What are you buying your dog for Christmas?

I'm really struggling with present ideas for my dog this year.

She's on a restricted diet so I can't really get treats beyond what she usually has - I'll wrap up several packets of her usual treats so she has something to open though.

She doesn't really play much with toys and is terrified of squeakers in toys - I might get her a couple of teddies from the charity shop, even though she probably won't even look at them.

She's got loads of beds all over the house so doesn't need one of them.

She won't wear clothes 😭

I bought her a snuggle heat pad last Christmas which she loves.
I also got some gloves for wiping her down with which I wrapped up last year too.
I bought her a new lead and collar set for her gotcha day this year.
I also bought her several new bowls over the course of this year (all of which she hates!).

I'm going to order to fancy poo bags off Ebay.
But I can't think of what else to get for her. What are you getting for your dog?

It's my dog's second Christmas. Last year I bought her a stocking and filled it with her favourite natural treats and a couple of toys, I kept the stocking so will do the same again this year. I've already been eyeing up a few of the PetFace Christmas toys.

I also bought a couple of Xmas jumpers in the run up to last Christmas which she wore on frosty morning walks. They will be recycled this Christmas, I've already tried them on her and they still fit, she's barely grown since then with her being a small breed.

She will also have a bit of Christmas dinner and a nice walk.

Natural dog treats.
Probably a pizzle stick and a large yak chew each

TheSproutOfWrath · 01/11/2023 18:07

Another dog!
We just lost both our old boys last week so have a new pup joining us next week .

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 01/11/2023 18:12

More balls as he’s just about lost the ones he got for his birthday, he needs super strong, extra bouncy ones and they’re expensive! Plus he just loves it when we open the package and let them go everywhere. Aldi had the right ones in a Christmas design last year and they’re much cheaper.

Teeny teddies as he shreds bigger ones but looks after the little ones like they’re his babies. I don’t need to buy them as a friend gave me a massive bag of McDonalds teddies and I’ve put them away as he has enough for now.

Some treats of course, a full Christmas dinner and a decent walk. He might not know it’s Christmas but he loves opening his own presents!

I try to get stuff he needs that'll be useful

  • treats
-bone
  • Kong filler (doggy peanut butter)
  • blanket
  • Balls
  • maybe a New towel robe thing

He destroys toys so probably won't bother with any toys x

Just in case anyone is interested tennis clubs sell their used tennis balls on Ebay and they are perfect for playing fetch with . Still in excellent condition better than the tennis balls in pet shops and cheaper .

StarkRealism · 01/11/2023 18:19

Hopefully a certificate of exemption.

Devastatedyetagain · 01/11/2023 18:32

Two working sheepdogs who live in the house will get a couple of cuddly, squeaky toys that they will destroy, a stocking each and of course a sheep toy of some sort. They enjoy the wrapping paper as well!!!

SharonEllis · 01/11/2023 18:37

What did your dog give you last year? I'd take my lead from that....

FastFood · 01/11/2023 19:00

Nothing, he's a dog 😂
I also gave him my whole life and a lot of my money, so I think he'll survive with just fancy game meat!

note: he recently had a very posh Barbour wax coat (he needs one)

IceIceBabyBump · 01/11/2023 19:43

That dry bag is amazing 😍

Toys , he’s on a restricted diet so can’t have sweets and he has had a new bed this year and doesn’t need any more collars / harnesses .

cleowasmycat · 01/11/2023 20:21

The pug will get his own stocking with a toy and treats and will dress up to go for family Xmas lunch. Wouldn't be the same without him.

fitflopqueen · 01/11/2023 20:29

Mine is ready for a new harness and lead so may wrap that and put a few treats in, she loves ripping the paper off. A trip to the charity shop for any soft toys with no squeaks, hard noses or eyes may also be in order, she only decapitates them anyway.

Murplen · 01/11/2023 22:32

You could get them a Christmas bandana that goes over a collar or a bow. Etsy has loads of handmade dog gifts that you also might like Smile

"Donate to a charity in her name or buy her a goat from Oxfam"

A goat???? Grin Not sure that would work.....

StarDolphins · 01/11/2023 23:41

I have bought (me) him a Mongolian cushion for the sofa, he has loads of cushions to choose from but particularly like these🤣

I will also buy him a new toy & he will get Christmas lunch too followed by some peanut butter & banana cookies that we’ll make him!

StarDolphins · 01/11/2023 23:46

Highlyflavouredgravy · 01/11/2023 13:01

It's a dog.
Why are you 'struggling for ideas'?
This is yhe 2nd thread like this I have seen. The other was about a cat.

Use the money you would have spent to donate to a charity that helps actual children who understand what Christmas is.

Op might not like children? Just as you don’t seem to like animals? As it’s the 2nd thread about the ridiculous & appalling way some treat the pets they love.

You could’ve scrolled past both of this ridiculous threads but you took time out of your day to compile a snarky reply. Excellent🤣

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 01/11/2023 23:59

Lick mat, hollee roller ball (stuff with rolled rags with treats etc), outward hound puzzle toy, an unfilled cows hoof or deer antler, hotel reception style bell to teach her to ring it, balance pads for core strength……….a few ideas

mondaytosunday · 02/11/2023 00:36

Nothing. They don't play with toys and last time I got them a chew bone one just anxiously carried it from room to room. They got new collars last year so don't need one now. One also got a sweater as she has alopecia but doesn't need another. We hang stockings for them but will just put a few treats in (to be honest it's more for the look of them hanging on the mantle than actually putting gifts inside). Ditto the cats.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 02/11/2023 00:41

Last year she got a canicross harness.

After the last hour, she is getting doggy incontinence pants this year.

VocalFryUp · 02/11/2023 01:05

Personalised towels
Automatic ball launcher
Quality Pawlity Street Dog Toy
Lots if other chew toys/balls/puzzles
Dog Ice cream
Yak chews

And their favourite walk and Xmas dinner on the day too. Not forgetting their advent calendar to count down to the big day.

Living this thread, apart from the unwanted grumps. 😅
