I agree that the lepto2 lepto4 situation is annoying. Puppy should get the second jab on or around the 22nd but no vet in this part of the country is happy to give lepto2 and the ones that have some in stock, don't stock the same brand as the one he had already been given so need to start him on lepto4

Another thing I thought of - zoomies! My room downstairs is just not big enough to run round and round in and letting him outside to run around isn’t possible either due to the grass being dug up because of the chaffers and it’ll be dark anyway. What do you do when this happens, just let them get on with it or pop them in a crate so they can’t?

I am thinking of doing a last feed around 6.00pm with maybe a licky mat or kong later on to try and create a calming evening routine but am worried that this will make him want to make him poo too much during the night. Is there anyone who has tried this and how did it go?

My pup's last meal has always been at 7:00 p.m. When he was younger he'd have a frozen kong afterward to help him stay calm, though we phased that out when he became less of a loon in the evenings. 😀 His last trip outside for a wee is usually about 11:00 and he sometimes poos then, though not usually. As a very young puppy he slept through until 5:30 a.m. If I recall correctly, that is when he woke up for the first couple of weeks. After that he was fine until 7:00 or later. Nowadays I often have to wake him up!

Not all puppies will get the zoomies. If yours does and it isn't safe for him, you can try to distract him with a treat or toy. Most young puppies have the attention span of a gnat, so distraction can often work.

Re nighttime’s Haku gets a Kong/lucky mat and lots of Training treats all evening long to be honest, he usually doesn’t poo though for about 12hrs then shits all day long 😆

we went into London on the train yesterday and the outing exhausted him so much he slept through dinner time so I had to give him more food than usual in the later evening (8ish) and he did in fact need to go out for a poo at 2am

I’m finding much like with my Dc when they were babies, getting out of the house is so exciting and exhausting that he is much better behaved in the evenings - not even for major exercise necessarily but seeing new things and people seems to do the trick.

we’re going to start working on recall next I think - he’s settling into a lovely puppy who is remarkably chilled when out and about (see above comment!) and getting much better about jumping up and very rarely grabs clothes any more - for context he’s 14 weeks and we’ve had him almost a month. However not sleeping through still, I need to figure out whether I just go upstairs to bed rather than continue on the sofa in the next room, because I wake at every sound and probably go to him much sooner than I need to.

@TwinkleChristmas your post about weighing made me laugh - my 14week old weighed in at 14.5kg last week!!!

Ha ha I don’t think your bowls will be big enough !

Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 01:22

1.20am. Have put pup back in his crate 5 times once he's fallen asleep. He whines and howls every time. I wait till he's quiet to move and he howls.
He's currently napping on the sofa. I've had 20 mins sleep.
Sleeps fine in it during the day though.

MrsWhites · 12/10/2022 07:10

@Rowgtfc72 that sounds tough, lack of sleep is awful. If pup sleeps during the day could it be something like not liking the dark or it being so quiet, have you tried leaving a light or tv/radio on low?

Citygirlrurallife · 12/10/2022 07:15

@Rowgtfc72 where are you sleeping? First week we slept in the same room, now I sleep in the next room and go to him every time he whines, I don’t take him out but reassure him I’m here

Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 07:35

He's OK in the dark if I'm there. I'm in the front room, he's in the kitchen. Or should be.
I'm wondering if it is the dark.
During the day his crate is open. He's taken himself in there a few times.
At night we leave the crate open but in the playpen. He'll have to get used to the playpen for an hour for when i go back to work.
Did wonder about shutting the crate at night but it feels mean and I'm not doing it during the day.

HollyJollypup · 12/10/2022 08:01

I feel mean. I only slept in the same room for 2 nights and then went up to my room as she wasnt making any noise.

My poor pup was sick last night. 🥲 only thing I did different was give some raw egg with her kibble to try and get her to eat it.

Nugg · 12/10/2022 08:28

@Rowgtfc72 I wonder if we are close to one another from your username!

That sounds really tough - FWIW I closed the crate door and covered it with a blanket from day one. I used to leave the room door open where Nugget was but now I close it as I think we (me and the cats!) disturb her. She used to whine when I put her in it too awake, but when visibly tired was always ok, I sat next to it the first couple of times but then she did seem to be ok.

You poor thing, sleep deprivation it the pits - can you believe I am being woken hourly by my daughters almost 3 year old dog who barks at every sodding sound (and she is very used to being here!)

Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 08:55

@Nugg crate has a blanket half over it. Think at some point pup is going to have to go cold turkey and cry himself to sleep. I'm trying to keep him quiet and not wake dh and dd up but I'm back at work next week so need to crack it this week!

And yes, I'm a Mariners fan. 😁

Nugg · 12/10/2022 09:24

Haha We are local to one another then!

I have had to leave mine to settle alone during the day and it was about 15 mins is whining and howling initially (have a camera on the crate!) - I don't know why it stops, maybe wen they realise you ARE coming back?! But thankfully I can put her in the crate any time I need to leave her for a little while with no reaction, she just plays and sleeps.

She is 19 weeks and I haven't braved NO crate other than popping to the corner shop yet! then she sits by the stair gate in the hall and waits for me bless her haha!

tizwozliz · 12/10/2022 09:38

Codheads! :-). I grew up a bit further west

OP posts:
Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 09:52

Distinct lack of sausages round here. Think I've seen 3. Local Facebook sausage page is very quiet too!

I'm leaving pup alone for 10 mins while I run an errand. See how it goes!

Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 10:47

@tizwozliz ha ha! Codheads indeed! And proud😁

MrsWhites · 12/10/2022 13:37

We had a vets visit this morning to start flea and worm treatment. It went well overall, he’s put on weight and had his kennel cough vaccine too. He’s had L2 but vet said she wouldn’t be concerned enough to give him L4 now and will just give him it as his booster so will need one at 12 months and 1 at 13 months.

He’s had a bit of blood in a couple of poos but she didn’t seem concerned, said it’s probably just getting used to change and possibly his food so we’ve decided to change, he was on Harringtons puppy but we’ve switched to AVA, just putting 25% in his normal food and building up from there.

Have you all signed up for the VIP card at pets at home. We got £30 off the complete care plan and a free bag of AVA (can also get wainwrights) today alone for being a member so it’s definitely worth doing!

Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 13:56

@MrsWhites we signed up at pets at home and told the guy who worked there we were feeding ours Royal Canin dachshund puppy so wouldn't need the free food. He told us the wainwright's makes excellent treats- we now load the treat ball up with it .
Pleased the vets went OK. We're booked in Halloween for second jabs.

vestedinterests · 12/10/2022 13:57

@MrsWhites is the complete care plan the insurance or is it health check type thing? Puppy is in his 2nd week of free insurance but will need to sort something out shortly..

MrsWhites · 12/10/2022 14:05

@vestedinterests its a health care thing so it’s £15.50 a month for our pup (depends on size, he’s a medium breed so big cheaper for small or more expensive for large) but with the VIP discount it was only £13 a month. It covers flea and worn treatments, 5 nurse appointments a year (for things like anal glands, nail clipping etc), dental appointment, annual vaccinations and other things. Plus gives discount on things like vet consultation, dental treatment and neutering. The flea and worm treatment alone was £11 so seemed good value to me. You can get cheaper flea and worm but they tend to use over the counter types apparently and my vet described them as like being able to buy paracetamol over the counter but a doctor being able to prescribe something better.

We are signed up to many pets for insurance, people seemed to recommend them or pet plan but pet plan was £10 extra a month! I’ve got a referral code if you decide to go with many pets and you want to use it - we both get a £20 Amazon voucher if someone signs up via referral.

MrsWhites · 12/10/2022 14:07

@Rowgtfc72 you must be desperate to get out and about - another few weeks without walks to go.

We were lucky that our breeder got them done as soon as possible so we’ve been able to be out and about since Monday. Only managed short walks around the block yet because he doesn’t like the main road when we come out of our close!

tizwozliz · 12/10/2022 14:18

@vestedinterests It's worth getting your insurance sorted asap as normally you wouldn't be able to claim for a certain time period after the policy is taken out so you want the insurance to overlap with the 4weeks I presume came from breeder

OP posts:
Rowgtfc72 · 12/10/2022 14:20

He was jabbed at 6 weeks but none of our vets do the same jab and want him to be 10 weeks to give him a comparable one.
He came home in the harness and we've had that and the lead on him. He's all good to go- in Nov!

vestedinterests · 12/10/2022 14:55

Thank you @tizwozliz & @MrsWhites, he came with 5 weeks free insurance. I will get some quotes @MrsWhites this weekend and will get back to you on the referral code

MrsWhites · 12/10/2022 16:29

@Rowgtfc72 you’ve done well to get him used to the harness. I’m having a battle every time I put it on, he bites it as I’m putting it over this head.

Although that battle was easier than the one I’ve just had to have to towel dry him after my daughter decided to take him out in the rain!

CockapooMadness · 12/10/2022 19:02

Lincoln girl here, though hubby is from Grimsby and supports Mariners as does son even though he was born in Lincoln!

CockapooMadness · 12/10/2022 19:07

Was wondering what you get put on puppy's name tag? I think I read somewhere that you don't put their name on just your phone number?
