Name for a golden retriever puppy

DebbieHarryIsMyMum · 14/04/2023 17:49

Ok this is my second dog thread in one day but I’m excited.

Having trouble agreeing on a name for a golden retriever girl puppy. Not keen on the most popular names like Molly, Daisy, Nala, Bessie etc, they’re nice but a bit blah. But equally don’t need anything too “you-neeque”.

Our list at the moment, with suggestions from the whole family, is:

Ripley
Jura
Juno
Margot
Crumble
Dolly
Madame Kazam
Toastie
Minnie
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Winnie
Sookie
Roastie
Debbie Harry

Any thoughts on faves from this list or other suggestions??

Debbie would sound awesome hollered across a field at a dog rolling in a cowpat.

🧐🤣🤣🙈

2reefsin30knots · 14/04/2023 18:26

Ethel? (Short for Æthelflæd- shout that when she's rolling in a cowpat).

BenCoopersSupportWren · 14/04/2023 18:28

Love Crumble from your list OP.

I like Scottish or related names for Goldens, it being a Scottish breed originally: Piper, Shona, Alba (especially if she’s a paler cream), Bracken (if she’s properly golden), Ceilidh, Kelpie, Briar, Iona, Merida (again especially if deep gold), Madra.

SorePaw · 14/04/2023 18:31

I like human names, it tickles me, so Debbie?! It would make me laugh calling her

BUT

Thevrest if the time I'd feel mean saddling her with that!

sarah/sally??

out of your list, I love Toast & Crumble, but I couldn't use either. I'm a low carber for health reasons (not weight loss) and it would just make me crave all the carbs!!

My old girl was Katie x

LysHastighed · 14/04/2023 18:33

Custard
Daffodil
Caramac

2reefsin30knots · 14/04/2023 18:33

Sally is good.

ArcticBells · 14/04/2023 18:34

Goldie. I know it's obvious but I like it Smile

shockthemonkey · 14/04/2023 18:34

I like Danaerys Targaryen (from game of thrones).

Dani for short.

Shes the wild and beautiful queen/mother of dragons in case you never watched Game of Thrones.

A friend called theirs Pudding and it suits him well but not sure that’s fair for a girl.

How could we possibly choose a name without seeing a photo? (Preferably lots of photos)

Yes thems the roolz. No photo, no play ball <or fetch>.

DebbieHarryIsMyMum · 14/04/2023 18:46

Loving the suggestions, please keep them coming!

I’m the Buffy and Blondie fan, but meeting string resistance from the family!

I like Scottish names too for the reason you mentioned, also lived in Scotland for a long time. Alba was on the list but was vetoed. But Jura is still a strong contender!

Dilly
Flo
Martha
Penny
Ruby - Tuesday

All these were on my list but vetoed, apart from Martha but that’s my aunt’s name so don’t think she’d be best pleased 😆

Unbelievably cute 😍😍😍

cocolocoe · 14/04/2023 18:54

Oh my word. That's one cute puppy! If only they stayed like that, I'd probably have 20! 😂

shadowchancesassy · 14/04/2023 18:57

Merida (merry for short)
Cassie
Roma
Micah

FettleOfKish · 14/04/2023 18:23

I know a retriever called Toast and he's the best. I like Margot though, I'd love to meet a dog called Margot.

I know two dogs called Margot. One of them.has a sister called Vera which is another great name.

I love Debbie Harry as a name.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 14/04/2023 19:06

Little bit rude to only post one pic of the puppy if you want help naming her - I feel we need at least 3/4, along with a full description of her delightful little puppy smell and antics.

Shan't offer any assistance until you comply!!! 🐶 😂

pookiedoodlepuppy · 14/04/2023 19:11

@Milkand2sugarsplease Ah yes that puppy smell . Do you mean puppy farts ?😉Or that smell when they yawn in your face ?

Aria20 · 14/04/2023 19:13

Amber

Riverlee · 14/04/2023 19:15

She’s adorable.

Dolly or Debbie from your list.

Alternatives :
Amber
Honey
Primrose
Lupin
Poppy

SpideysMummy · 14/04/2023 19:16

I love Ripley and Crumble.

I think she looks like a Crumble.

I also think Debbie Harry is an excellent name for a golden retriever fwiw.

FayCarew · 14/04/2023 19:17

Bess

Panicmode1 · 14/04/2023 19:21

So gorgeous. (Our GR is a Rosie...not exactly original but chosen by my 8 yr old!).

Citygirlrurallife · 14/04/2023 19:21

I like Crumble and Debbie Harry on your list

we have a big GR and after MUCH discussion decided on Haku, after a character in one of our favourite films. Can’t tell you how glad I am that he knows his name in a sea of other dog names that end with an eeee sound though!

otherwise I’m generally a fan of naming pets after literary or film characters though! Maybe think of some of your favourite book characters?
