Hello PodSquad,

Thank you for being on this crazy ride with us.

Here's the OG thread if anyone wants to go back and laugh at how staggeringly naive I was adopting my first rescue pup: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_doghouse/5177112-oh-my-giddy-god?page=1

Could someone please explain who this dog is in my house and what they've done with Pod? Because he's been absolutely angelic today. Truly a wonderful, wonderful dog and even coped with my DF and DPs pal coming over for Sunday dinner and sitting up getting merry on red wine.

Or perhaps the collective will on MN have given me a SERIOUSLY needed good day. What a star. 🥹

Oh my giddy god...... | Mumsnet

I can't actually believe I'm finally typing this... I think I'm getting a dog! I've wanted one of my own my entire life. I had one growing up and l...

Also me and DP have both noticed his balls and bigger and lower which might explain the frankly split personality behaviour...

We had another jump-up-and-bite attack on our walkie today. The response is far less dramatic now I know exactly what to do... Calmly push Pod off, stamp on lead close to ground, deploy emergency pretend dead thing. And dyou know apart from a couple of nips it bloody worked! He ragged the toy instead.

The bad news is I am almost certainly on some sort of local Facebook group... Either under "I saw a horrible woman manhandling the sweetest dog" or "there's a dangerous dog that is going to eat someone's child in the area".

TBF if the stupid woman had had her dog on lead in the street like you're supposed to poor Pod would have had to work himself up into a shark attack.

Hey ho. Learning all the time.

Well handled! Yes theres probably tales of some mad woman with a ginormous ferocious Doberman rampaging round the streets (he's black and tan, ish with big ears, obviously that is what he be!)...

Praise be to the emergency pretend dead thing in the pocket :D

Spotting 'small snack type' dogs becomes second nature, almost like an involuntary tic tbh, you'll be deploying the Emergency Protocol without concious thought in no time.

On the balls front... when the Low-Level Long Wheelbase Chap had his... you could pretty accurately guage the ambient temps by how low they'd go! On very hot days, (or if the heating went a bit too high) it was truly eyewatering, given his already low-slung nature!

HangingOver · 06/11/2024 19:16

@WiddlinDiddlin you have no idea how much I rely on your fantastic comments to give me a smile when I'm feeling victimised by TerrorPod 😂

I don’t yet have a dog @HangingOver but I will get one one day when the time is right - I currently have a very high maintenance cat!
I just wanted to say that I love your updates. It sounds like you are doing so well with him and he is lucky to have found you/ that you found him.
Your updates have also given me more food for thought about what owning a dog really entails too, so for that I also thank you.
PS, Pod is beautiful and I love his ears.

bluegreygreen · 06/11/2024 21:15

Delurking to say that for health reasons we can't have a dog here but I am loving the stories of Pod & his Ears

(retires quietly)

HangingOver · 06/11/2024 21:21

I will seek out all his best ears photos for his lovely fan club

What a great photo! Can he get the Shipping Forecast with those ears?

Scampuss · 06/11/2024 22:25

Grin he's just so pointy!

That is one very content and happy Pod.

LadyGrillingSole · 07/11/2024 00:36

Oh my word, you're Pod is a truly epic hound 😎

My greys are my world, and it's obvious from every post that your boy is everything to you & your dp. My family are rooting for you 💐

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/11/2024 03:25

He's just a life support system for those ears really.

And you're most welcome, I am utterly smitten by the bat eared fool and I am so pleased he's landed with someone willing to take the time (and the battering!) he needs.

I see vids and pics of other peoples adorable dogs all day long via work, so I am generally a bit immune, but he has got me, and it is that combo of never ending ears and schnozz!

SnugglePod

Aw ... dreaming of cardboard boxes, favourite food and favourite people

Carouselfish · 07/11/2024 07:38

In the pointy picture he looks like a propeller!
Used to call similarly pointy collie Bicycle Saddle because of the exact shape of his black head.

FeralWoman · 07/11/2024 07:51

Wind farm generator. Or a radiation warning symbol.

I’m loving this thread. The successes that Pod and his very patient human @HangingOver have, and the gradual and steady increase in those successes. He’s such a lucky dog to have you.

I found the zoomies while shitting story funny, especially with the very important houseguest there.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 07/11/2024 07:54

I don't know what it's like where you are, but to have any dog, let alone a PodDog, that relaxed during firework season is quite an achievement.

TheBunyip · 07/11/2024 08:51

My sister in law has got a podenco. she's an older girl now but was passed around a bit before landing happily with them. to give you some encouragement she is incredibly low maintenance and downright lazy now she is grown up.

HangingOver · 07/11/2024 10:30

Thank you again for all your lovely messages PodSquad.

Pod has woken up in what I can only describe as an exlposive teenage mood. Wouldn't say hello to DP this morning, stomped around moaning for his walk, shouted at everyone on his walk, came home and stropped around some more, wailing dramatically for over an hour (while accepting snacks, bones, lick mat, Roolu etc etc).

I don't think he's sick or has sore teeth, although obviously I'll keep looking out for it, I think he's just a big fat grump atm. He dragged every part of his disgusting ripped up bed onto the sofa, pulled most of the stuffing out and has finally fallen asleep in a big dramatic heap, a bit like a crying Disney Princess.

He really is very funny when he's not being a total dickhead.

So obviously I've bought some multipacks of things he likes to deploy at strategic moments when I need to do Teams calls for work. Anyway, now he's decided he doesn't like any of them. He takes them off me, all excited, drops them, wuffs at them, runs around the garden with them...

My older lab was the same, treated something like the best thing ever and then promptly turned her nose up as soon as I bought a multi pack!

LadyGrillingSole · 07/11/2024 11:20

Aww, only your Podrick could make a case of the screamin' abdabs sound cute!

Are his ears flexible at all, can you bend them or are they stiff? They really are magnificent ears.
