What human food does your dog eat?

HandbagsnGladrags · 27/11/2022 09:43

Looking to mix up my fussy dog's diet a bit but want to make sure we're not giving him anything we shouldn't. He eats kibble, wet food, chicken a lot of the time. We also give him (occasionally):

Scrambled egg
Plain pancakes
Banana
Carrot
Sardines

What else can we give him of our food for a bit of variety?

1/2 lab so loves everything

bloodyeverlastinghell · 27/11/2022 11:40

I make my dog a burger on burger night. I take hers out before I season the meat and put some blue cheese in the middle. Spoilt Labrador.

Loads of great ideas - thanks!

Coconut oil
Mackerel
Steamed veg

Our Jack R is very fussy & only eats dog food if no other option. When cooking dinner we make extra for the dog, she waits under the table for her dinner when we are cooking.

Particularly loves curry leftovers ( though do we do mix it with a lot of rice! )

Doje · 27/11/2022 14:06

DDog loves roasted sweet potato. He doesn't get loads of 'human food', but will always be hanging around if I'm chopping cucumber, carrots, broccoli, peppers and especially cheese. He can hear the fridge door opening from any part of the house!

tizwozliz · 27/11/2022 14:27

We have a faulty lab

She loves toast corners, cheese, sweet potato, carrots, any sort of meat, yoghurt, apple, mange tout.

She is not interested in any sort of berry, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes (handy since I grow them in the garden)

She'll eat watermelon but only if it's cut in a particular way (slivers not chunks) and veg like peas, green beans, broccoli is hit and miss.

I'm most disappointed that I still have to clean crumbs from the floor, I thought with a lab all traces of food on the floor would be inhaled.

OhPeggySue · 27/11/2022 14:32

Cottage cheese.

Crabwoman · 27/11/2022 14:42

Blueberries
Tomato juice
Raw carrots

PritiPatelsMaker · 27/11/2022 16:02

Blueberries
Tomato juice
Raw carrots

Mine loves blueberries, raspberries and raw carrot. She also likes cucumber, especially when it was hot.

We've never tried tomato juice though. Might try that as she does like the odd bit of tomato when it comes her way Wink

Quveas · 27/11/2022 16:07

What he might like and what he gets are not the same thing.

He gets mackeral/ sardines/ kippers and occasionally other fish - and likes the skin /leftovers from smoked haddock. Cheese occasionally. Milk from time to time to maintain his tolerance to lactose. Yoghurt - he loves yoghurt. And he likes sharing fish and chips (his bit has no salt but he is partial to a touch of vinegar).

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/11/2022 16:07

I have 2 lab's and they would eating anything they could get their paws on.
1 lab like's fruit, veg and mushrooms, other turns her nose up at mushrooms.
Carrots, they love carrots.
Strawberries especially frozen in the hot weather.

LostSleep · 27/11/2022 16:08

Blueberries
Watermelon
Bananas
Strawberries
Any left overs or things dropped by the toddler

PritiPatelsMaker · 27/11/2022 16:09

Same here. DDog's preference is Food but we have to be careful as she's older and was shaped like a tub of lard when we got her.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 27/11/2022 16:11

Mine’s also a lab, so all of it and more please! He has a portion of what we’re having for tea or just the meat of not suitable but he does love spicy food! Particular favourites are tuna, pate, pizza, cheese or any meat of course. He doesn’t like peanut butter and seems to know he’s not allowed chocolate or raisins. He also won’t eat dog kibble so he’s raw fed. He’s very spoilt!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/11/2022 16:13

My Beagle would have had conniptions if we'd failed to give him his Sunday Dinner.

It was the only time he would inform the herd of cats that actually, he was A DOG and they were not entitled to his chicken, potatoes, carrots, swede, broccoli, cauliflower or steamed courgette sticks. The rest of the time, he'd share anything with them.

Took my young lab for a walk on the beach earlier this year. My eldest and I went to Macdonald's and I got pup her own plain burger and she inhaled it.

lipstickwoman · 27/11/2022 16:14

It would be easier to tell you what she won't eat.

We don't give her anything with onions, citrus fruit or chocolate.

She especially likes tuna, gravy (meat juices), cheese, carrots.

RoseDog · 27/11/2022 16:22

My staffie eats anything and everything as long as it's not on the toxic to dog list except lettuce, she will not eat lettuce!

Madlymumming · 27/11/2022 16:33

Be careful with giving carrot. My cocker loves a raw carrot and they have been a regular treat but she has developed Struvite crystals in her bladder.

These are caused by a high PH level .... carrots are apparently alkaline.

I feel guilty now for her 'healthy' snacks causing discomfort. And a shit load of vet bills lol

Mine loves a McNugget Grin

ReadtheReviews · 27/11/2022 16:41

Mine get potato, broccoli, sometimes a bit or pasta or rice. If we have fish they get some of that.

Frequency · 27/11/2022 16:43

He's a Beagle aka a walking dustbin. He eats everything and anything remotely edible. In terms of what I give him as opposed to what he takes...

Carrots
Apple slices
cucumber
watermelon (minus the seeds and rind)
blueberries
raspberries - he actually helps himself to these straight off the raspberry bush in the garden.
peanut butter
broccolli
fish
cheese

The peel or scraps of most veg when we're cooking.

And although it's not a human food per se, sprats. He loves them. He's fed them raw and defrosted as part of a meal or straight from the freezer as a treat.

Sparklefoof · 27/11/2022 16:44

Another prawn cracker lover here! Also toast, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, potatoes of any description (although she's not keen on McD's fries), salmon, tuna, mackerel, satdines chicken, ham etc. She loves Sainsburys slices of liver sausage. And frozen peas! On the sweet side, ginger biscuits or custard creams are her preference although obvs not very often, and only one as a treat.

GuyFawkesDay · 27/11/2022 16:45

He'd have anything he can get his gannet chops around but mainly:

Sausages. The lad will bend over backwards for them.
Eggs. Scrambled with water.
Plain Greek yoghurt
Pumpkin puree
Carrot (raw occasionally and cooked)
Watermelon
Frozen peas/veg mix on his dinner.
Cheese for bribery purposes.
