I think we're getting a puppy this weekend...

Going to meet him on Sunday. He's a 5 month old Cavalier King Charles spaniel called Harry. The breeder had planned to keep him for shows/breeding, but he doesn't quite might the standard (too big, apparently), so she's looking for a family home for him.

He looks absolutely adorable and I'm so excited. I won't lie, it's an added bonus that the breeder has done a lot of the hard work in getting him housetrained, etc, though I'm expecting to have to do a bit of work on this with a change of home.

Just hope he and the breeder like us as much as I'm sure we'll like him! 🥰🐶😍

another one here who is looking forward to Harry. I agree that the dog house board is definitely one of the more unfriendly boards on mumsnet; why so judgmental always! here is a pic of my little cavalier/ beagle aka beaglier. such a lovely boy

I don't think anyone has been judgemental.

A lot of posters on here work with dogs and see the unfortunate consequences when owners don't do their research and end up with dogs plagued with health and behavioural issues as a result of poor breeding.

i commented earlier too about their health because of the heartbreak of watching some go through terrible illness & dying early as friends rehomed several over the years. I just didn't want Greebols & especially her kids to have to go through that pain. Also, when they are that unwell a family home is not always the best place for them, so although the dog was already here & needed a home, an older couple without younger children in the house would have probably been a better option for the dog.

Nothing suggesting G was supporting puppy farming or wouldn't look after the dog!!

anyway, it would appear he's been health checked & is in his way home to be a very spoilt young man!!!😍

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/05/2022 17:03

@Fleetheart hes adorable!!! How old is he now?? I haven't knowingly seen a beaglier before! But you can definitely see both breeds in him.

Gaspingandleaping · 15/05/2022 17:06

From a greyhound owner I say congratulations!

I have had some great advice here over the years (about different dogs I've owned) and it's ok to filter out the sensible ones from the doom mongers!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/05/2022 17:12

Here is Harry - I've only managed to get a couple of photos without the DC in them, but I'll take more. You can see he's made himself at home! He seems like the most chilled out little dude.

What a handsome chap, and he looks very happy with his new home.

Floralnomad · 15/05/2022 17:27

He does look very sizeable with a lovely unsquashed face ! He’s certainly made himself comfortable.

XelaM · 15/05/2022 17:33

Awwww he looks adorable!! I'm so jealous 😍

axolotlfloof · 15/05/2022 17:52

He is gorgeous. Congratulations

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/05/2022 18:02

so gorgeous

70kid · 15/05/2022 18:03

ask the breeder to give you permission to call and speak to the vets
or ask the breeder in advance to order a print out of his medical record - even if you pay for it
it will reasure you that the breeder isn’t getting rid because of medical issues which will mean you won’t be covered for insurance

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/05/2022 18:08

I just love him already. He's so gorgeous. He does a full body wag, not just a tail wag.

Congratulations op, he's beautiful :) I'm not sure how anyone on MN gets a dog really with all the doom mongery!

I am the lucky owner of the MN holy grail a retired greyhound 😁 lovely as he is they're prone to osteocarcoma, can be unpredictable with small animals and other dogs and are incredibly lazy. So not sure how they seem to pass the MN test but a ccks from a decent breeder doesn't! Hope you're all very happy together :)

Fleetheart · 15/05/2022 18:20

lovely boy; encouraging that the cat is still in the room!!

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/05/2022 18:23

😍. He's absolutely gorgeous!!

he & the cat both look SO stressed 😂😂😂

LoveSpringDaffs · 15/05/2022 18:26

You can see she's decided he's too big to show & he's only 5 months!!!

I need cuddles!!

Sofasogood1 · 15/05/2022 18:59

He is gorgeous but yes he's a chunk! Looks more five years than five months. How much does he weigh op?

Hellocatshome · 15/05/2022 19:12

MardyOldGoth · 15/05/2022 19:15

I haven't weighed him yet, but when he got his second jabs in February he was already 4.1k

He's so cute, as is the cat! And yes, he does like quite large!
So glad you got him and I hope he gives you many years of happiness and fun :)
