Could I name my puppy Simon?

We're getting a lab puppy in June and my 3yo DD is adamant that he's going to be called Simon. Grin

After discounting it for being ridiculous it's starting to grow on us...

We love human names for pets but is Simon a step too far?!

Love it! My friends dog is called Colin which has a similar vibe 🙂

<approving woof>

My 3 year old named her cuddly dog toy Alan. No idea why, but it suits him.

Simon will be a brilliant Labrador

Sorry for the lack of photo, the puppies aren't born yet!

I will of course update the thread when Simon is here Grin

I really look forward to that. Labs are the best!

Welcome little Simon when you get here 🐾🐾🐾 new BFF for DS

jazzyrockyblues · 23/02/2025 13:13

I love it! I had a hamster called Ian as a kid.

Radionowhere · 23/02/2025 13:14

Do it!

My friend's kid had a goldfish called Brian for a while 😆

WildCherryBlossom · 23/02/2025 13:21

Definitely not Bruno. I've met so many labs called Bruno (usually chocolate labs).

Stick with Simon!

Marlaysydney12 · 23/02/2025 13:21

We have a chunky yellow lab called Sydney. Colin is great!

Duh I misread your post as your dog WAS born in June.

I shall wait patiently for Simon's photos.

<wag, wag>

Wbeksk · 23/02/2025 13:24

It’s a nice name and has a good sound for a puppy to hear and recognise.

OrangeYaGlad · 23/02/2025 13:25

I don't get why it would ever be ridiculous

1AnotherOne · 23/02/2025 13:26

Definitely! I love ‘boring’ human names for dogs. Mines called Doris and everyone always delights in it.

YesImawitch · 23/02/2025 13:26

MarshmallowClouds · 23/02/2025 12:17

And bizarrely, I was just reading an old news report from the 1980s, and the witness referred to their dog, Simon.

One of my school friends had a dog called Simon
What breed was it?

It didn’t say

JaneAustensKitty · 23/02/2025 13:28

My cat is called Kevin, so I’d say go for it.

Greenwallpinkwall · 23/02/2025 13:28

Simon is so great 😂❤️

intrepidgiraffe · 23/02/2025 13:29

Love it - very distinguished

sometimesmovingforwards · 23/02/2025 13:31

Go for it!
My friends dog is called Geoff.
If his name is queried by others she simply confirms it’s spelt with a G not a J.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 23/02/2025 13:31

Love it and it’s better than your other suggestions, sorry 😂. Well done DS and congratulations on your puppy, labs are the best 🥰.

EatingHealthy · 23/02/2025 13:31

I don't personally like human names for pets. But it's certainly the current fashion and Simon is no worse/better than any other.

Snowmanscarf · 23/02/2025 13:33

I m at a lab called Ian once. Bests all the Teddies, Lunas and Bellas out there.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 23/02/2025 13:38

Love it. I met a pug called Dave the other day. Really liked it.

Katieweasel · 23/02/2025 13:57

My cat is called Mary. My boss actually thought she was my daughter for the first six months after he started.

Hoppinggreen · 23/02/2025 13:58

Please do
My brother had a dog called Robert

spiderlight · 23/02/2025 13:59

Do it! DH's uncle had a dog called Simon. He was quite the character, apparently. When DH was younger, he tried to take him for a walk - the dog pulled him all the way to the local pub and the landlord said 'You can come in but that dog's barred!'
