Oh my word corgis are cute!! I've never met one in real life - adorable.

Is anyone pup super quiet in the heat? Mine is 10.5 weeks and still sleeps a fair amount but has been ever so quiet today and sleepy. She has had some scrambled egg and kibble for breakfast as she shied away from the wet food/kibble mix we've usually offered. But she ate the egg mix fine and has 💩 and 💦 just soooo quiet!

Swear it's worse than bringing my babies hom 🤣

Yes! Our 11 week pup has basically slept all day today, only waking for meals! I assume it's the heat and hope we're not in for a night from hell as she wants to play all evening!

DH is in the garden with her now trying to wear her out before bedtime!

Nugg · 10/08/2022 05:27

@Newpuppyterror awww well she did perk up a bit in the evening and was disturbed @11 so I took her out then woke @430 so I did the same. She was desperate for toilet both times.

She's eaten well this morning and played and now asleep again so it must be the heat. Black pup in 30C plus isn't a happy pup!

She spent most of the day under the sofa in the fan firing line or snuggled on my lap under my desk as per photo! ❤️

GuyFawkesDay · 10/08/2022 20:24

Poor ball-less boy.

He started getting a bit humpy and other male dogs were antsy with him so figured it was as good a time as any at 15 months. I still feel bad about it but he seems pretty chipper despite clearly hating the cone. Suit arrives tomorrow but worried it'll be too hot?

Awww bless his little bewildered face!

Aria20 · 10/08/2022 20:59

Bless him. Mine hated the cone and was terrified of it - made the mistake of taking it off to get her in the crate and then she wouldn't let us put it back on lol. The suit was amazing though and so comfortable for her she was able to move as normal in it and wasn't hot as it was thin material.

GuyFawkesDay · 10/08/2022 21:12

Oh that's brilliant, I am concerned with it being so hot I am worried about him wearing the suit. Thank you @Aria20

Riverlee · 10/08/2022 21:26

@Vie8126

”Dp is up for work at 5am every day so he has already got into the habit of needing a wee at that time.”

I completely misread that as your husband needing the wee!

Riverlee · 10/08/2022 21:27

@tizwozliz Great photo. Your dogs fur is so shiney!

Vie8126 · 11/08/2022 06:12

@Riverlee he probably does too!

Vie8126 · 11/08/2022 06:15

Anyone have any good semi indestructible toy suggestions? Our pup is chewing through all of them! We got him a puppy kong but he isn’t interested in it!

The only thing our pup would consistently chew was a yaker. She wouldn't chew any toys or bought chews.

mrsfeatherbottom · 11/08/2022 06:36

Pup is 6 months old today and woke us up crying at 6 o'clock (not like her) - and she has diarrhoea - first time. She seems perky enough.

She was at the groomers yesterday and got clipped for the first time and they said she wasn't great and they had to give her loads of treats so I'm presuming that could well be the cause.

I presume we just feed her rice and chicken today and see how we go ...?

Aria20 · 11/08/2022 07:44

@mrsfeatherbottom yes probably all the treats! They also prob used "cheap" dog treats which can also cause upset tummy if they have too many. If it's just from the treats pup will prob be fine by tonight. I hear scrambled eggs is also good for upset tummy.

Vie8126 · 11/08/2022 07:57

@mrsfeatherbottom thank you off to investigate!

Autumn101 · 11/08/2022 08:43

@GuyFawkesDay I hope he isn’t feeling too sorry for himself at loosing his bits! It’s a dilemma when/if to get them done isn’t it??

@mrsfeatherbottom Scrambled egg is our go to for upset tums or when he’s been a bit under the weather with kennel cough. Lots of treats and maybe a bit of stress at being at the groomers could well be the cause. Mine hated it the first time he went but just went for the third time and was much better.

Really hot for us so early morning walks are back, I woke him up at 6.30 today to get out for a big run, that’ll be it for today I think as last night was still too warm at 9pm. He only has one mode when off the lead which is run constantly at full pelt so having to be careful

Autumn101 · 11/08/2022 08:45

@Vie8126 antlers have always been a favourite here 👍

mrsfeatherbottom · 11/08/2022 09:20

Interestingly, DH bumped into a friend this morning who has two dogs the same breed who coincidentally had been at the same groomers yesterday and one of his dogs had an upset stomach too last night - gurgly tummy and spent the night outside (his choice, he has a kennel). And he hates getting his feet trimmed so needs a fair bit of treats too.

tizwozliz · 11/08/2022 10:08

Sweet potato is our go to for a slightly upset stomach if they appear otherwise well. I just tend to mix it in with kibble and feed a smaller portion. Tummy buddy and probiotics if it continues.

We didn't manage to get out for a walk yesterday morning so ended up driving to a reservoir so she could have a swim in the evening. Was a pleasant 15 degrees this morning so a quick run round the woods, pre breakfast and coffee so both flagging by the end of it!

Now pup is perfecting her most mistreated dog in the world look, complete with dramatic sighs.

Hope pup is coping sans balls @GuyFawkesDay , at least the hot weather might keep him calm whilst he recovers, so good timing hopefully.

Hello, can I join too please.

We get our cocker pup this weekend. The children are very excited. We put the crate up and bought the food, bed and toys (and the rest). I’m excited, but terrified as well, I know what’s coming! This isn’t my first puppy rodeo. Hoping for a sleepy pup who wees in the garden and planning for a furry whirlwind who eats my slippers.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/08/2022 11:49

Sweet potato or pumpkin puree is my upset tum go to as well

FawkesPup is coping really well bless him. Not sleeping well as the cone is a pain so hoping the suit works better.

For chewing the thing mine loves most are; olive or coffee wood, benebone and knotted teatowels to shred!!!! Meaty treats we find paddywhack lasts quite well and doesn't upset tum.

mrsfeatherbottom · 11/08/2022 11:53

I tried her with sweet potato before when I had some spare but she wouldn't touch it. She's just been sleeping this morning but that's normal for her. Hopefully it was a one off.

Another chew idea - tea towel or face cloth, cut up and plaited, smeared with cream cheese and put in the freezer - kept our pup happy for a while. She also lives a treat treasure hunt - little bits of cheese or sausage hidden around in yoghurt pots, cardboard tubes etc and she had to find them all - it wipes her out everytime!

FuckingHateRats · 11/08/2022 13:18

These new pups are so cute!

Hot here too - we were out for a shaded walk at 9am - round a local pond with lots of new plants and corners to sniff. Lots of other dogs - for four encounters she listened to me and came with me as soon as I asked, but the last one she got too excited and bounded over, and then I had take her away on the lead.

Finding it hard to know what to do - do I put her on the lead all the time but then kind of lose the opportunity to practise, or do I stick with what I'm doing and have her off-lead most of the time and keep reinforcing the good with praise and treats, knowing (hoping?!??) the success rate will continue to get better?

She's 14wks, for context.

I'd pop her on a lead personally, so she doesn't have the opportunity to rehearse the behaviour. Otherwise she learns she can ignore you and have a nice play with another dog. Better to put her on the lead and then release to play if suitable playmates.

Our pup used to get put on a lead pretty much everytime we ever saw anybody. Mainly as she was pretty awful for jumping up and trying to kiss people on their face!

My pup is doing much better after his rather scary bout with digestive issues. He is now on a vet prescribed food that he absolutely loves. The vet said it's O.K. for him to stay on it long term, but to be honest I hope to reintroduce regular food because the prescription stuff is very expensive. Though if he has to have it, of course we'll continue. I'm just relieved he is feeling better.
