Just that really! Do you allow your dog upstairs?

OP posts:

Yep, ddog started off downstairs at night but gradually got fed up with that so up he came. Slept in our bed, liked to sleep in the shower tray in the day when it was hot.

He's blind now and won't do the stairs anymore, and if we carry him up for bed it disoriented him and it's dangerous if eg he falls off the bed or down the stairs.

I miss his furry warmth in the bed. Let the dog upstairs!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/04/2023 18:11

No but they sneak up most days

Bluelightbaby · 12/04/2023 18:13

My dogs (now with my ex husband) had free run of the entire house

Stressybetty · 12/04/2023 18:15

Yes but within reason as we have 6 dogs and I don't trust them not to be bouncing on the beds. Spare room, bathroom and MIL doors are kept shut and our bedroom door is shut during the day. They have access at night just to our bedroom and beds on our floor.

Does he sleep on bed or by bed?

what breed?

On my bed 😬. I have 2. A Chihuahua cross and bichon cross.

Hooveslikejagger · 12/04/2023 18:20

Only comes up to sleep at night, although will occasionally go upstairs in the day if someone is up there, but generally comes back down fairly quickly. He is free to have the run of the house, but generally chooses to stay downstairs.

DonttouchthatLarry · 12/04/2023 18:22

Yes they sleep in our room, either on the bed or on dog beds on the floor.

DarkForces · 12/04/2023 18:25

Dogs aren't allowed upstairs in our house but dd and ddog disagree. There's now an exemption just for her so she's allowed upstairs but definitely not in our bedroom.

stargirl1701 · 12/04/2023 18:25

No. We have a working black lab. Stairs would be bad for her hips.

LunaNorth · 12/04/2023 18:26

Yes - and we have a special little set of steps so our oldest little dog can get up onto the bed 😂

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 12/04/2023 18:29

Yes sleeps with us as does the cat. Snuggle heaven 😂

ilovepixie · 12/04/2023 18:51

Of course. She's part of the family. She sleeps beside me in bed too.

QOD · 12/04/2023 18:53

Allow her upstairs ?
she is in charge of the house and tells me when I have to go to bed because she wants to go to bed

QueenofLouisiana · 12/04/2023 19:37

@QOD our last dog was like that. When she was in her last months she liked to retire to bed by about 9pm. We would end up watching TV in bed, as she required our company 🤣

Wonderland19 · 12/04/2023 20:17

Yes and no, he is allowed if invited up. Some times he's allowed to sleep on the bed before he goes downstairs to his. And sometimes he will do the great escape and lay proudly at the top of the stairs peering down.

My main reason for him not being allowed up, is he's still in a puppy phase where he would chew the wooden wardrobe draw knobs, and get up to mischief. Also the door opens straight onto the stairs and I worry he may run, not that he ever has.

pawsandponies · 12/04/2023 22:15

Mine are although our bedroom is downstairs so they don't often bother. Rottweiler and labradoodle

KitKatLove · 12/04/2023 22:38

Nope but each to their own.

We don't have stairs😁. Had 3 dogs in our last house,2 border collies, and a Phalane. Dog flap trained, slept in utility room,so they could go outside. One died suddenly, Phalane wouldn't sleep downstairs with the other one,so he graduated to the bed. Moved here, put them in the conservatory at night, tall puppy gate, the border collie broke it down every night, was damaging the door and frame, she never came in the bedroom though. Up till January when we lost the toy, they both (different border collie) and he,slept in between us, him up next to my shoulders, and her longwise past him. She has a special routine now. Goes to bed at 9,on our bed, then in her bed. Goes out for a wee around midnight then on my side, head on my legs. In the morning, she's leaning on DH. They both had beds in our room, one each side of the wardrobes.

Nanalisa60 · 29/04/2023 19:54

O yes, got the dog dh says well he is not coming up the stairs , has to sleep in kitchen, well of course that did not last, now sleeps on the floor next to my dh side of the bed, because they just love each other so much.

My dog is like this, bossy little things aren't they!!😂😂

DailyMaui · 30/04/2023 00:10

Do I allow my dog to go upstairs?

My dog has his own bloody bedroom with double bed.

We did an extension to get, amongst other things, a fourth bedroom for guests as my parents used to visit a lot from France.

The dog seems to be under the impression that the room was specially made for him and sleeps in there every night. On the bed. Living the doggy dream.

Prior to covid he would have reluctantly vacated when people came over but now he really thinks it is his bedroom. All his toys are in there and it is where he stashes the stolen hairy cushions from downstairs...

Fabellini · 30/04/2023 00:14

Nope. Upstairs is the cats domain and she guards it fiercely.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2023 00:20

Yes. Velcro dog goes where I go, so when I go upstairs he comes with me.

BSB30 · 30/04/2023 00:20

Yes, our dog goes wherever. Only time we don't let her upstairs is when she has an upset tummy as we don't want that everywhere. Other than that, she usually sleeps in our bed every night.
