Fucking XL fucking bullies

Atethehalloweenchocs · 09/05/2024 14:40

My lovely older cat was sitting in the front garden in the sun. Dog comes charging around the corner, was on her instantly and had her pinned down. Apparently they have workmen in and they left the gate open. She is at the vet, her back legs are not working properly and I am waiting to hear the outcome. I shouted, hit it with the lead, kicked it and my neighbour hit it with a broom. Eventually I had to grab the collar and drag it off, knowing it might bite me. All the people who think they are lovely dogs can fuck right off.

I wish that breeders of all dogs would focus on temperament instead of looks.

Not that I think bullies look remotely nice 😂 but even regular dogs have sadly killed cats.

buckeejit · 09/05/2024 18:32

So sorry OP. I'd avoid XLBs like the plague now. Hope your cat is ok 💐

velvetstars · 09/05/2024 18:41

I'm so sorry about your lovely cat. I hope the visit to the vet is able to help. I would be making a call straight to the police once your cat is settled.

If it's a XL bully it will be seized - and quite frankly it should be, if it has gotten out and attacked an animal like that.

If the owners haven't gotten it registered then they will face legal repercussions. If they have got it registered then they still face repercussions as it was out without a lead, muzzle or owner - it will also mean it has insurance so hopefully simpler to claim vet bills back.

If it's not an XL bully then it's still dangerously out of control in a public place, and your pet is technically your property so it's possibly also criminal damage.

I would be pushing this as far as you can, thank goodness you weren't hurt and that your cat wasn't outright killed. A dangerous dog like that does not belong in the community, there are so many ways this could have been even worse that don't bear thinking about.

Zippedydoodahday · 09/05/2024 18:49

Contact the police and report the dog as "dangerously out of control in a public place". That is an offence regardless of the breed. Next time it could be a child.

I hope your poor cat recovers okay.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/05/2024 18:54

Really hope your cat is okay. Definitely report the dangerously out of control dog.

agncndmkd128494 · 09/05/2024 19:05

How awful hope your car is ok. I am a dog owner but very glad about the bully XL ban. Report to the police- the dog should be put down, it could easily have attacked you for trying to get it off the cat

EdithStourton · 09/05/2024 19:14

I hope your cat is okay, OP. There is a bloke near us with an American Bulldog and an XL, and the local dog-walking word is to not go near his badly fenced garden because his dogs are very territorial. He is utterly clueless about training them, too.

thistimelastweek · 09/05/2024 19:16

Today I saw two adult women trying to restrain an enormously powerful dog. The dog was wearing a harness attached to which were two separate thick leads each one of which was controlled by a woman.
It took all of their strength to hold it back whilst it barked and lunged at a small dog passing by.
What's the point? Why would you have a dog that's a potential killing machine and can only just be restrained by two adults?

NotJohnMajor · 09/05/2024 19:17

You should claim the cost of your vets bills from the owners - dogs carry third party liability (cats do not).

Hoping your cat recovers Flowers

ThisIsMyRubbishUsername · 09/05/2024 19:21

I’m so sorry to hear this, and I hope your cat can make a good recovery.
I HATE these XL bully dogs and I hate their owners by association.
One walked past my kids on the school run, no muzzle. I stared the owner down and said it should be muzzled. I haven’t seen the woman walking it since at school times, people who own them are so irresponsible.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 09/05/2024 19:36

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 09/05/2024 17:35

I’m so sorry.
Are you sure it was an XL, I’m not sure the poor thing would be alive at all if one of them had gotten a hold. Plus they should be muzzled now… bad owner. Any dog that attacks small furries etc should not be off lead at all.

They can be lovely dogs, but they tend not to like other dogs or small furries as a rule, there is the exception. They aren’t bad dogs, but the type of people who are often attracted are scum. They train them to be aggressive, weight train them etc. Other breeds will be next. The problem, is humans.

I hope your poor cat will be ok.

I am not sure no, it was definitely a bull breed but I did not really look that carefully at its front end - I was at its tail end as it had my cat pinned down and was kicking it.

She may need surgery, I am definitely going to claim from them for the bills, as well as my lost wages tomorrow morning (I have to take her to a different vet for a particular scan, then either they or my vet will do the surgery).

I got a message that they were checking their insurance, but if I have to take them to small claims court, I will be happy to do so. The mrs is ok, the mr is being very curt in his answers, I guess he does not want to admit liability.

Thanks @velvetstars . I was bitten by a dog quite badly about 30 years ago - still have the scars on my chest - it was a GSD so big and powerful, and had bitten other people before. So it was quite triggering but when nothing else worked I realized I could either watch it keep attacking and potentially killing my cat, or take a chance. Glad I did, fortunately it worked out well for me. And looks like my lovely old girl did some damage to its face, she had lots of blood on her, but it seems quite a bit was not hers.

Oh, your poor cat. I would be absolutely fucking livid. I hope she recovers. I would definitely be sending the bill to the neighbours.

Mummapenguin20 · 09/05/2024 19:47

That’s disgusting hope your poor cats ok

bubblesforbreakfast · 09/05/2024 19:48

Awful. I'm sorry for you and for your cat too. Agree to report it to the police, not sure if they will help as was a cat not a person but at the least it will help get over to the owners how serious this is.

I agree, it's insane and what is it even for? What joy do these 2 women (in your example) get lugging this horrible monster around?

chipshopElvis · 09/05/2024 19:55

Hope your kitty makes a full recovery OP. My lovely cat was killed by an XL bully off its lead nearly 2 years ago, I'm glad for the ban but wish it were better enforced.

Nicole1111 · 09/05/2024 19:57

How awful for you. I’m hoping your dog is as well as possible.

Vitriolinsanity · 09/05/2024 19:59

There is an element of me that is sympathetic to the dog. It is what it is.

The other part of me despises the owners of these dogs. Frankly even when muzzled they're fucking scary, but that's because whenever I see them they're either with some weed dude (yes mate we can all smell it) or some skinny, over-botoxed woman being dragged along with no control.

Here, if you dare utter a derogatory word about either the poor dog (see empathy above) or the evident lack of control (see twats above) you are verbally attacked.

Only yesterday, for popping my dog on a lead to get past such a family I was told "it's a fucking dog park, go somewhere else if you don't fucking like it".

I really hope your cat is OK, wring every penny out of the pricks.

Winederlust · 09/05/2024 20:01

I have a sighthound who was attacked by what I believe was an XL bully/staffy cross last year so I understand how traumatic the experience is and I hope your cat makes a full recovery.
However, I also know that my dog would equally go for a cat if the gate was left open and it saw one on the street, and could do some damage if it really wanted to, so I don't think it's necessarily a breed problem but a careless owner problem.

ZestofCoffee · 09/05/2024 20:02

I’m so sorry OP I hope your cat is ok. Keep us updated.

Definitely claim the bills from them. Their dog was dangerous out of control. Is it worth a police report?

Atethehalloweenchocs · 09/05/2024 20:08

Have a link to the police, they recommended it when I called 101. I know a lot of dogs go for cats, and have some sympathy for that, because you dont necessarily know when you get a dog if yours will be reactive. But its focus was scary - even if it was not an XL - and in my panic I may have mistaken another bull breed for an XL - it was not going to let go until I dragged it off. God knows how I managed it - I am knackered now from the adrenaline so assume I have pulled all kinds of muscles in my panic to get it off my cat. I am quite strong but think I was full of energy from the panic too.

The owner just texted to say their insurance does not cover this kind of thing, so perhaps the dog is another type of bull breed. I have told them I will let them know when I know the costs and they can make arrangements.

They should have public liability and that’s what this is.

YouJustDoYou · 09/05/2024 20:15

Oh poor little cat 😥I honestly hate XLs, all that "owner not the dog" thing is utter bullshit. The breed is unpredictable and horrific.
