Thought I would start another thread for all those puppy owners.

@BigBundleOfFluff
@Cocopuff

Will have to look back to tag others as cannot remember all names.

I'm here , haven't had much to complain about really , little Lab puppy sleeping from 10pm 'til 6am now and toilet training going well only three accidents to date , and she is eleven weeks . Starts training classes on Tuesday so 🤞🏻 it all goes well . Have to start checking in more .

Thanks for the new thread @Orangebadger !

Aw, look at pookiepup! So sweet. Unluckypup turned 5 months yesterday and is looking less like a puppy by the day. Seems to be getting hairier and darker though. Her coat was a mystery so I'm enjoying watching it evolve. When she walks around her tail fans out a bit 😍

I have a question. Do you take your pups to cafes and the like? If so, what age were they when you started? (And are you paranoid that despite being toilet trained they might have an accident? 🙈)

pookiedoodlepuppy · 05/05/2023 17:49

@Luckycat1 I have done already , we went armed with treats and just had a small glass of something . Put her on the grass outside the pub before we went in and half way through our visit .It was a relief she didn't howl the place down .Grin

Gizlotsmum · 05/05/2023 17:53

Ooh can I join? Have a 18 week ( on Monday) English setter and we have good and bad days. So need somewhere to rant when he is a twathund! Picture of him ‘ready’ for a walk which he then attempted to pull all the way through!

BigBundleOfFluff · 05/05/2023 18:07

@Luckycat1
Yep fluffpup has been out and about with us. Only to places which have outside seating though. She's great, but at the pub she sat by the door patiently waiting for attention each time someone arrived, 🙄. It was only ok as the only people that go there like dogs..
I take an enormous disgusting chew and she normally has a long (or we make it long) walk to get there.

On poo eating from the previous thread - thank f**k she doesn't do this so no advice. She's partial to a spot of Guinea pig poo and hangs round looking like she hasn't been fed for weeks when we are cleaning their cage out. I do try and avoid it though- but I'm convinced the Guinea pigs flick fresh poo at her.

Midnightstar76 · 05/05/2023 19:26

Reporting in. She is 15 weeks now and the bond between my DD and Sandi is just lovely to see. She is an absolute joy. We all lover her to bits. Have started basic training at a local school which I am enjoying just as much as Sandi. Although learning to walk is a bit overwhelming but will persevere! She has just ran off with DD’s school shoe lol have to dash!!!

@Gizlotsmum Your Setter is adorable , those eyes .🥰

Orangebadger · 05/05/2023 20:15

@pookiedoodlepuppy she's gorgeous! Hope puppy training goes well.

@Luckycat1 we have taken Orangepup to a local national trust park which has a cafe. It's a good walk to do with the kids as they get a treat at the end! Orangepup is ok with it, not brilliant though as she's so into everything going on, all the other dogs and food etc. She's attached to the bench, I just try and drop her lots of treats.

@Gizlotsmum ahhhh lovely English setter ❤️ my neighbours growing up had English setters, 3 of them! Lovely dogs. I met one in the park the other day, I had no idea that they are a vulnerable breed until the owner told me.

@Midnightstar76 yes it's lovely seeing the bond grow with the kids. My youngest actually did not like dogs before Orangepup, more of a cat boy. But he now adores Orangepup, she's the only dog he approves of!! Hopefully he'll grow to appreciate the wonder of dogs that I and his big sister have, he's only 5 so plenty of time.

Can I join too please? Our Cockapoo puppy has been with us for three months and it’s been super hard, but we are now coming through the worst of it and are starting to really enjoy her. She is sleeping through at night and has just started taking herself off to her crate at night, it’s a big win for us! We’ve also completed a puppy training course which has done wonders for her.

Sunflowers765 · 05/05/2023 20:39

Hey, a new thread! Sunpup would like to be part of it!

Gizlotsmum · 05/05/2023 21:01

Thank you, he does poor hard done by pup very well

Gizlotsmum · 05/05/2023 21:04

@Orangebadger he’s our first dog. Yes the KC registered just over 200 puppies last year. Not sure why they aren’t more popular… even with the stubbornness! I swear everyone who knows he is an English setter has a lovely story about how they grew up with one/ knew one when they were little.

autienotnaughtym · 05/05/2023 21:54

I was on the last thread! My lab is two now and while he still has his moments I love him to bits. But 5-18 months was so hard.

Luckycat1 · 05/05/2023 22:02

Looks like a place with outdoor seating will be ideal. Unluckypup/luckypup (I'm sure my username keeps switching between the two by itself!) is very keen on people so indoors is probably too much for now. My favourite coffee shop always has a range of calm dogs in it - one day!

@Gizlotsmum aww what a fab puppy, I just looked english setters up, I don't think I've seen one before but they're so beautiful and striking.

@Midnightstar76 Sandi looks a great size for kids. So lovely that your DD and her are bonding. Unluckypup is a bit big really which I don't think helped in the early days, she scared my children when she had the zoomies or was mouthing (and they range from 7 to teens!) but they're rubbing along nicely now.

Welcome @Greengreented ! We're halfway through a four week training course and enjoying it so far, though success is varied

Really ? My pup will be arriving august/September...... 18 months you say. A full 18 months ? My anxiety is rising 😬

Beginningless · 05/05/2023 22:14

Thanks for the new thread! We have done a lot of cafe-ing and Beginpup does really well. Often take a chew but even if not he does settle down quite easily and has a snooze. Here he is at an outdoor one but he’s been fine indoors. I tend to give titbits of what we are eating so I think that helps him behave, waiting quietly for his rewards.

Thanks for your reply on the last thread @BigBundleOfFluff about the goldie ways, glad it’s not just us. I must remember to bring something to shove in his mouth when out walking as I find that stressful at times, that he may try to consume a part of someone. And jumping up is a thing. Better than it was but still. And now he loves the water he’s often soaked, which gives me the fear he’ll ruin peoples clothes. I’ll post another cute one after a dip…

@userxx people use to say to me when he was about 6m "he will be great when he's 4 or 5"!!! I use to cry at the thought 😂

Sunflowers765 · 05/05/2023 23:07

SunPup was a little angel (mostly) between 4-6 months. He's now nearly 9 months old and OMG it's tough!
Completely deaf to my plaintive calls, would go home with another dog family if I didn't haul him away, obsessed with smelling everything, peeing on everything (fortunately only outside!!) jumping on every dog he can find, oh, and the PULLING!!! He would rather choke himself if it means getting to the lamppost to sniff and pee 2 seconds quicker.
And running away and jumping in the river when he's supposed to be doing his agility lesson...
He redeems himself by being really affectionate, 100% toilet trained and sleeping all night from 10:30-8am. And he doesn't chew anything!
And hey ho it's only another year or so of teenage hooligan 🙄🙄 🤞🤞

Orangebadger · 05/05/2023 23:24

@Sunflowers765 Orangepup sounds identical! But not a lab. I have heard that the puppy phase of basset Fauves is very long too, up to 18 months to 2 years. We're at 7 months and I feel we are just at the start of the hardest bit! 😬😬

Hi will join new thread and make an effort to post, not just read and run! Iris is now 8 months old and really calming down! She's just gorgeous 💜 although she is badly chewing everything! No toothbrush or shoe is safe! Any tips on what I can do? She has millions of chew toys, just likes stuff that has our scent on probably!

Obligatory picture attached!

@Orangebadger we need to hang in there! I'm sure they'll be wonderful dogs in, say, a year or two😂😂
Sunpup is fab in the house though, it's just out and about he's a bit challenging! I had a show line lab bitch before Sunpup and she was so different - really placid laid back and not bothered about other dogs really. Sunpup is the complete opposite! Serves me right for going with a working line male!! Glad he's not my first dog I think I'd send him back!!

pookiedoodlepuppy · 06/05/2023 15:00

All your dogs look completely wonderful !

NoWordForFluffy · 06/05/2023 15:21

Can I also join? We have a 7 month old red fox lab who is mostly great, though does have his destructive moments!

He can go a bit crazy on walks, but also can walk so nicely next to you as well (which he knows, as he asks for a treat by grinning up at you!).

He could be way worse, so overall he's a great pup!
