@MrsWhites I even googled a cure.
On his back and rub his belly!

mrsfeatherbottom · 14/10/2022 22:13

Our pup used to get hiccups quite often when we first got her. Apparently it's very common. She's grown out of it now

Rowgtfc72 · 15/10/2022 08:27

Morning!
Dh put pup in the crate at half 10 with a bit of whinging. He woke us up howling at just gone 4. Result!!!!
I'm up at 330am for work on a weekday and on a normal week dh usually goes to bed at 11pm. If he'll keep to those times nobody will die of lack of sleep!😁

Riverlee · 15/10/2022 11:45

Well done puppy Row.

Riverpup had been sleeping through to 6am, but it seems to be getting earlier. Not looking forward to when the clocks change.

Rowgtfc72 · 15/10/2022 17:28

@Riverlee never thought of the clocks going back.
Next door neighbour says pup was quiet till she let hers out at 4 before work and her dog saw a fox and started barking.

Fingers crossed for quiet nights all round.

Riverlee · 16/10/2022 09:34

Anyone else started puppy training classes? Had our first one yesterday. Did ‘look’ (to get pup to look at you), heel, get dog to follow your leg whist on heel, and then walking. RiverPup was very jumpey, but was okay with so many other dogs around.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/10/2022 09:59

Don't know so much about puppy training but there are playtimes at a big fenced in field run by a trainer. Dh drives, I don't and we work opposite shifts so couldn't commit to something every week.
The playtimes are half an hour on Saturdays and you can dip in and dip out. We're going to try these for socialisation. They run puppy, small dog and a dachshund dash sessions every now and then.
Pup isn't jabbed till 31st Oct though. It's ages away!

JessieEssex · 16/10/2022 10:54

So Twiggy (9 weeks tomorrow) went in her crate at 10 last night and woke up at 6.30 this morning. I'm slightly bemused but very pleased - I definitely would have heard her if she woke in the night as I slept downstairs in case. I'm sure there will be bumps in the road but bloody hell I'm pleased. Hot water bottle in the crate and radio on quietly seem to have helped.
Presume I shouldn't have woken her in the night? She went straight out this morning and did a massive wee and a poo.
Sorry if this seems like showing off but I'm over the moon!

Riverlee · 16/10/2022 11:01

Getting a good nights sleeps is bliss.

Liftconfused · 16/10/2022 11:18

LiftDog had puppy class yesterday and was really good but he was absolutely done in and fell asleep early leading to crying at 4am for a wee he then didn’t want to settle and took forever to settle down again… he’s now sound asleep having his midday nap and we’re all walking around like one o’clock half struck… still it’s the first time he hasn’t slept through since about 9 weeks!

Riverlee · 16/10/2022 12:10

RiverPup was tired afterwards also. I guess its all that mental stimulation, excitement, new smells etc.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/10/2022 14:06

@JessieEssex oh well done!
We're on our second night of crate induced sleep. It's brilliant isn't it!
Show off all you want😁

JessieEssex · 16/10/2022 14:18

@Rowgtfc72 I'm just surprised it happened so quickly! She wasn't in a crate before we got her so I thought it would take some more getting used to. But she walked into it last night and fell asleep with a big sigh so I guess she likes it!

Rowgtfc72 · 16/10/2022 17:14

We spent all last week on the sofa sleep deprived as he whined every time he was put in his open crate. If we'd only known all we needed to do was shut the crate door.........

HollyJollypup · 16/10/2022 22:01

We start puppy training in a weeks time.

looking forward to it.

Toooldtoworry · 17/10/2022 06:24

We started puppy training from 10 weeks when he'd had his second jab. Pup is nearly 6 months now and after a short break we've gone back for the adolescent stage. He is a large bull breed (or will be when fully grown) and I am committed to ensuring he is completely neutral.

Autumn101 · 17/10/2022 09:53

We’ve done classes since 10 weeks - did 2 courses of 6 weeks each and now we do a monthly in person class, one zoom class and a monthly loose lead walk class. All with the same trainer which is fab as she now knows my dog so well and gives great advice and support.

HollyJollypup · 17/10/2022 11:53

I really wish I could Of started classes earlier but she wasn’t fully jabbed until 14 weeks and then the puppy classes I wanted to attend didn’t have any space for the sept run so I had to join the Oct ones!

Lucky really she’s pretty well behaved in general otherwise I would of been tearing my hair out.

Toooldtoworry · 17/10/2022 13:15

Well just found out that my middle dog might have kennel cough which is really irritating because he's been vaccinated against it. Pup has got a snotty nose so both are off to the vets tonight for checking and antibiotics, will probably have to cancel dog training this weekend.

MrsWhites · 17/10/2022 13:58

Where did you guys find a puppy class? Only ones I can see are run by the dogs trust and they aren’t convenient times for me.

We are having problems today with humping my teen daughters leg every time he sees her, going crazy on walks when we see other dogs and lots and lots of lots of chewing so far today!

HollyJollypup · 17/10/2022 14:01

We were recommended our puppy class by a couple of friends who have done them over the last couple of years.
One friend still does his adult classes and their dog is mostly well behaved 😂

Riverlee · 17/10/2022 16:16

@mrswhite Do you use Facebook? If so, post a request on a local site for recommendations for puppy classes. I did this with three being most recommended. I chose the one that fitted in with when RiverPup isn’t asleep, and they’re experienced with labs. They also do follow on course, gundog training, behavioural advice and lessons are backed with emails containing lesson plans etc, so more than just puppy classes.

Beginningless · 17/10/2022 22:16

Hello, we are bringing golden retriever pup home this weekend. I am so excited but also terrified! I have so many questions as I’m sure you all did but will start with one - a friend gave us a small crate which I thought we could use for first few weeks til he outgrows it. Now I see it though I think it would be snug and maybe it’s best for him to get used to the same space from the start? Although I have read a small cosy space for sleeping is good and discourages toileting in there. Any thoughts?

Polkadotties · 18/10/2022 07:34

My lab went straight into a 36in crate with a snuggly bed. She’s never messed in it.

vestedinterests · 18/10/2022 11:50

Does anyone have flea and worm treatment monthly subscription? have seen some for around £10pcm but wonder if it’s the same as buying over the counter. Our vet charges £27pcm for a lab which I think is a bit excessive (but it will include his boosters). Can’t sign up with pets at home as the vet there currently doesn’t accept new patients.
