Fucking XL fucking bullies

My lovely older cat was sitting in the front garden in the sun. Dog comes charging around the corner, was on her instantly and had her pinned down. Apparently they have workmen in and they left the gate open. She is at the vet, her back legs are not working properly and I am waiting to hear the outcome. I shouted, hit it with the lead, kicked it and my neighbour hit it with a broom. Eventually I had to grab the collar and drag it off, knowing it might bite me. All the people who think they are lovely dogs can fuck right off.

What @Cosmosforbreakfast said. I hope your cat is ok. That dog needs to be PTS.

Maneandfeathers · 09/05/2024 16:12

Me too. I’m sick of seeing and hearing of big bull breeds tearing things apart. It’s constantly on my feeds. Only yesterday there was some ugly bull thing attacking cows allover facebook, people never learn.

fieldsofbutterflies · 09/05/2024 17:28

That's horrendous OP, I really hope your lovely cat pulls through Flowers

When you feel able, please report this dog for being dangerously out of control.

BloodyAdultDC · 09/05/2024 17:30

As part of the recent legislation don't they have to be insured now? You should be able to claim your vet bills back. Hope dcat is ok x

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 09/05/2024 17:35

I’m so sorry.
Are you sure it was an XL, I’m not sure the poor thing would be alive at all if one of them had gotten a hold. Plus they should be muzzled now… bad owner. Any dog that attacks small furries etc should not be off lead at all.

They can be lovely dogs, but they tend not to like other dogs or small furries as a rule, there is the exception. They aren’t bad dogs, but the type of people who are often attracted are scum. They train them to be aggressive, weight train them etc. Other breeds will be next. The problem, is humans.

I hope your poor cat will be ok.

TheFunHasGone · 09/05/2024 17:37

Awful, I hope your cat is OK

InducingHope · 09/05/2024 17:37

Everything crossed for you lovely cat. Please do report the attack to the police. They aren’t just interested in human attacks but animal also.

rwalker · 09/05/2024 17:40

Fingers crossed
on a practical side report to police and ask him for insurance or how would he like to pay vets bills

Trulyme · 09/05/2024 17:50

Oh no your poor cat!!
I hope it’s going to be ok ❤️❤️

I’d be surprised if this was an XL bully as the reason people wanted them banned was due to the damage they can do, so I don’t think you would have any grounds to get them into trouble or anything unless the dog has been a nuisance before.

I know many cats that have been injured/killed by dogs but they’re usually greyhounds or terriers and there’s never been any sanctions put in place for the owners or dogs.

JohnofWessex · 09/05/2024 17:54

Some years ago I was advised by the Police/Dog Warden that you are allowed to use 'reasonable force' against a dog if you - or in this case your cat is attacked so if doggy gets cracked across the head with a large heavy blunt instrument its quite legal under the right circumstances

AstonUniversityScrapedMyCorpus · 09/05/2024 14:44

oh no! I’m so sorry. Your poor kitty.

I’ve completely rearranged my schedule in order to avoid the neighbourhood American Bullies. My two dogs (sighthounds) are too delicate to survive an altercation with a fighting breed or derivative type.

I cannot wait for the fashion for such big and muscular dogs to end.

An American Bulldog is not an XL Bully, totally different dogs

OP says the dog escaped a garden after the gate was left open, so it wouldn't have been muzzled.

Danioyellow · 09/05/2024 18:01

The exact same happened on my estate just a few hours ago, I’m watching the drama unfold on our local fb group. Except it was a beagle that got let loose and tore a cat apart. The cat managed to get up a tree, but it’s now in the vets also with damaged back legs like yours. I hate xl’s but any dog can get loose and grab a cat

entervalidusername · 09/05/2024 18:04

They should all be put down! They are fucking awful dogs. I hope your cat will be okay.

Agree. I hate the bastard things too. Our local rescue has one they are stuck with and they are constantly promoting it and asking for donations. I love dogs but not these monsters. I hope your puss recovers this is so sad 😢 x

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 09/05/2024 18:08

@Remagirl They don’t all deserve to die. Some can and have live with cats.
I’d like to see legislation brought in to stop people breeding, especially if you don’t know what you are doing. Target the human problem.

JuiceBoxJuggler · 09/05/2024 18:11

Please report. Awful dog, awful breed.

WoodBurningStov · 09/05/2024 18:12

Awful owners, so sorry you're having to go through this, I really hope your cat is ok.

EG94 · 09/05/2024 18:14

this is my biggest fear as a dog owner. I’m so so sorry this happened to you.

i was walking my two, small terriers, when a bully staffy type thing broke out through a wooden barrier. Thankfully there was an electric box next to their gate. I just hoisted mine up there whilst this dog was foaming at the mouth jumping up me whilst I shielded my dogs with my body shouting get your fucking dog. The owner came out grabbed it and said “he didn’t get them did he” I felt physically sick and changed my walking route. They’d be savaged in such an attack.

They are "bad dogs" though. Despite making up less than 3% of the total dog population in the UK, they're single handedly responsible for more than 66% of fatal dog attacks. That's just the fatal ones, not even the bites. They're dangerous and unpredictable, their specific breed traits make them so.

I am so sorry. I hope your cat will be OK. Those dogs (and a lot of the people at the ends of their leads) really concern me. I've got a French Bulldog X Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who is a very affectionate soul. An XL Bully recently went for him at the local pub quiz. Without thinking I put myself between the dogs. It took the dog owner and two members of pub staff to haul the XLB away. Very upsetting but fortunately no lasting harm done. Bloke was told in no uncertain terms not to return to the pub with the dog. He walked off across the street to the local chippy but the dog kept mine in his stare the whole time (pub doors were open). I had to take mine out and put him in the car in the end, he was so distressed having this big thug of a dog staring and snarling at him, even from two streets away.

I hope you will be OK too. I know how desperately upset you must, be. x

Its not just the dogs, its the owners.

I suggest that there are quite a few dog owners who need psychiatric care

Mrsdyna · 09/05/2024 18:28

I'm really surprised that you managed to get it off your poor cat on your own. Very brave of you. 💐

Runningonempty01 · 09/05/2024 18:30

Most dogs are fairly respectful of cats. The consequences of attacking a cat are frightening to any normal dog. I have seen a few dogs chase a cat but if they are of a normal temperament they would back down straight away if they get close to a cat, too many teeth and claws. I think the type of dog that would do this to cat and not back down is a serious danger to all animals and people, especially small children. Your poor cat x
