Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

Tbf I wouldn't want an unattended Cane Corso in garden next to my kids.
My Dads Doberman used to bolt the fence regularly so eventually had to be rehomed.
Build a bigger / higher fence and keep on a lead when out would be my only suggestion.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 08/08/2024 19:41

I can't help but think there is more to this story.

Tbh the fact you knew the dog would be an issue - since you proactively spoke to your neighbour about it - speaks volumes here.

No one would react like that if the dog was under control and no one would escalate to Social Services either. I'm also interested to know how she thinks you're neglecting the dog. Do you not walk it? Not train it? Leave it for hours at a time?

That being said, I think anyone who gets a Cane Corso is a muppet so that might be colouring my views - but the fact you actually proactively told her you were getting that breed of dog just says so much. Absolutely no need for a dog like that - particularly when you have a young child.

GinForBreakfast · 08/08/2024 19:42

They are very scary looking dogs and I am not surprised your neighbour is freaking out.

Its2024happynewyear · 08/08/2024 19:44

What on earth were you thinking getting a cane corso when you have a child?

Mumblechum0 · 08/08/2024 19:44

I would be unhappy to have a dog like that next door if not secured properly. It's a guard dog.

YoureNotFromBrighton · 08/08/2024 19:48

I cannot abide people like you, and am very grateful I don't live next door to someone who is so irresponsible as to get such a dangerous high-risk breed. More fool you - if it turns on you, that's your own fault - if it turns on your neighbour, they did nothing to deserve it. I wouldn't be knocking on your door for a conversation, and would avoid you at all costs.

And you have a young child in the home. Awful. Poor kid.

Undisclosedlocation · 08/08/2024 19:49

I’m sorry but anyone who genuinely thinks that it’s appropriate to have any dog off lead in a car park is not acting in a responsible manner

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 08/08/2024 19:49

explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation

I hope you didn't put it like that! You've made yourself look a bit silly if so. She can put notes through your door for any reason she likes. Why is she scared of the dog? Does she bark a lot? Jump up? She is a dangerous breed, and you know that.

Justcallmebebes · 08/08/2024 19:50

I just googled as not sure what they look like and it says they were banned in 2023 under the dangerous dogs act. Is that right?

Tabbiesta · 08/08/2024 19:52

Horrible dogs.

And I'd feel the same if I saw it free and off lead in public.

roseymoira · 08/08/2024 19:55

Why would you get a dangerous dog when there is a child in the house???

UtterlyOtterly · 08/08/2024 19:55

I believe they are a banned breed in some countries. Hopefully only a matter of time before they are banned here.

It sounds as though your neighbour is understandably scared. Maybe make every effort to keep the dog visibly under control at all times.

Oh, and never, ever let it be near your child. If it goes for the child you are unlikely to be able to prevent injury or even worse.

AquaFurball · 08/08/2024 19:56

When were the RSPCA at your house? XL bully breeds, including Cane Corso, were banned in the UK on December 31st 2023. Your neighbour has every right to report you. If you have been granted permission to keep this dog, you will absolutely not be allowed to have it outside without a lead and muzzle.

Why would you risk your dog being seized and put down for your own vanity?

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 08/08/2024 19:56

Justcallmebebes · 08/08/2024 19:50

They’re not banned - but they should be. It’s the new breed of choice for the XL Bully owners. Which says a lot about OP.

ChildlessCatLadiesRuleOK · 08/08/2024 19:57

If you must have a dog, why can't you have a normal breed of dog?

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 08/08/2024 19:57

As far as I'm aware cane corso dogs fall under the XL Bully rules so your neighbour is correct. The dog should be on a lead, muzzled in public (which includes the car park) and you should have registered the dog as well.

SilenceInside · 08/08/2024 19:58

Your neighbour shouldn't be harassing you, but she is clearly scared of what is a large and dangerous dog.

Do you leave it alone often and for lengthy amounts of time? Are you absolutely certain it can't get out of your garden? It should be on a lead at all times outside your house and preferably muzzled.

Mollyplop999 · 08/08/2024 19:58

I genuinely do not understand people like you. Out if all the hundreds of breeds you could have picked from you choose one of these. I can only guess it's some kind if status thing, but it just makes you look like an irresponsible idiot.

Justanothermum9421 · 08/08/2024 20:00

I'd be terrified if our neighbours had a cane corso too, I'm completely unsurprised by her response! What was it that appealed to you about CC as a breed?

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 08/08/2024 20:00

There's got to be more to this. It's wildly irresponsible to have a Cane Corso at all, let alone with a small child. God forbid anything happens but I think people who do this should be charged with murder in the worst and totally avoidable case scenario.

Get a normal dog. One that works well with children. Like responsible parents do.

Gamergirl86 · 08/08/2024 20:00

Your neighbour is acting in a reasonable manner living next door to a cane corso. I'm sorry, what did you expect?
I'm outraged you chose this breed with a child at home. Whether rehousing or brought from a puppy it is NOT responsible to keep this dog in a house with a child.

If I was your neighbour I'd be reporting you to social services too.

RoachFish · 08/08/2024 20:01

Yep, another one who is on the neighbours side. It’s completely irresponsible to get a dog like that. It’s only a matter of time before it goes after your child or your poodle cross. No responsible dog owner would mix the three. Absolutely despicable and careless.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 08/08/2024 20:03

Are you sure your dog is legal?

Many Cane Corsos fall foul of the XL bully ban and must be on lead and muzzled in public.

Primefungus · 08/08/2024 20:03

Another dog lover here who thinks you are in the wrong. This is not a dog to have in this situation, or any really. And saying yo ket you know if it barks suggests you leave it alone for some time. Wtf were you thinking? Why do you need a big scary dog, what are you trying to prove? Ugh.

Bananalanacake · 08/08/2024 20:05

Why not a Pomeranian.
