

Not everyone on here is a mum. I am not.
This board is about dogs. OP being a man is irrelevant. And it is not AIBU and the place to bitch about such things either.

@Skates is there an update to your situation? Are you still seeing this girl? Did she warm to your dog in the end?
