Puppy thread 2021 alumni, where are you now?

Hi gain, I fell off the puppy thread a while ago but have been wondering how all the pups (now dogs I guess!) are getting on?

Billy is 18 month old now and is the most gorgeous, good boy we could ask for. He was neutered on Wednesday so has been feeling a bit sorry for himself as he wants to get back to playing in the fields and he doesn’t like his special collar (but completely freaked out at the cone the vet sent him home in!). He’s thriving on raw food and is super fit and shiny but he is a typical greedy lab and could happily eat all day long 😂. He totally failed at gun dog training but is a super star at agility and fly ball (although he is having to miss a few weeks while he recovers). The only bad thing now is that he’s decided 5:30 is time to get up in the morning 🙈.

It feels like those early days of wondering what the hell we’d done are a life time ago 🥰.

He's always been a needy cuddler so I haven't noticed difference there.

Less peeing up things. No more willy juice on furniture 🫣

It's hasn't changed him one bit really

When I say needy cuddler I mean 19kg of lap dog. He's absolutely pathetic. He'd climb under you clothes to cuddle closer if he could

@GuyFawkesDay is he quite barky with the neediness? Mine has become very barky lately barking if I leave a room and the door blows shut for example! Barking at me to play with her at random times even when she's had good exercise/mental stimulation! She's basically being a barky needy pain in the arse at home and DH hates the barking so much. She is generally good out though.

We're away for the weekend at a forest cabin. Ada goes insane barking if we both get in the hot tub so we have to take turns. Good as gold otherwise!

I had a memory pop up today saying a year ago I'd started to relax on walks a bit and was waiting for it all to go backwards. The backwards never really materialized thank goodness.

She doesn't really look that different either, I'm sure half the reason we get compliments on her behaviour is people think she's much younger than she is!

Yeah he can be a bit barky especially when he wants to play, and still mouths, for example he will grab you with his mouth and pull you to show you what he wants eg if his toy is under the furniture. Little git.

He's definitely loads better though. Far less daft and reactionary

Billy’s not a barky dog, he tries if a stranger comes to the door but he does this almost whispered bark or pathetic growl that wouldn’t scare anyone 😂. Like @GuyFawkesDay says, he’d climb right inside my clothes if he could! Oh god yes, I’d forgotten about the Willy juice, that’s definitely the best thing about neutering!

Hello!!!! PoirotPup will be 2 in a couple of weeks and is a lovely softy lazy dog, but can go on a nice long walk too!

He is now neutered (daycare) which we weren’t sure about, but it hasn’t changed his personality at all so that’s good.

@GuyFawkesDay if I remember rightly you have a slide on Id tag for his collar? I'm thinking of swapping to this from a traditional metal id tag. Do you recommend it?

Yes!!! We are stil on our first one from when he was a puppy. I used Flexitags.

There are different sizes depending on the width of collar. We did manage to break one of the silicon bands so had to buy another. We have them on both our collars now.

Ah she's lovely sitting smartly. Mine is 2 on Sunday! Bloody stupid dog could have got herself killed yesterday, she was offlead in park near our house and she spotted a cat in a bush and started to chase it - she was deaf to me, to toys, to food.... the cat ran down a huge bank and across a road into the forest and she followed it! Once the cat had gone out of reach in the forest, she ran back across the road to me no care in the world like "yea sorry mum had to chase that cat away".

Thank god we live in a quiet area and there's not many cars around! She has never chased like that before or run across roads before... I will not be walking there for a while so she doesn't try that again.

Poor Billy has been sick for nearly a week now 😢. It seems there’s a bug going round our village as quite a few dogs have the same thing. He’s most disgusted at only being fed chicken and rice!

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Can't believe she's a big girl now! She got lots and lots of treats and the humans had carrot cake, so everyone was happy.

@Aria20 how terrifying! Thank goodness there were no cars about. We had one occasion where she dashed over a road to sniff at rabbit holes. She just took off without any warning and went.

@Idratherbepaddleboarding that's rubbish. Hope he feels better soon.

Get better soon Billy. FawkesPup has a bit of an off tummy. Nothing mega but soft poo and really bloody smelly wind 🤢

Just as we think his skin issues are sorted they come back. It's so frustrating. I'll up the medicated baths etc again.

We practiced some fence jumping as well at the weekend. Might live to regret that as up to now she hasn't been aware it's possible to jump a fence
