Fucking XL fucking bullies

My lovely older cat was sitting in the front garden in the sun. Dog comes charging around the corner, was on her instantly and had her pinned down. Apparently they have workmen in and they left the gate open. She is at the vet, her back legs are not working properly and I am waiting to hear the outcome. I shouted, hit it with the lead, kicked it and my neighbour hit it with a broom. Eventually I had to grab the collar and drag it off, knowing it might bite me. All the people who think they are lovely dogs can fuck right off.

Hope you and your kitty are resting and doing okay today. That is a shocking incident - your cat is very lucky to a brave and quick thinking owner ❤️

CatWeekly · 11/05/2024 13:49

Please see if you can take this further, imagine if it is a small child next. So call the police back and say having looked at photos online, as they advised, it does look exactly like an xl bully. Say you want them to investigate an xl bully running free without owner or muzzle. This would constitute a crime on its own. Also tell them that having spoken to neighbours this is not the only time it has got loose.
If that doesn’t bear fruit see if any charities or free legal helplines like citizens advice can tell you how to proceed. As a pp says the dog warden might be worth a call. They may know of the dog if it gets out frequently.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 11/05/2024 22:15

Thanks again to everyone and I am so sorry @RandomMess , that is so awful. There was a thread on here some time ago I remember about someones cat being killed by dogs who jumped into their garden and it haunted me - still does. I am so grateful to have a happier outcome.

Kitty is doing ok, still limping badly and cant bear any weight on one of her back legs. The vets feel hopeful it may be soft tissue damage and settle with rest. She doesnt really want to eat, which is a pain because both medications say to be taken with food. I managed to coax her to eat this evening by settling her in her bed, sitting in front of her and hand feeding small pieces at a time. I hope she does not get used to this!

The owners are being cooperative about the bills- at least the mrs is, mr is kind of an arse. According to several of my neighbours he complained about being called out of work at first (although to be fair, that was before he learned it was not just about his dog getting out). He has been very cold and non committal, neither have actually apologized but the mrs has been asking about how the cat is doing and checking in with me. And is going to pay the vet directly. So, they seem to be acting decently. Which makes me feel it is not classed as an XL, because I dont think they would be so reasonable.

I am aching all over, can feel all the exertion of pulling the dog off today.

I used to own an anorexic cat who would stop eating every few months. I would mix wet food with water and use a medicine syringe to ‘force’ feed her. You could try this when you give medicine. With my cat once I’d got a bit into her she would then start eating herself.

RandomMess · 11/05/2024 22:35

If need be you need to "force feed" your Kitty, they can't go long without food before it makes them seriously ill.

The vets can sell you at frightening prices high calorie tinned "recovery" wet food. Which you can actually make a bit runnier and syringe in if need be.

aodirjjd · 11/05/2024 22:45

Everything crossed for your kitty. If she is able to walk well enough to use a litter tray and you are able to coax her to eat small amounts that’s a really good sign. She hopefully just needs lots of rest and tlc to heal.

im not sure the being good about vet bills can be read into either way. If they do have an XL they might be being really cooperative in the hopes you won’t go to police.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/05/2024 05:09

Oh bless you OP and your poor cat, you must have been terrified. I love all animals but I'm quite scared of this type of dogs. It does sounds like soft tissue damage, swelling can temporarily compress the nerves- is she on antiinflammatories? Hopefully that will bring it down a bit.

MuttsNutts · 12/05/2024 10:29

Which makes me feel it is not classed as an XL, because I dont think they would be so reasonable.

I disagree. If it could be classed as an XL Bully, there is every chance they would co-operate - less chance of you taking it further if they do.

I hope your poor cat makes a full recovery.

ladybirdsanchez · 12/05/2024 10:38

Your poor cat and poor you @Atethehalloweenchocs. I do hope she's okay and that the owners of the dog pay the bills without argument. Bloody thing should be put down if it's that vicious and reactive. Sending you Flowers and [dreamies] for your cat.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 12/05/2024 22:03

Thank you @ladybirdsanchez and everyone else who has posted. Quick update - kitty is eating like a champ today but still only if I sit and hand feed her. But the puncture wounds have become very red and sore looking. She has antibiotics but I will call the vet tomorrow to see if we need to change them out. She is very very tired, so is asleep on her favourite armchair and her best friend my older dog is laying underneath to keep an eye on her. Thank you all for the well wishes. She has her dreamies today, as well as lots of food, and some special treats, including ham.

Good news that your kitty is eating. I hope she’s on the road to recovery and you as well. I know you must be traumatised by what you witnessed. My daughter’s golden retriever was pounced on by an aggressive and out of control husky recently. Minding their own business with dog on lead and this dog ran from a house and pounced and sunk its teeth into his chest.

Keep a close eye on the wound. His was slightly oozing for a few days then healed over. But at that stage it became puffy as there was no escape route for the discharge. Another trip to the vet and another 5 days of antibiotics and anti inflammatories. He’s physically fine now but still a little anxious around other dogs.

Meggriffinshatsmells · 13/05/2024 08:48

I am so sorry. what a terrible thing to have happened. I’m glad she’s eating lots - that’s a brilliant sign. And hopefully the anti biotics will be enough for the puncture wounds.

I can’t walk my golden retriever where I live. full of those huge, awful dogs, XL bullies and other massive, ugly beasts.

It’s hard enough on the school run as you get them lunging at you (families here seem to like them). I live in a horrible, horrible area and they are some stupid sign of “status”. There was a protest in the park about them having to be muzzled, but the real scum don’t muzzle theres and no one has the time to care.

MercyDulb0ttle · 13/05/2024 08:53

Loathesome dogs owned by loathesome people.

There is simply no need to own dogs of this ilk.

nocoolnamesleft · 13/05/2024 19:48

Hope your kitty is doing better today.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 13/05/2024 19:53

Glad to see your update, poor kitty-hope a full recovery is made.

ladybirdsanchez · 13/05/2024 19:58

Is there any news on your cat today OP? I hope she's recovering and that eating well yesterday was a good sign.

Did you report the incident to the police/dog warden? If not, please do.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 15/05/2024 19:33

Hi all, not long home from the vet. He is a big mystified as to why she is not putting any weight at all on her back right leg, it seems to be localized in her hip but we went through all the x-rays and he cant see an obvious fracture or dislocation. So he has added some more heavy duty pain blockers and we are giving it another month to see if it gets better as the swelling and bruising go down - she is still all kinds of colours all over her stomach so it must be painful. The infection is better, the heat has gone and the swelling, so that is a relief. And she does seem a little brighter overall so guess the shock is wearing off. Thanks to the people who asked.

OP posts:
spiderlight · 15/05/2024 20:17

Brighter is good. I hope she starts putting weight on her leg soon.

CatWeekly · 15/05/2024 21:29

Hope she feels better soon, is she eating on her own now?

XL Bullies are cunts. Detest and loathe them for what they do to children, innocent animals and they are programmed for violence. A fighting breed.

Sincerely hope your beautiful cat is going to make it.

DO report to dog warden, as the XL Bully oughtn't be allowed to escape.

oakleaffy · 16/05/2024 01:43

@Atethehalloweenchocs

''Did you report the incident to the police/dog warden? If not, please do.''

THIS. It definitely needs reporting.

arialllla · 16/05/2024 02:30

It's not right at all but theres loads of dogs whatever breed will fight a cat. My neighbours tiny westie dog stopped listening to owner and chased a bird and ripped it to shreds it was horrifying. Any terrier dog will shake a rabbit to death without hesitation. No animal is perfect. How many little animals has that cat killed or tortured every day?

REP22 · 16/05/2024 16:55

Awful story on the news today about two XL Bullies causing carnage and suffering on a farm in Wales (though I think the incident was a while back) - (contains distressing info) XL bully: Wrexham farmer shoots dogs after sheep killed (bbc.com) - 24 pregnant ewes killed and 46 injured. The farmer shot the dogs. Rightly so - but I still blame the owner. Absolutely no business breeding and keeping these dogs if they cannot be properly managed/controlled. No-one, dog nor human, wins in this situation.

Part of my job involved farm work. I've seen the appalling damage that even a relatively benign "family pet" can do if let loose and uncontrolled with livestock. Christ alone know what that poor farmer felt when he saw those two Bullies decimating his flock. 😢

KeepHopeful · 16/05/2024 17:56

I really sympathise. American Bullies are not pets, they're bred as killing machines and some people are too dumb and arrogant to accept that.

I do hope your cat recovers well. And that you will too.

I would definitely press the police to take appropriate action. No dog that attacks a small pet, unprovoked, can be trusted.
