Just that really! Do you allow your dog upstairs?

OP posts:
Crazyinlove123 · 12/04/2023 06:47

not during the day but they come up with me when I go to bed.

BernadetteIsMySister · 12/04/2023 06:48

Yes but we didn't as a puppy and as a result he doesn't really go up there unless we encourage him and even then he doesn't stay. He sleeps downstairs.

Not at all. We had a child’s stair gate fitted when he was a puppy ( fitted for him as the children were older by then). We removed it after a few months but he had learned by then that he wasn’t allowed upstairs, so he never tried. He was obedient in some ways and not in others!

Wallingtonhall · 12/04/2023 06:57

Mine associates upstairs with a bath…so he keeps well away! 😂

Giggorata · 12/04/2023 07:07

No, and they are only allowed into certain rooms downstairs as well.

Auntieobem · 12/04/2023 07:09

Yes of course! How would she get to bed otherwise??

Lol - in her dog bed, downstairs

Timeforchangeithink · 12/04/2023 07:18

Yes. Two collies who have the run of the house. One sleeps at the side of the bed and the other on the bed at the end.

TakeMyStrongHand · 12/04/2023 07:19

Yes. When they are teeny pups I set all the boundaries and make sure they understand this is based on good behaviour. Same with the sofa.

However, this dog just isn't in to that. Sometimes I wake up and he is on the bed but mostly if he comes upstairs he sleeps at the top of the stairs guarding. He also does rounds in the night to check we are ok.

Cinpple · 12/04/2023 07:21

No, mine isn't allowed in any rooms with carpet. I do let him on the sofa but it's covered with throws that I can wash.

RockSocks · 12/04/2023 07:21

No
I have previously always had breeds with hip problems so they have never been allowed up stairs or to do much jumping

My bedroom is now downstairs and the rule still stands
I don't mind dogs in the bedroom I just don't like them going up and down my steep narrow stairs

GobbieMaggie · 12/04/2023 07:22

No, under no circumstances.

mamnotmum · 12/04/2023 07:24

Yes. She sleeps on our bedroom floor and when I'm in the house follows me from room to room.

hattie43 · 12/04/2023 07:43

Yep full run of the house .

Luckycat1 · 12/04/2023 07:47

Yes, she's free to roam the house.

GoodnightJude1 · 12/04/2023 07:50

Nope. Labrador puppy (8mo) he’s never been upstairs. I grew up with dogs and my mum never allowed them upstairs so I guess I’ve followed suit in that respect.
My brother on the other hand has 3 Rottweilers and they all sleep in his bedroom! Each to their own!

shiningstar2 · 12/04/2023 07:52

Yes. Follows is about during the day. Not allowed on the bed though and sleeps in her own bed in the kitchen at night

bengalcat · 12/04/2023 07:52

Yes dog sleeps on the bed

BeeBB · 12/04/2023 07:53

No its hard enough keeping downstairs clean and would also feel it was unhygienic having them in bed or the bedrooms.

QueenofLouisiana · 12/04/2023 07:54

No. Only because he is an ex-racing greyhound who never learned to use them.

He got up once and it took hours to coax him down as he was so scared. At about 40kg I can’t carry him.

His cosy beds, blankets and toys are downstairs so he sleeps there. He sings the song of his people when it’s time to get up.

mycatsanutter · 12/04/2023 07:54

Yes , if she wakes up before us she comes upstairs and jumps on the bed and goes straight back to sleep , does not sleep upstairs ever thou , I don't want her in the bedroom all night .

BiddyPop · 12/04/2023 07:56

She's allowed up in the daytime when we're home - to the study and the spare room. She sometimes sneaks into our room but we usually keep that closed.

She sleeps downstairs. And when we're out, we close the doors so she can't get to the stairs but has the run of the sitting room to the front and kitchen at the back of the house. And can get out to the garden as we got a cat flap for that purpose.

Ricco12 · 12/04/2023 07:59

At night he sleeps downstairs on sofa , but has the free run of house during day but mostly chooses to sit downstairs as we are there.

As soon as we go out and leave him alone he races upstairs to sprawl out on our bed , pretty much the whole time till we come home. When we get home I go upstairs to wake him up, and he they comes back down.

He is a Staffordshire bull terrier.

PickledPuffin · 12/04/2023 08:00

Yes. We have a little Westie. He has a bed on the sofa which he shares with the cat and when we go to bed, he comes with us.

He has his own bed in our bedroom and occasionally sleeps with us on our bed, but not very often as our legs get in his way and then he gets grumpy and gets back to his own bed. Pity about him 😅.
