Do I allow my dog to go upstairs?

My dog has his own bloody bedroom with double bed.

We did an extension to get, amongst other things, a fourth bedroom for guests as my parents used to visit a lot from France.

The dog seems to be under the impression that the room was specially made for him and sleeps in there every night. On the bed. Living the doggy dream.

Prior to covid he would have reluctantly vacated when people came over but now he really thinks it is his bedroom. All his toys are in there and it is where he stashes the stolen hairy cushions from downstairs...

I absolutely love this 😂🤣. I read it out to my DH and we were both laughing. Love that he has his own room 😁

We have a sausage and she’s not allowed up during the day because even though she races up the stairs like a rat up a drainpipe I’d be scared about her trying to get back downstairs by herself.

also she’s partial to giving Barbie a bit of hand and foot surgery so to keep toys and dolls safe and reduce the risk of bloody enormous vets bills and distraught children that’s another reason.

but bedtime? She’s bloody queuing at the bottom of the stairs with the cat to go upstairs to bed! She has a crate in our room and sleeps in there but she loves our bed and if she could reach she’d be up there like a shot

No, both dogs sleep in the lounge in their baskets with blankets.

LabelleLabelle · 30/04/2023 07:44

yes. Previous owner did not so I was expecting to be able to leave him downstairs but he howled and howled and I just cracked. He used to sleep inside the bed but he’s stopped now he feels more secure and he will even sleep on his own bed in the room or he likes to guard the top of the stairs at night. He doesn’t chew. He is a prolific tiny wee wee territory marking dog, so he wears a male dog wrap all night.

😁Love this, thanks for making me smile this morning @DailyMaui !
He sounds like quite a character!

Ours sleeps in her crate downstairs. She isn't allowed upstairs because she turns into a Tasmanian devil. She leaps on and off our bed, grabs anything she can find, hoping to be chased and will not settle.
However on holidays she is a different dog. We have her crate in our room and when we let her out to say good morning she jumps on the bed , settles with a deep sigh and falls back to sleep.

Yes, she's allowed anywhere in the house.

That being said she wants to be with her people so only goes upstairs when we're upstairs.

She sleeps on her own mat on the bedroom floor as she doesn't like being accidentally kicked when we turn over during the night (it makes her very grumpy and she does a little grumbly growl and gives you a very dirty look!) Grin

Once we're awake she asks for permission to come onto the bed which is quite sweet as we didn't teach her that!

wheresmymojo · 06/05/2023 13:56

Basically our pets are family...

We don't have any rules about them 'not being allowed to...' aside from having to toilet outside since they can't use a toilet!

They can sit on the sofas (we have throws we can wash). They can go in any room they please (we hoover and clean the carpets regularly).

He's not banned from upstairs but I want to get him used to being alone (he's 11mo and hates being left) so I tend to leave him downstairs if I go up for something. Otherwise he's allowed up at bedtime. He starts off lying next to us, then the bottom of the bed and finally on the floor. He snuffles my face to wake me up but stands on my hubby to wake him up lol, 16kg.

Get a lock fitted on your bedroom door. Problem solved.

Spanielsarepainless · 02/06/2023 13:03

No, mine have never been allowed upstairs nor on the furniture. They have lovely doggy beds in our back room. But other people do otherwise.

Sitdowncupoftea · 02/06/2023 15:50

No , my dog is allowed where he wants downstairs but not upstairs.
