Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

Amazing!

My Facebook memories have reminded me that I used TTouch ear slides one year on 5 November and doggo stayed relaxed through all the bangs and flashes. They are very easy to do (if you get the chance) and well worth having in your repertoire. Video here - floppy ear dog followed by sticky up ear dog.

Alright, which one of you snuck into my house overnight, body snatched my dickhead puppy and replaced him with a beautiful family pet?

He’s just keeping you on your toes & guessing @HangingOver

HangingOver · 05/11/2024 18:49

We've had a lovely day ☺️ He slept about four times, played nicely and walked well. He's got a new bed (one of those raised things so he can't eat it) which he seems to really like because he's in the middle of everything and can watch us doing things.

His Roolo also came which he's really enjoying biffing around the room.

He's even had two escorted trips into the living room for sits and treats and BARELY ate any furnishings.

Here he is watching DP cook and chewing his bone. What a little star he is.

Houseguest has gone. My shoulders are no long up round my ears.

What a good Pod!

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 05/11/2024 19:40

Do all Pods have those ears or are they yet another sign that Pod is very very special?

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/11/2024 19:40

Oh wow, a great day then... barely eating the furniture is excellent progress and hurrah for the exit of the Overlooked Guest!

The House of Widdlin' is experiencing heavy chaos from fireworks, we've got every puzzle toy and lickable toy out so that the Stick Dog, Long Wheelbase Dog and the Ancient One remain OK about fireworks (so far so good!!)...

House of Widdlin' lives up to it's name though as the Ancient One got a bit confused and turned left instead of right and soon as he felt a hard cold surface under (newly shorn and non floofy) paws... thought 'I have arrived on the concrete' and so... widdled. Only he was actually on the tiles. Ooopsy.

Obviously hearing me squawk, he took off at a fast stomp for a blind wobbly one and widdled as he went... so there's wee on the Ruggable and a throw rug too. Lovely, if only I'd just kept my gob shut!

HangingOver · 05/11/2024 19:59

@WiddlinDiddlin can we have a labelled picture of all three please, I need it for my imagination

How big is Pod? He looks huge in that photo!

He's fooking massive and he's still growing. I just measured him and his 68cm

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/11/2024 20:14

I don't know if I have any non-outing pics... one is a Tibetan Terrier (black), one a Saluki (black and tan) and one a Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen (brown n white)... I think you can probably imagine. They share a tiny handful of working braincells between them, but are generally on the side of chaotic good... ish.

HangingOver · 05/11/2024 20:26

His are extra special. Ive examined pics of other pods and his are extra big.

Pod has migrated from the new bed to the box it came in.

Does he have a lovely ikea bag, they are very desirable.

OldSpeclkledHen · 05/11/2024 21:01

Oh love him! Two for the price of one!

Dog ownership is freaking hard! (Don't need to tell you that! Just stop beating yourself up) I'm 15 months into my first dog (rescue- my littlest hobo ❤️ for those of us old enough to remember that!) and it has been the most massive learning curve (and I still stress am I doing this right/is he happy)
He is a total knob, but when he falls asleep on me (and all the other dog things that make me laugh every day )- my heart just melts❤️

You are doing a great job, you worry about doing it wrong because you care, but your boy is very lucky to have found you

I've got a feeling that Pod thinks that the OP is lucky to have him grace their company

Ellmau · 05/11/2024 21:53

What a good boy he's been today!

I love the picture of a Pod In A Box.

Pixiedust1234 · 05/11/2024 21:53

Widdlin - I had to look up Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen and for some strange reason I was expecting something similar in size to a Great Dane. I kept looking at picture to text back to picture then text 😂

Hanging - are you sure he isn't part cat? Possibly an Oriental Shorthair due to those ears...

WiddlinDiddlin · 06/11/2024 06:46

@Pixiedust1234 Most people do, I am now used to people either glazing over when I say it out loud or assuming I've made the breed up!

It directly translates to Large Low Hairy, from the Vendee region of France (there are several other versions of the Griffon hound types all with equally snappy names to denote leg length, coat colour and region of origin.) They're the more 'all terrain, armoured' version of a working Basset hound... not that mine could work his way out of a paper bag. He will do most things for a cheeseburger or a nap in the people-bed though!

All sighthounds are part cat btw. Particularly the way they defy gravity and do random levitation.

Pashazade · 06/11/2024 08:56

@WiddlinDiddlin I've learnt to be very quiet and still when I hear the cat starting to throw up. It's much easier to clean when there isn't a trail and if I'm lucky he's stuck to the wipeable floors. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Pixiedust1234 · 06/11/2024 13:11

The stupid part is I know what a Basset looks like but my brain hones in on Grand Griffin and I think oooooohhhh, cross between a phoenix and a lion, they are both massive!! 🙄

Ummm... welcome back Hanging??

HangingOver · 06/11/2024 13:12

Pod has done a shit in the garden that I can't find, but it's clearly in the flight-path of his usually Zoomie loop as he's got shit on me twice today (entire change of clothes needed). Hurrumph.

I don't think he's feeling that well actually as his poop was liquid this morning.

One thing I'm struggling with a bit is in the last week he seems to have gone off his usual chews. Like to begin with he really liked buffalo ears, cow head skin, pizzles, bull tails etc. He'd tried a few different ones over the days and they keep him happy for a good hour and he revisits them til they're gone.

So obviously I've bought some multipacks of things he likes to deploy at strategic moments when I need to do Teams calls for work. Anyway, now he's decided he doesn't like any of them. He takes them off me, all excited, drops them, wuffs at them, runs around the garden with them... but he doesn't actually eat them. I'm going to try removing the rejected ones and putting them away, and trying again when he's in a different mood but it's quite weird...? Maybe his starvation mode is wearing off and he's now choosing to be more selective. Stuffed Kongs still having the correct effect, thank god, or I'd have lost my job.

LadyGrillingSole · 06/11/2024 13:24

I don't know if this applies to Pod, but if my hounds get too many treats they're guaranteed to get the squits 😟

Would more carrots be acceptable to your boy?

HangingOver · 06/11/2024 13:32

Carrots have gone the same way, sadly. First couple he absolutely loved, now not interested.

Summat stuck in teefs or poorly tummy?

Jet wash the flight path/race track in the hopes of eliminating the rogue turd?

Hope it rains?

Fingers x you are shitcident free from now on!

@Pashazade ... and i KNOW this and yet... duh! @Pixiedust1234 Long Wheelbase Dog says 'yes! I am cross between lion and pheonix... and huuuuuuuge... roar... etc'. But then yesterday he agreed he was a fish to try and get me to feed him fish flakes. I take what he says with a pinch of salt.

Pixiedust1234 · 06/11/2024 16:38

But then yesterday he agreed he was a fish to try and get me to feed him fish flakes.
😂😂😂

I agree about checking his teeth in case of a sore gum or something caused by nawing on something hard. His brain might be saying yum yum but his mouth is saying no no. My mouth/tummy and brain constantly have fights, I don't see why dogs can't either. Not sure if that raises dogs up to human level or me down to a dogs level though...
