Hand hold please. Our lovely girl was hit tonight when we were crossing a road and her leg is not salvageable.
It was obvious straight away that the leg would not survive.
The vets are going to operate tomorrow when she is hopefully fully stabilised.

I’ve just come to bed to try and sleep but am just lying here thinking her legs been ripped off over and over in my mind.

I know long term she will manage as long as she recovers well but my poor girl.

Glad to hear that Luna is doing well (bar her poorly paw, hope that gets better soon!) She is so beautiful 😍

Alliscalmallisnotbright · 10/02/2025 19:04

Wee pet. Hope her paw is doing ok. I keep sudocreme in a tube for when our lab gets little cuts and things on his ear . The other thing you can get is a spray plaster . The vet told me I could get it on Amazon. I used a human one recently , was very handy but I don’t know if it’s pet friendly. It’s the Superdrug one. Might be better getting a dog specific one just incase there’s something funny in it

SnowSnow · 12/02/2025 13:04

We now have a boot for her. I asked on a local dog WhatsApp for any recommendations and a friend on there kindly offered us one she had and when it didn’t quite fit it turned out her mum had some in different sizes and one of them fits.

Her paw had improved an bit anyway which is great. She wore the boot just now for her 5 min walk and it has gone raw again despite having it on but is a smaller area so it’s definitely on the mend and the boot also kept it clean.

The vet said from the pic we sent it doesn’t look infected but we could try padding or a boot. She said it isn’t a must but will heal quicker with a boot or padding so it’s good to know we are doing the right thing.

Oh, I've just read this and am so glad she's healing. How scary!

I just wanted to say that in my recent experience with a foot issue, if you're going to use a boot, it's a good idea to use a baby sock inside, as the boots themselves can rub. We tried a sock in the house, but that came off almost instantly and I didn't want to add a swallowed sock to our issues!

SnowSnow · 12/02/2025 13:30

Thank you, we have a random baby sock that came with some second hand clothes with no second half of the pair so have grabbed that out for her. For some reason I washed it anyway with all the other second hand stuff so that’s worked out 😊

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 14/02/2025 12:23

As I guess that is a photo of the side where she was hurt, oh my goodness I didn't expect her to look so good so soon. Wonderful !

and maybe that ransom baby sock was meant to be ?

wandawaves · 14/02/2025 13:25

Wow, she is just gorgeous - so pleased she is recovering well😁

Our girly is all healed with just the sore paw remaining. This should be healed within a week. The vet is very pleased with her and she doesn’t need to go back.

We’ve got the forms for hydro done which I will email off and we also have a plan for how to build up her walks as well. The vet said we need to follow her lead as we might end up with her being too tired and having to try and carry her back if we do too much too soon.

She’s done well with her weight loss and lost 3.6kg in the last 3 weeks. I wasn’t sure if that was too fast but the vet is happy. Another 3.3kg to get to the weight they recommend we aim for now. We will probably nip in to weigh her in another few weeks just to see how we are doing with it.

Overall a very good place to be in less than 4 weeks after the accident.

Thanks so much again to everyone who has taken the time to post on the thread over the last few weeks 😊

Thank you for the update. So pleased she’s on the mend now and been discharged from vet follow up. It’s been an awful time for Luna and your family. When our beloved pet family members are hurting, we feel it too. She is a lucky girl she has a loving family to support her through this terrible accident.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 18/02/2025 16:18

aw I am so pleased it has all turned out ok.

it feels like you and Luna are saying Good bye to us, and yes that makes sense,
but

if you get the chance, and if she does like it

could ' we ' have a photo of her at hydrotherapy ?

BruceLeTerror · 18/02/2025 16:28

That's fantastic news! What great healing time - she's obviously well loved 💖💖💖

I think I’ll probably post updates as she works her way up exercise wise and starts her hydrotherapy and then when she finally gets to go off lead in 6ish weeks.

Will definitely try and get some photos of her hopefully enjoying the hydrotherapy and post them here 😊

Thank you so much for the update. I can't believe how far she has come since her accident, it's amazing really. Looking forward to the hydrotherapy pictures, hope she enjoys it!

Floralnomad · 18/02/2025 20:02

It would be lovely if you could update now and then . How are you , your husband and your friend recovering ? It’s amazing really how well she has done .

spiderlight · 18/02/2025 21:44

I'm delighted that she's doing so well. Please do keep us updated 💕

SnowSnow · 24/02/2025 11:19

Luna’s paw is improving so much. I’ll post two pics one from today and one from two weeks ago.

She’s also a bit more herself now. She has started bounding in to the kitchen when we get her meals and she nicked my slipper that I had left on the floor the other day briefly.

She starts hydro Thursday next week. I’m hoping she will enjoy it as she’s always loved the river.

Walks wise we are probably doing between 5 and 10 minutes. We are taking her lead and sometimes she just does her business and wants to come straight home. We haven’t actually made it out of our road yet as we have grassy lanes for access behind the houses that she is wanting to just do a loop of one or two of them. It will come though. And we may at some point drive her somewhere else for a different 10min walk.

Her paw is looking great.

I hope she continues to go from strength to strength and that no slipper in your house will be safe!

Floralnomad · 24/02/2025 11:48

That paw looks much better , hope she enjoys her hydrotherapy .

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 24/02/2025 18:17

oh yes - what a difference in the 2 photos.
