Someone thought my dog was an XL bully

walking towards us on the pavement and loudly telling her kids to be careful of that awful XLA bulley dog and walk away from it...

I wouldn't mind so much if she looked a bit more like a bulldog of almost any variety but our lovely dog is a Sprocker..

say it just underlined for me how negative some people are becoming about dogs with all the recent news

That's very irresponsible of the woman to try and scare her children by using your dog as a threat.
Of all the dogs out there, Guides are probably the most highly trained and best socialised, least likely dog to ever put a paw wrong.

Two guides play together locally, their jingling bells announce their presence- they are big dogs and I was a bit intimidated by one until I learned he was a guide.

He's a big shaggy {well groomed} German Shepherd.

There are a lot more out of control dogs around these days, probably due to pandemic and people buying them on whim.

Best comment I’ve had ‘Aw what is she? Some kind of Jack Russell?’ To which I replied, No she’s a ferocious Pitt bull best keep back

@Stealthtax dogs are legally required to be on a short lead by roads, already, if you see someone walking their dog off lead by a road regulartly, you should report them to the dog warden. It’s dangerous for the dog, and for other people.

I mistook a large bull breed (possibly an XL bully - I live in an area where they are very common) for a gorilla. In my defence it was dark and I just caught it in my headlights and saw the silhouette walking towards me - huge squarish head, bowed front legs.
I didn’t say it out loud though.

A social worker on a home visit misidentified my greyhound as a Great Dane! My old female greyhound was mistaken for a Doberman but she did have a docked tail (medical reason)!

My first Labrador puppy was with me in a local city centre. A group of youths walked past and asked if he was a Rottweiler.

I was asked by a group of lads if mine was a wolf, she's akita mix with other breeds...no wolf...

I lost all faith in people when someone pointed at my dog and shouted oooo they’ve crossed a husky and a sausage dog.

He is a corgi. It was three days after the jubilee.

that's very funny. there's someone who lives near us who has a beagle crossed woth a labradorite. it's got a lab body and colour , beagle ears and little short beagle legs. wonderful gentle friendly dog but looks like a collection of misfits melded together.

@listsandbudgets i do like dog that looks like lots of dogs melded together! My childhood dog was a true Heinz 57, some bits of collie, some German shepherd, some Jack Russell and many miscellaneous. The funny thing was her behaviour was like that as well!

@Bunnyannesummers I have a corgi too. People keep asking me what he's crossed with. He's a KC registered Pembroke Welsh. I think people get confused because he has a massive and fabulous fluffy tail.

Some people haven't a clue about dog breeds, which is fair enough. But I have no idea why you'd make a tit of yourself by storming along the street making loud, passive aggressive comments about an 'XL bully' wheh you must know you can't tellone breed from another. If she's that freaked out by them, you'd think she's probably seen plenty of pictures in the media.
