I've buckled and started the new thread - welcome to the horror of adolescence!

morning!
aww @CaptainBeanThief i'm sorry to here about Milo's diagnosis. How is he doing?
@YorkshireFelix any success with sleep yet? we've not long since removed the crate but kept his bed in the kitchen with the safety gate closed on a night like we did while he was in his crate, which room does V usually sleep in (before the problem started).

After our encounter with horrible man the other day i've gone back to using the longline so i can keep control of him, our longline is a 5m one but sometimes feels a bit short? What length do you all use?

We have a 5m longline too and feel it's a bit short! I was thinking of getting a 10m instead? I got an advert for some waterproof ones which have ridges in that looked good but I can't find where they were from now!

Sleep still bad. He used to sleep in the living room and had also slept outside of his crate with free roam of the living room and kitchen with no issues. Our house is very small so there's not many places we can put him 😄 We are going to try having him upstairs again tonight...

So we have Milo who is a lunatic in sunglasses followed by Vinnie sat, being a good boy 🙄
We can tell who is the better owner 🤭🤣🤣❤️

YorkshireFelix · 27/02/2025 15:08

An old lady said he was a well trained dog earlier and I said you've caught him at an extremely rare moment 😂

Bupster · 27/02/2025 15:27

I envy both of you, almost all of my pictures of Bill he's asleep as that's the only time the little sod sits still.

I have a waterproof 10m long line and I've tied knots in it so it's not too slippery to put a foot on. But I have recently dug out the 5m one too - really handy when I want to give him more freedom than a short lead but 10m is too unwieldy or the place I'm going is too busy. It let me take him to the dog park even when he was being an Angry Young Man (which thankfully appears to be a phase that's now fading).

I’ve got a 10m (with knots) and a 5m. I don’t like using the long line- I’ve been pulled over too many times. I tore something in my shoulder in the Autumn when husband insisted on taking a rugby ball out and didn’t tell me when he was about to kick it. I was looking one way and the dog set off the other way at full speed. My wrist was in the hand loop and dog was too quick for me to get my hand out.

Midge’s sudden pulling towards a smell is no good for my shoulder. Yesterday I had a revelation and put his double ended lead around my waist. I don’t know if it was because I wasn’t putting tension on it (any tension was him pulling) but after a while he just trotted by me with a loose lead. I’ve been practising his ‘go sniff’ command and that’s starting to help I think.

No sun for me today- I’ve been working all day.

Oh that sounds like a very successful walk! Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury. I can imagine that is painful as I get a sore shoulder from V pulling without being injured.

YorkshireFelix · 27/02/2025 17:28

Question for boy dog owners - do yours all now cock their leg to pee? I remember Bill started doing it a while ago as @Bupster proudly posted about it 😄

Vinny gets a pissy belly all the time from his pee but I don't know if cocking his leg would even solve that. I think I saw him kind of doing it the other day then DH mentioned it too out of the blue but he wasn't sure and neither was I!

CaptainBeanThief · 27/02/2025 17:35

@YorkshireFelix
Milo started half cocking at 10/11 months.
He still does a mix of sitting and cocking at 20 months and even when he cocks he can piss on himself abit
Oh, also if he goes back to the same bush and puts his head under it... His piss drips on his head..
Dogs are disgusting 🤣

Nella68 · 27/02/2025 17:37

Midge was 10 months ish. It has helped with the wee tangles!

He’s also cocked his leg to have a poo a couple of times. I think it surprised him!

tizwozliz · 27/02/2025 17:38

My older female started cocking her leg to pee at about 2 - not in the garden though just marking wees, up lamp posts and tufts of grass and the like (and once on someone else's wee in pets at home!) Usually accompanied by me saying "you're such a lady" 😂

Nella68 · 27/02/2025 17:39

Midge will still squat 1st thing in the morning when he has a really full bladder

CaptainBeanThief · 27/02/2025 17:41

@Nella68
I can just imagine poo firing out whilst midge is cocking his leg up
🤣🤣🤣

CaptainBeanThief · 27/02/2025 17:42

Giving me the eyes
"Why haven't I had a really long run this week mum"
🥺

Yes, it didn’t quite work!

YorkshireFelix · 27/02/2025 18:00

Cocking for a poo 😂

Ok he's 9 months next week so maybe it will happen within the next couple of months? I know some just carry on squatting!

brushingboots · 27/02/2025 18:19

All of this confirms why I wanted a bitch!

Nella68 · 27/02/2025 18:26

Vent time- I’m a bit (rather) annoyed with my husband. We have a holiday to France booked in August on the understanding that his sister would look after the dog (she had offered as long as she was free). Turns out he hadn’t got round to confirming the dates with his sister so now she’s away too.

I now need to find a kennel with space. The good ones seem to be booked up ages in advance. I booked our holiday in October so would have had plenty of time to book kennels… if only he had spoken to his sister!

CaptainBeanThief · 27/02/2025 18:28

@Nella68
Leave your husband at home with midge and take a friend, he deserves the punishment 😁

Nella68 · 27/02/2025 18:41

@CaptainBeanThief I’m tempted! If only I could drive the camper van!

CaptainBeanThief · 27/02/2025 18:45

@Nella68 I can, I will come 🤣🤣🤣🤣

YorkshireFelix · 27/02/2025 18:54

@Nella68 that is so frustrating! I know it's a similar situation with kennels etc around here too. You have to book very far in advance.
