What are you buying your dog for Christmas?

I'm really struggling with present ideas for my dog this year.

She's on a restricted diet so I can't really get treats beyond what she usually has - I'll wrap up several packets of her usual treats so she has something to open though.

She doesn't really play much with toys and is terrified of squeakers in toys - I might get her a couple of teddies from the charity shop, even though she probably won't even look at them.

She's got loads of beds all over the house so doesn't need one of them.

She won't wear clothes 😭

I bought her a snuggle heat pad last Christmas which she loves.
I also got some gloves for wiping her down with which I wrapped up last year too.
I bought her a new lead and collar set for her gotcha day this year.
I also bought her several new bowls over the course of this year (all of which she hates!).

I'm going to order to fancy poo bags off Ebay.
But I can't think of what else to get for her. What are you getting for your dog?

We have 6 dogs, they're mostly rescues and several of them are a bit 'odd' too.

They all have absolutely everything that they need and more, so I'll just take them individually into Pets at Home and let them choose a new toy each. Tbh I know them well enough to know who likes a squeaky, who likes a crinkly, who likes a ball and who likes something with long flappy arms/legs that can be shaken around etc, but they love this 1-1 time.

Several of them have dietary issues, so we don't do any biscuits, chews or anything like that because I don't think it's fair to leave some of them out.

(We also have cats, they're getting a new tin of catnip sardines to share, a rabbit who's getting an advent calendar and a new jingly ball, and 2 snakes - haven't decided what to get them yet. Maybe I'll start a thread and wait for some misery guts to have a go at me 🤔).

My Christmas wish is that all animals were so loved 🤗

Sweet FA because she is a dog, but she will eat like a king with all the leftover.

IceIceBabyBump · 02/11/2023 09:43

I did actually buy her a bandana last year which she was not a huge fan of. She's a very strange girl because she had a very difficult start to life and was very anxious. She can only cope with life when its 'just so' and predictable. Anything new or out of the ordinary is an absolute no-no, including a lovely personalised Christmas bandana 😣

I discovered snuffle balls yesterday- I might get one of those.

And I might get her a nice new brush too, just for the heck of it.

There are some wonderful ideas on here, thank you - so many pampered pooches!

so far I have got treat dispensing toys, a new bed cos his stinks, started on the many bags of treats. Don't know what to get him this year as he's been poorly so isn't into playing with toys anymore, so already has loads. He has loads of jumpers, & drying coats already & 4 matching harness & lead sets, but may get him one more. Will be getting him some new shampoo & cologne. I may get him some new pj's for his christmas eve box & he's got a new christmas mug for that too, for his puppucino. He's also got a new christmas jumper as he gets a new one every year

I'm going to get her a snuffle mat. She's got everything else she needs, apart from some dry weather for enjoyable walks

@SirenSays#
Have a look at Collared Creatures website

isthismylifenow · 02/11/2023 10:22

I don't buy gifts for them, and I even totally forget about their birthdays this year too. I know, I know, I sounds like a dreadful owner.

But, on Christmas day they get a bow. As at it happens I have recently bought them a bauble for the Christmas tree. Its a bauble of their breed.

Of course they won't know any different, one hates a bow and the other loves it, so she will parade around all day. The Lab, he will have chewed it within 2 minutes I bet.

MerlinsButler · 02/11/2023 11:39

Ha ha. This is my kind of Christmas thread.

Mine is getting:

New waterproof coat
Dry robe thingy for after beach walks
A new toy ( to destroy / decapitate)
Treats
New doughnut bed
Light up ball for dark walks
Whimzees
Buffalo horn

The cat will also get a new bed, catnip toys and treats too. And a new collar.

I may have already put too much thought into it.

We'll also give to local petfood bank and do the local animal sanctuary Christmas shoebox appeal.

To be fair both my dog and cat buy me a Christmas present so it's only fair Smile

IceIceBabyBump · 02/11/2023 11:52

I'm going to buy this as a joint present for DP and the dog: https://www.johnlewis.com/william-morris-at-home-canine-companion-dog-walker-gift-set/p110650342

I wish instead of people wasting money on stuff that dogs do not need like clothes for them ( unless a greyhound ) yet another toy when there are 20 already.....they would donate to one of the many shelters that are desperate to provide veterinary care medication and food to hundreds of dogs.
My d dog will eat well from the scraps, enjoy us all being here and lots of extra attention, and l will donate extra to Dogs Trust and The Brook Animal Hospital for Horses.
That £20 jumper that is so adorable would buy a 25 kg sack of much needed feed for a dog for a month....

IHateLegDay · 02/11/2023 12:03

I've already bought mine an advent calendar 😂
I'll also get him a toy, a new blanket and some treats. His favourite thing ever is to unwrap presents so you have to wait to give him his after everyone's already opened theirs or he gets over excited and tries to unwrap everything 😂 he usually spends Christmas surrounded by mountains of wrapping paper with a big doggy grin

Some people might do both 🤷🏼‍♀️ I certainly do.

@BeansOnToast32 Ditto, I do both too.

The pug will get his own stocking with a toy and treats and will dress up to go for family Xmas lunch. Wouldn't be the same without him.

I love that the pug has an outfit for special occasions.

All of our dogs have the same status if not higher than family members.

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeee · 02/11/2023 12:56

@BeansOnToast32 me too & not just at Christmas

Thank god, someone talking sense. I'm actually in shock. Keep thinking this whole thread must be a spoof. I love dogs. Grew up with dogs, though don't have one at the moment. They had a lead till it wore out, a basket, till it wore out, the odd ball - otherwise played with sticks. They did not wear clothes. They were completely happy, normal dogs & we loved them. The environment is in crisis - why buy more completely unnecessary tat that will end up in landfill, probably shedding mocroplastics along the way? So many dogs in rescues, never mind all the families in poverty.

Brumbies · 02/11/2023 13:16

This is a joke thread surely?

You know people can do both, right?

SirenSays · 02/11/2023 13:31

I can't wait to see you all on the Christmas threads telling people they can't buy DC treats as other children are starving.

I have rescue and foster dogs and like lots of people I'll use christmas and birthdays to buy things their pets need.
So yes while my dog could play with a stick, even though they're dangerous and not recommended by the blue Cross. And I could leave my elderly girl to feel the cold without a jumper, but I won't.

Welshphoenix · 02/11/2023 13:44

I have a new cuddly teddy , snuggle blanket several interactive dog toys and a new collar and lead. We go away for Christmas so she has her stocking filled with treats and a nice bone. She has her own bed in the hotel and will have a Christmas dinner made specially with no salt ECT . It is really close to her birthday which was last week and then we had 10 dogs for her party at a dog park complete with cake and doggy bags to go home.

Welshphoenix · 02/11/2023 13:50

I do both too

Welshphoenix · 02/11/2023 13:55

Why would it be . Nothing like buying a gift for our fur babies.
Here is my girl at her birthday party a little while ago with her friends

What are you buying your dog for Christmas?
Aurora2023 · 02/11/2023 13:56

I got my spoiled hound a Christmas tree style squishmallow from eBay for £10. Now he's older he doesn't rip apart soft toys anymore. He'll also have some Christmas roast dinner and can play with all the wrapping paper. Nothing wrong with spoiling a dog 😊

Scalottia · 02/11/2023 13:58

What a strange concept. She's a dog, they don't know it's Christmas. Why do some people anthropomorphise their pets like this?

IceIceBabyBump · 02/11/2023 14:00

@Welshphoenix That is absolutely adorable. Which one is yours?
