Do you say Mum and Dad or say for instance your DH is in the kitchen would you say 'Go see Roger in the kitchen then, get a treat' sort of thing. Or something else altogether

Almost everyone I know says mummy and daddy when referring to themselves to their pets. My parents are nanny and grandad also lol. I only know 2 people who don't, out of all my friends they are probably the most straight laced/formal people I know Grin Even the vets/dog trainer say mum etc. I think it's sweet.

LadyLothbrook · 10/04/2022 22:22

Fucking hell. I've just nearly done it again and commented 'great thread' what the fuck is wrong with me. I'm high as a kite.

Mummy and daddy. (god the shame !)

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 10/04/2022 22:38

Mummy and daddy.
We're childfree but totally do NOT think our dog is our child, but what else do you call yourselves?!
"Rex, go to your master and ask him for dinner"!

OldWivesTale · 10/04/2022 22:59

Mama, dada, ,big bruv and big sis 😳

ivfbabymomma1 · 10/04/2022 23:04

Yep mummy / daddy and we refer to them as my DS's sisters

Hellhath · 10/04/2022 23:17

We are mummy and daddy.
My grown up children's dogs are my granddogs.

BarnacleNora · 11/04/2022 02:39

My parents' dogs it's always just been names if we refer to people at all, usually we'd just say 'over there' or 'come here'. The last set of dogs though my dad was 'the Master' and my mum was 'the Boss' but I don't think that's continued now that all offspring have moved out. My youngest son however is referred to as 'the bald puppy' because he is just so very very puppy like and one dog absolutely adores him and they are really quite alike in temperament and totally and utterly bonded for life-she came to us as a puppy just as he was starting to toddle around so they really have 'grown up' together. Because of this bond, when I visit without him she immediately will go to me and not leave my side, so I'm of course now known as the 'venerated mother of the bald puppy' and afforded the status and respect I am due, having birthed the most excellent bald puppy there ever was.

And there's me being weirded out over people using mum and dad for their pets 😂

MrsClarkandPercy · 11/04/2022 03:00

Mummy

Lorrymum · 11/04/2022 08:25

Mummy and Daddy.

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 11/04/2022 08:35

Our cat has got us - Mum, Dad, and 2 brothers Grin

Devastatedyetagain · 11/04/2022 08:51

Mummy and Daddy here but have just realised that I use this for all my animals! Have been lambing my sheep before now and said to them "don't worry, Mummy will sort it out!". My DD refers to the dog as her sister. I think we are all a bit mad in our family - the dog has playdates with her cousins and my sister refers to her as Aunty when talking to her own dog about ours!

OrlandointheWilderness · 11/04/2022 08:51

Names. I'm not their mother! I love them dearly but they are animals and tbh I find it disrespectful to them to treat them like quasi humans. But that's just me!
Cannot cope with furbaby 😂

BottleBrushTree · 11/04/2022 09:13

We all call ourselves “best human”, ie “best human” is home, do you want to go for a walk with “best human”.

AlwaysLatte · 11/04/2022 09:22

We use our names but occasionally one of us will say mum or dad by mistake!

Bananajuice · 11/04/2022 09:34

Mumma and dad here. She knows the children by their names but not brother and sister. The cats she knows as puss puss and they are sisters ( but not really) to each other but not to dog. All other family members go by what kids call them.. Grandad etc.

LaingsAcidTab · 11/04/2022 09:42

@MrsTerryPratchett

DD owns our dog (at 8 yo) so I'm grandma. She's Mummy and DH is daddy. Which yes, is a bit weird.
We have a cat (not a dog, I know!) and he is our son's - or rather our son is his! - and so we, too, are cat-grandparents. Our cat is now older than our son, though, so we too are flying in the face of The Order Of Things.
WhatATimeToBeAlive · 11/04/2022 09:45

Mum and Dad, and my mum is Gramma!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 11/04/2022 09:53

Mummy, Daddy and brother. Also my Mum has the grand-dogs

gogohm · 11/04/2022 11:01

Mama and papa, same as kids

RomansTheyGoTheHouse · 11/04/2022 13:03

Everyone is referred to by the relationship they would have if the dog was really my son Grin

I am Mum.
My mum is Nanny. She calls him her Grandpuppy.
My dad is Grumpy. He's too grumpy to call the dog anything but his name Grin
My brother is Your Uncle Michael.
My Dad's dog is Your Aunt Daisy
...and so on...

I appreciate the whole business is bonkers.

MardyOldGoth · 11/04/2022 13:05

I'm a dog auntie and she knows auntie means me! Grin

thisplaceisweird · 11/04/2022 13:09

Mummy and daddy, and she is 'my baby' but never my daughter - that feels a bit too far!

MardyOldGoth · 11/04/2022 13:13

@SpringHasEventuallySprung

If the dog is getting on my nerves, I tell him to go and see his father

😂😂. I do that too but ‘dad’ is a Disney dad and can see no wrong in his little princes ha ha

Our dogs ‘talk’ and have different personalities according to DH. I’ll quietly leave the thread now…

Yuh-huh, they have different personalities! Different voices too. Current one has a sweet little girly voice. Previous ones have been stern schoolmarm, Scooby Doo, and Noel Coward. nods seriously
Barneysma2 · 11/04/2022 13:59

Mummy and Daddy because that is what we are to him
