What human food does your dog eat?

HandbagsnGladrags · 27/11/2022 09:43

Looking to mix up my fussy dog's diet a bit but want to make sure we're not giving him anything we shouldn't. He eats kibble, wet food, chicken a lot of the time. We also give him (occasionally):

Scrambled egg
Plain pancakes
Banana
Carrot
Sardines

What else can we give him of our food for a bit of variety?

Mine eats whatever she can get her paws on, but is fond of broccoli stalks.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/11/2022 09:47

Almost anything except fruit or veg. Her faves are pizza crusts and prawn crackers but she doesn't get them often. She is a Labrador. What can I say!

Ha, gotta love a Lab's appetite!

Mine gets the odd chip as a treat a well. First time dog owner so very conscious of trying not to feed him too much crap.

Ours goes mad for the drained water off a can of tuna, or if he gets a little bit of actual tinned tuna it’s his best day!

WorldLeaderPretend · 27/11/2022 09:58

Ours also loves pizza crusts but will eat any leftovers with gusto. Pasta is a huge favourite too. He will only eat his kibble if we add a "human food" topper, but he is a poodle mix and they are known to be fussy!

bitfit · 27/11/2022 09:59

Anything. He's a black lab.

bitfit · 27/11/2022 10:00

Posted too soon.

His absolute favourite is a frozen chip. Won't look at them when they're cooked but as soon as he hears them coming out the freezer he's straight over. He's weird.

thelobsterquadrille · 27/11/2022 10:01

Anything that's not bad for him, really. We just adjust his meals accordingly. Over the past week he's had:

Fish fingers
Toast crusts
Tomatoes
Chicken
Cocktail sausages
Cheese
Petit Filous (he loves licking out the pots)
Peanut butter
Weetabix (he has some on his food everyday)
Tuna in spring water

He's healthy as anything and according to the vet, "a perfect weight for a beagle" apparently most of the beagles she sees are hugely overweight so I felt rather smug 🤣

He also gets a natural chew everyday but his main meal is small to accommodate all the extras Blush

Same. Although mines a she.

She has a carrot every evening and a handful of frozen peas. Loves a crisp or hula hoop - I’m blaming DH for that habit. Loves some grated cheese.

I try not to give her any crap and if we have leftovers that are suitable for her I give them to her with her evening kibble and reduce the size of the kibble.

we had a pear tree in our previous garden and she loved a pear. Was spotted hanging from the branches pulling pears down at one point.

SirChenjins · 27/11/2022 10:09

Salmon and the skin
Any meat - if he gets steak trimmings he’s a v happy doggo
Mince, brown rice, chopped green beans and sweet potato all cooked up together - he gets that most nights mixed with his kibble, he’s on Butchers or Lilly’s Kitchen wet for his other meals
Sausages
Grated cheese
Squirty cream (not often obvs - a squirt of that is a v special treat)
Sliced cold meat

Ours is a poodle mix too.

Mine too eats anything and everything (apart from the stuff he's not supposed to like grapes, onions, chocolate etc...)
I put yogurt on a lick mat.
You've already mentioned carrot, he likes them frozen. He likes a cabbage to play with too. His favourite is sweet potato (but not the skin).
Anything meat.

BT11 · 27/11/2022 10:17

My border terrier eats everything except the obvious poisonous things grapes, onions etc.

He especially loves broccoli and loves a roast dinner every Sunday (very spoilt on Sundays 😉)

He loves oranges and watermelon in the summer

Diplidocus4 · 27/11/2022 10:21

@ApolloandDaphne
Ours are prawn cracker fiends also !

TrianglePlayer · 27/11/2022 10:22

Ours love it when we peel carrots and give them the peelings. Love broccoli. Frozen peas. Salmon is a massive favourite.

MissDollyMix · 27/11/2022 10:27

Everything including the stuff she’s not supposed to! This time last year she managed to get her paws on an entire tub of celebrations and scoff the lot. Wrappers an’ all. Took her to the vet who didn’t pump her stomach as there was no point as she’d passed the time threshold for that to be effective. After a series of tests etc she was declared right as rain and sent home without any further issues- save the fact she was shitting wrappers for at least a week. I don’t advise this as a pet care method though. She’s also stolen a pack of butter before. That wasn’t very pleasant for any of us!
On a healthier note she loves to hang by my feet whilst I’m chopping the veg- frozen peas, carrot peelings, apple peelings, broccoli stalks all very popular. She’s also partial to pizza crust too.

HowmuchcanispendatChristmas · 27/11/2022 10:34

My three love cucumber, tinned tuna and the juice, grated cheese , carrot . Husband buys a whole cooked chicken each week and they’ll have that throughout the week. Easy to put in freezer bags and get out . I also buy fish oil and add to their food which is great for their coats.

SirChenjins · 27/11/2022 10:38

Oh and yy to prawn crackers! Wonder what it is about them. Ours is a poo mix as well, v fussy.

summergone · 27/11/2022 10:41

Tuna , rice , pasta , peas , fish skin ,sausages

TheFlis12345 · 27/11/2022 10:49

Ours is obsessed with cucumber and broccoli stalks, he comes running as soon as I get them out of the fridge, the little weirdo. He also likes a few blueberries, green beans or peas sprinkled on his food. His best day ever is when we have a roast chicken as I give him the wing tips raw, and then some of the cooked meat scraps off the carcass afterwards.

JustLikeJasper · 27/11/2022 10:50

Mine will pretty much eat anything and everything but like PPs prawn crackers are her fave

FinallyFluid · 27/11/2022 10:57

Border Collie

If he got his way anything that is not pinned down.

He gets three roast potatoes on a Monday morning and he takes them back to bed one by one and stays there until he has scoffed them.

During lockdown, we consoled ourselves on Christmas day with a very expensive cheesboard, we left it on the coffee table in the garden room.

I came down on Boxing day started tidying up and said to DH blimey you hammered the cheese board last night, he replied I didn't have anymore, we checked with DS and then watched as the dog slunk out of the room. 😂

Upon closer inspection , he really likes Kerrygold butter but is not mad about Stilton.

We eventually figured out that he scoffed it whilst we were in the breakfast room playing the sock game, he must have been like a ninja we never heard a thing.

Dartmoorcheffy · 27/11/2022 11:01

Cheese
Apple
Haggis
Black Pudding
Carrots
Pasta
Kebab
Banana
Bacon
Iced coffee (caught him with his head in my glass so many times , he won't drink any other thing apart from water)

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 27/11/2022 11:05

Our golden retriever would eat anything.

He loves his fruit & veg:

Banana
Apples
Watermelon
Carrot
Cucumber
Berries

This morning I added a bit of Greek yoghurt & bananas to his breakfast and he was a very happy boy.

He also likes cubes of cheese.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 27/11/2022 11:06

Anything out of a tin, squirty cream, grated cheese and the last crisp in the pack. Whenever he hears/sees these things he EXPECTS some. Other than that, anything else I’m eating, except, for some bizarre reason, roast freshly shot duck! 🤔
