How do you refer to yourself when speaking to your dog?

Do you say Mum and Dad or say for instance your DH is in the kitchen would you say 'Go see Roger in the kitchen then, get a treat' sort of thing. Or something else altogether

DD owns our dog (at 8 yo) so I'm grandma. She's Mummy and DH is daddy. Which yes, is a bit weird.

This is brilliant. 😂😂😂

SisterRuth · 10/04/2022 18:29

It's ridiculous & I loathe people who say they have fur babies etc but...how do we speak to our cats? "Ask your daddy for treats; has mummy fed you today?" etc etc - silly old buggers.

Oh I don’t call them fur babies, just babies. Our children are children but our dogs are our babies. Obviously.

Mol1628 · 10/04/2022 18:35

Mamma and daddy. But this is only because we have children and that’s what we refer to ourselves as around the house. I don’t think the dog is our baby, nor are our children considered the dogs siblings Grin

fruitpastille · 10/04/2022 18:36

I only say Daddy if I want to really wind up dh. We don't really refer to ourselves at all when talking to the dog and she definitely isn't one of our children. It's more come here/this way/in your bed/good girl...

Happydays321 · 10/04/2022 18:37

Mummy and daddy, Ds's are brothers!

Datsandcogs · 10/04/2022 18:51

Nope, I am not the dogs’ Mummy nor the cat’s! I am me and I refer to myself as me or as my nickname.

pigsDOfly · 10/04/2022 19:45

There's only me and the dog and yes I refer to myself as 'mummy' when talking to her.

She most definitely is not my 'fur baby' though; cannot stand that expression.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2022 19:47

Mum.

We also have dad and brother and sister.

What else? Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2022 19:48

The dogs are not my fur babies, I loathe that.

They are my boys.

LadyLothbrook · 10/04/2022 20:32

We say mum and dad I was thinking about this today actually

Mrs and Master here - carrying on from my parents tradition with their dogs. And the dogs know the DC by their names

Joyfulflowers · 10/04/2022 20:46

I thought pet parents (Wink)who called themselves mummy & daddy were weird-turns out we're the weird ones!

Dh will occasionally refer to me as mummy but more to wind me up!

Funnily enough I think Joyfuldog knows our names as will go to that person if told to

🤣🤣🤣 So funny. It’s not the first time that’s happened on mumsnet.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

TheVolturi · 10/04/2022 20:48

Mummy!

PestorPeston · 10/04/2022 20:50

DD , DS and DH are all known to the dog by their childhood nick names. DD and DS are late twenties. When I pointed out that the dog did not know my name, DS trained her to find Mumsy

EleanorDeCleaner · 10/04/2022 20:51

Shostaklovhich · 10/04/2022 20:52

I’m his mummy, even though my teen DD’s call me mum. But he’s my little boy and always will be. I don’t care if anyone finds that weird, it’s not that I wish my DD’s were in fact DS’s, never wanted boys particularly, although would have loved them just the same as daughters.

SpringHasEventuallySprung · 10/04/2022 22:07

If the dog is getting on my nerves, I tell him to go and see his father

😂😂. I do that too but ‘dad’ is a Disney dad and can see no wrong in his little princes ha ha

Our dogs ‘talk’ and have different personalities according to DH. I’ll quietly leave the thread now…

I don’t feel so weird now after reading this. Our dogs also refer to our children as ‘the boys’ and ‘that little girl’, our children are in their late 20’s/early 30’s and they play along with it! The worst part is one of our dogs is a mountain rescue dog and the others are gun dogs 🙈.
